Everything from the menu screens to the game’s graphics has been revamped.

Game Chronicles
It’s rare that we see this level of sophisticated squad-based tactical gameplay in a console title.

GameZone
Certainly isn’t a major departure for the series but the visible improvements and perfect additions make for an entertaining romp that’s decent enough.

While I agree the game may not be as deep as other games that fit this style, it still is a fun game. It also has some intense action. It's how you decide to play it that will really decide if you get the full value the game has to offer.

IGN
It's rare that a game with average sound, graphics and an uncooperative control system can still be enjoyed for hours at a time anyway.

Game Informer
While it is admittedly superior to the original, fails to ascend to the top of the squad-based shooter class. [Nov 2003, p.169]

GameSpy
This game is simply a heck of a lot of fun to play with a friend.

If Desert Storm 2 has one flaw, it's that there are only ten maps and these usually channel the player down avenues rather than provide ample playgrounds for strategic experimentation. [Nov 2003, p.100]

TotalGames.net
As far as a war game goes, Conflict: Desert Storm II is fun and easy to play and it manages to be realistic without getting bogged down in its own intricacies. However, we did find the much vaunted AI to be flawed, which soured our overall enjoyment of the game.

Ultimately, this offers little over the first Desert Storm other than a new campaign and several engine tweaks but given the game's setting, there's precious little more you could ask of it. [Oct 2003, p.126]

Official Xbox Magazine
Mired by clumsy controls and spotty friendly AI, this sequel can't decide whether or not it wants to be a tactical realistic shooter or simply a run-and-gun arcade fragfest. [Nov 2003, p.114]

Game Over Online
This title would have been better if the design was more polished and the controls were more sophisticated.

Team Xbox
A lot of the Xbox crowd won’t be able to cope with the dumbed down AI or the hazy graphics in this title; those that will put up with it are the folk who realize that this is still one of the best military campaign fighters available on the Xbox and a really nice 4 person title.

Conflict: Desert Storm II isn't without problems, but it's not the worst squad-based game you'll ever play, and it's decidedly improved over last year's game.

If you enjoyed the original, the sequel is basically more of the same, just a little more refined.

Easily eclipsed by its competition. [Mar 2004, p.101]

EuroGamer
For those expecting massive advancements or a radical departure from the original, this will come as a disappointment. A more honest, realistic assessment would be to treat this as a mission pack, and for those who do just want more of the same, you'll come away a satisfied customer.

A very solid tactical action game that's hampered by some very demanding controls.

Electronic Gaming Monthly
Much of the disorder is unintentional. Like some half-assed high-school theater production, nothing works as it should and no one seems to be doing the right thing. [Dec 2003, p.202]

Guppy M. gave it a 10:
Play this game with a friend and you will understand why I have given this game full marks. Yes the controls are a little quirky & the AI limited bu tthe joy of setting up a precise crossfire with four solidiers is second to none. This game is an improvement graphically & practically to the first one & deserves a try out for any TPS fans.

Frank C. gave it a 10:
It's great.

Templar M. gave it an 8:
Eh. It's good, but limited. If the game were BIGGER - more story, more Delta 'cloak and dagger' nonsense - then it might not become so stale so quickly.

Adam C. gave it a 10:
It's fun with buddies, makes you think.

Thomas P. gave it an 8:
SoF2 Live game is only good...

Harry A. gave it a 9:
Great game. Not too difficult. Fun with friends.
