Game Informer
A tremendous game. [Feb 2003, p.105]
Gamer's Pulse
The movie license is fully exploited and used brilliantly, the production values are outstanding, there are cool unlockable features, and the fighting action is intense.

A very good game in its own right [and] the best movie-to-game conversion in recent memory.

It may have its flaws, but at the same time LOTR:TTT is a hundred times better than the rest of the regurgitated flotsam that constitutes licensed gaming as a whole.

It's hard to believe, but EA has finally done a great job in taking a movie license, converting it to a fun game, and then delivering it to all the major consoles roughly in time for the movie's actual release.

The Orc-hacking gameplay has you tapping more than just one button 90 times a minute. [Feb 2003, p.154]
GameSpot
Fans of the films will definitely want to pick this one up, but those who enjoy action games in general will also find a lot to like about it, in spite of the game's short length.

While the action is good, it's also incredibly short. There are only a dozen missions, plus an unlockable thirteenth, but you're looking at six to eight hours tops on this one. [Feb 2003, p.66]

You can’t beat the game’s presentation—the glorious visuals, real cast voice-overs, and Howard Shore score are so faithful to the film it’s frightening.

Everything in Two Towers - from the rich, lush environments to the lovingly rendered boss monsters - comes impressively close to matching its cinematic counterpart. [Feb/Mar 2003, p.76]
Team Xbox
There are big monsters, countless enemies to place the hurt on and an epic adventure to go along with it.

There are absolutely no differences between this, the GameCube, and the PlayStation 2 versions, aside from some miniscule tidying of the jagged polygons from the PS2 original.

I'm somewhat disappointed in this decent beat-em-up, which comes with far too many limitations and nagging annoyances to be worthy of quite such high praise that's been thrown around.

The only other real problem I have with the game is its length and lack of replay value. One trip through the game takes only a few hours. It can be beaten with a little determination in less than a day.

The only real knock against Two Towers is its limited replayability. [Feb 2003, p.68]

Essentially Gauntlet without the magic. You can't even play as Gandalf here.
TotalGames.net
The problem is that you have no control over where the camera is pointing so 50 percent of the time you’ll be aiming at something off the screen.

Mike H. gave it a6:
The game is alright. It isn't anything too spectacular. The graphics are fine. The music however was stellar. But the gameplay is where this title falls short. The combo and power attacks needed to be tweaked a bit. Because they have no real power when your player is surrounded by 10 goblins. Sure you can turtle up in these situations and block it out but there are some levels which you are timed so that strategy doesn't work. Also charged power attacks for the most part are useless since they can only be used when stationary and during this time you can't block either. The gameplay could have been executed a little better and with it alot of frusteration could have been saved. All in all, don't buy this game just burn it off your hard drive.
Jim S. gave it a 7:
Good battles. Too short. Rent it, don't buy it.
Jeff S. gave it a 10:
If you like the movie you will have a blast playing this game.
Boatdrinks gave it a 4:
Great graphics but not much else going for it. I absolutely hated the lack of camera control. You will frequently engage enemies that aren't even on the screen. It's also very short. I'm a big fan of the trilogy but this game was a huge let down. Don't waste your money buying it. If you are really interested in it, rent it and beat it before you have late fees due.
Rob A. gave it a 10:
GREAT GAME. Now I can actually look at this game with pride. Unlike my other rating for Medal of Honor: Frontline, which I gave a big fat 0, this is a game that you can play for hours, even the same level over and over again. There is great movie to game changes, great music, and great gameplay. I admit the game is a little short, but it is worth buying and playing. But if you have a bad day at school, just throw down your books, turn on your Xbox console, and place Lord of the Rings: The Two Towers game in. Soon you'll be impaling your weapon into another orc's flesh, with the choice of being either Gimli, Legolas, Aragorn, or my favorite, which is the special character, Ilsidor. Finally a game worth playing.
Flaming Swordsman gave it a 10:
I give it a 10, because of the easy controls the awesome video and sound and the gameplay is excellent tho I beat it in a few hours I still play it more than any other xbox game because its so damned addicting, cant wait until they release return of the king if the first 2 video games were this good.
Michael H. gave it an 8:
Not being able to control where you look is a HUGE drawback, and the AI characters will get in your way at times, and some levels seem near impossible....but it's still fun...
