ESRB Rating: RP (Rating Pending)

Release Date: June 25, 2004

Summary

(Also known as "Drive to Survive") Mashed will allow up to four players to duke it out in a gladiatorial type racing battle in which you "mash" your opponents into submission. Featuring a top down perspective, the game will give players access to a variety of weapons as they compete on any of the game's 13 diversified environments. In a unique twist to the combat-driving genre, defeated players will be able to launch missile and other attacks on their still competing components, which should provide an outstanding opportunity for revenge and create some bad blood between players! Xbox World Australia

Mashed is one of those rare games that are less about whiz-bang graphics and symphonic sound scores, and all about gameplay.

Computer and Video Games

Of course multiplayer mode is terrific in Mashed, mainly because it is such a laugh. It's more of an occasion if you make the shortcut, of which Mashed has many. You'll have more satisfaction taking out friends with the likes of twin-mounted cannons, flame-throwers and mines.

RewiredMind

Mashed scores low marks for originality, but goes straight to the top of the class for effort, execution and good old-fashioned fun. Addictive stuff.

Times Online

Mashed may not scoop plaudits for delivering the most spectacular crash sequences, the loudest explosions or the most accurate racetracks, but it does enough to provide an entertaining diversion from more serious sporting events in the real world.

Total Video Games

The essential dynamics, the controlling of these little pent up bullet power cars, is nothing short of thrilling although there is a number of little quirky problems that spoil what feels like the perfect isometric 3D experience.

3DAvenue

Mashed shows that all that is really needed to create a great non-simulation racing game is unique modes, arcade style physics and a mission like structure to keep players coming back for more.

Eurogamer

If only Supersonic had tweaked its camera system, delivered a few more tracks and considered online play, we might be talking about a must have game, as opposed to merely a highly recommended one.

Sydney Morning Herald

Pure racing fun at its most uncomplicated and addictive...The only flaw spoiling the party is a camera that often limits your view and causes unnecessary crashes and frustration.

Game Informer

Taps into something almost primal in appeal - blowing your friends' cars up is always fun. [May 2005, p.113]

GameSpot AU

If you've got plenty of players always on hand who want simple gameplay and lots of action, then Mashed is OK, but if you're predominantly a single-player gamer, then we'd suggest you look elsewhere.

And though Mashed is presenting itself as a multiplayer racer the computer AI (for those with no friends, not much cash and awful taste in games) is bizarre - sometimes pixel perfect and at others completely incompetent. Against friends it isn't much better, thanks to the dodgy handling and the sometimes unforeseen results of a minor clip.

Ciaran G. gave it a9:
If you have friends, then you will absolutely LOVE this game so much. I remember spending hours non-stop playing this game with friends. 4 player action is hilarious and great fun. This is the best offline multiplayer game I have ever played...even better than the Worms series and even better than Halo's offline multplayer. The only thing that let me down about this game is its one-player career mode. It's simple and gets far too hard so that you end up having to use cheats. But other than that, it can still be quite fun when playing it online.

Keijo K. gave it a10:
