Very fun, though still plays a lot like the first Spiderman game I played on PlayStation (which isn't a bad thing, but hoped for a somewhat different experience).

The camera angles do get frustrating after awhile, but the story, graphics, and extra features make it worthwhile.

Personally, I found myself enthralled with the video game, so much so that I pulled a couple of all-nighters going through the game over and over again and noticing new details each and every time.

Kudos to developer Treyarch for creating a seamless interface by which players can control a gravity-defying character without any noticeable restrictions or limitations.

I love the fact that every Spider-Man ability I could ever want has been included in this game.

Questionable camera controls and sometimes frustrating gameplay are all but forgiven in the context of the rest of the game’s charms.

The action is blistering, yet the camera moves like a slug and requires constant maintenance from the player. Don't let this discourage you, though. [June 2002, p.83]

The animation used in this game is some of the best we have seen in a video game in a long time. Spiderman flows beautifully through web-slings, crawling up walls, or performing his vicious kicks and punches.

If I have to pick a gripe it would be that the game wasn’t designed primarily for the Xbox then stripped down for other consoles, but the addition of 2 levels and an extra villain make it a worthwhile effort.

Good graphics, fun gameplay and acceptable control make the Xbox version of Spider-Man an excellent game for Spider-Man and 3D platform fans alike.

It can be hugely exciting and fun when you are outside flying through the city. However the inside levels feel confined and just lack the excitement of the excellently implemented exterior sections.

The game is missing a dose of innovation that could've helped it become stunning. [July 2002, p.77]
GameSpot
Despite the camera problems and some of the other issues, most players will probably enjoy playing what ultimately turns out to be a graphically superior version of the PlayStation and Dreamcast Spider-Man games, which faithfully captured the superhero's moves and antics to begin with.

The best looking has to be the Xbox version. Compared to the others, Spidey's world is very sharp, clean and crystal clear. Colors are very vibrant and while the textures aren't very detailed, they work just fine.

While the crisp graphics and bonus levels put the Xbox Spider-Man game slightly ahead of the PS2 and GameCube versions, indoor sequences are still problematic with an uncooperative camera that rarely stays behind the web-slinger as he flits across the room.

The camera itself functions as a de facto enemy -- and possibly the deadliest one of them all. [Summer 2002, p.82]

There are some things to unlock, but the game itself is fairly short.

The Xbox release is the best of the three console editions by far. [June 2002, p.59]

I found the combat lame, the camera annoying, and some levels frustrating. [July 2002, p.124]

We can’t help feeling that this needed an extra couple of months’ work to iron out the rough edges and implement some real strategy to the gameplay.

TreyArch has excelled itself, not just failing to get [the camera] right, but setting mind-blowing new standards in incomprehensibility. [Edge]

Uter gave it a 4:
The presentation is quite good, but the gameplay mechanics, graphics, and gameplay in general are very mediocre. The camera is frequently working against you too.
Madison S. gave it a 10:
The Spider-man game was cool I liked it. I think that it is a great game and that every body should play it.
Lazy Lewis gave it a 4:
First of all! Even if this game had come out on the N64 back in the day I would have given it a miss, second of all, if it had not come out at all I wouldn't have given a rats ass, third and last of all, if who ever designed this game will admit it really, really sucks then we can all stop lying to ourselves and let the true lameness of this game shine bright!
Andrew E. gave it a 0:
HOW THE %* does this game eat so much ass? How could it screw up the easiest premise to make a good game about? Flying around a damn city! Well I know how. BY MAKING THE GAME G$#@#% @#$$#@ING IMPOSSIBLE, AND PUTTING YOU INSIDE BUILDINGS! NOT ON TOP OF THEM!
Will B. gave it a 9:
I have this version and the Gamecube one. XBOX is so much sharper and has 2 more levels! Can I sell my awful gamecube to anyone? Much beter on Xbox.

I like this game better than the Dreamcast version because the graphics are wonderful. The older spiderman games seemed very cartoony and the controls weren't that good. This one offers very detailed graphics (right down to spidie's costume) and gives you more control and a bigger (not "so" linear) world to run around in. I also think this one has much more replay value than the others I have tried. I can see myself replaying a lot of the levels over and over again. (especially the aerial combat levels, very nicely done) The only things that keep this game from a 10 are that there are a few minor clipping issues here and there and that the camera can be a bit weird to get use to. However, after playing a few levels I had no issues with it. (using classic controller settings) Final note on this game, I see it as a keeper, and one that anyone wanting to be spiderman for a little while will enjoy.
