The pitch control (sounds like a flight sim, but when you are airborne, thats what it feels like) is a nice touch, and coupled with solid graphics and sterling sound, makes this a solid driving simulation.)

What I get out of this game is just a fun time. I have this thing about freedom in a game and I would be happy with just the free roam mode this title offers.

The thing that bothered me most was the way you can actually use the right stick on the controller to change the pitch of your truck in mid-air. I am sorry, but that is just way too much for me.

Does offer gameplay that lives up to its name, but should have taken cues from the Wide Open in the title and made the total package just a little bit bigger.

The game is exhausting because of the number of different races, but it doesnt take long to get bored with it.

I prefer a bit of depth and an element of skill to my racing titles, so its not for me.

You'll have a great time with this game but it just doesn't provide the technique and depth that you'll want out of your racer.

An adequate introduction to arcade racing on the Xbox, but its lack of gameplay depth, its punishing AI, and its conservative graphics keep it from attaining greatness.

Being average isn't what anyone aspires to be. [Dec 2001, p.109]
Team Xbox
Even if you bump into another car, you always seem to be the one who takes the force of the impact while the opponent carries on. Needless to say, I had a few words to scream each time this happened.

I couldn't play this game for long. The difficulty level, even on easy, with the A.I. can become so frustrating that you just want to put the game down.

Excellent physics and suspension, aggressive opponents and humongous and well-planned environments give a bit of shine to a game that is otherwise strictly last generation.

Ordinary. [Jan 2002]
GameShark
What it has in excellent concepts such as wide open areas that stretch as far as the eye can see, and all the name brand trucks and Hummers you can drive, it lacks in updated graphics and control precision.

Avoid at all costs, unless you are an offroad junkie that doesn't mind racing nondescript blocks around a nondescript track.

While Angel Studios does have something to build on here such as the cool Career progression and checkpoint-based races, they need to seriously consider what they are doing with the control and AI.

The Xbox version boasts improved controls over its PS2 counterpart, but the basic gameplay is just as dull. [Jan 2002, p.31]
All Game Guide
All of the problems the off-road games have experienced in the past are as visible in this version as a Hummer with its high beams on.

The game is just boring. [Jan 2002, p.90]

Joe B. gave it a10:
I played it and it was fun and really easy to beat. i had a great time playing it, and jason there is rockcrawling you just go to hawai and find the rocks right next to the out of bounds area right on the beach so i guess you need to explore games a little more.
Jason B. gave it a 6:
I would like to see a rockcrawling game or Jeep trailing with real obsticles. the only offroad game anyone has ever offered is racing! come on now, lets break the mold & try something different like the real world does. It seems like you guys haven`t picked up a four wheeler mag. in 20 yrs.
Chris P. gave it a 10:
This game is the best off road racing game ever in the begining it is boring but once you can afford all the cars it it just great and even all the different modes you can play like stadium and free roam.
