Summary

TigerProofing is a revolutionary course-altering system that allows players to modify course dynamics and create the most intensely competitive course imaginable. Alter tee-box length, width and patterns on fairways and greens, the depth of a greenside bunker, and even the color of the leaves on the trees, course moisture and the season which you play. Take on the legends of golf including Arnold Palmer, Jack Nicklaus, and Ben Hogan and become a legend yourself! EA SPORTS GameFace II: The industry-leading GameFace technology just got a whole lot deeper with more control and freedom to express your creative vision from a youthful prodigy to a grizzled old veteran. Eight new licensed courses and two new fantasy courses have been added for a total of 14 courses. New licensed courses for console only include Coeur d’Alene and Colonial Country Club. New licensed courses for both console and PC include, Sherwood Country Club, Fancourt Golf Club Estate and Troon North – Monument Course. Compete as or against 15 different PGA TOUR players including Tiger Woods, John Daly, Vijay Singh, Charles Howell III, Notah Begay III, and Jesper Parnevik, among others. Total Precision Swing: New putting and chipping systems allow for more control on the green or when you leave an approach shot short. In PGA TOUR Season Mode, play along with the 52-week PGA TOUR calendar of events for up to 10 seasons. Obtain sponsorships from real golf equipment manufacturers throughout your career and drive to surpass Tiger as number one on the overall money list. [EA Sports]

GameSpy

How exactly did they manage to make Tiger Woods PGA Tour 2005 a better game? By making it more varied, and thus, more replayable. By far, the biggest upgrade to the game is the new GameFace II system, which allows you to create a player who looks like just about anyone you could possibly imagine.

The courses are stunningly handsome and the golfing action and ball physics are true to life. The game has an almost limitless replay value.

Together with a deep career mode, eight new courses (14 total) and, of course, online gameplay, this latest Tiger Woods is as good as it gets. [Oct 2004, p.88]

I am a changed man after playing this game and I think anybody who hasn't bothered to play golf games before should really give this a try; you'll be surprised, I promise.

Expertly balanced, with tons of options to keep you improving either your golfer or your wardrobe or your course. [Nov 2004, p.80]

Gaming Age

Even though the overall look and presentation has not received a glowing amount of attention, it is what EA has done as far as tweaking the controls, A.I. and adding a monster amount of modes and options that will keep fans of the links playing for another year to come.

Hands down the most features-packed golf game ever, as well as the best golf game of the year.

IGN

A polished, yet expected, upgrade to last year's version. It's got some awesome new features that go a really long way -- like GameFace II and TigerProofing -- and there's just ton of other options.

TeamXbox

Sure, the game is more unrealistic than not, and it doesn’t look that pretty, but for outright console fun, the game is way up there. The combination of an endless supply of cool unlockables and semi-challenging gameplay is hard to discount, and makes it far easier to look past Tiger Woods PGA 2005’s flaws.

The kind of huge game that's easy to lose yourself in for weeks and months on end, sparkling with a ridiculous array of ways to play, great controls, and more unlockables than you can count. [Nov 2004, p.138]

Tiger Woods 2005 is a birdie to "2004's" eagle, but that doesn't change the fact that it's one of the best sports games out there.

A great game of golf with enough depth to please simulation fans while making things accessible to newcomers to the series. The game’s Game Face II feature is quite fun and will take up a few hours of players’ time on its own.

The inclusion of GameFace II, Tour Difficulty mode and Tiger Proofing provides plenty of player customization options that fans of the sport will enjoy. Plus, the inclusion of Tiger Vision allows people who've never picked up a club to feel like a golf pro.

The foliage resembles that found in a pop-up book, the mingames are growing old, and though "2004" revolutionized the game, 2005 is mostly spit and polish. [Nov 2004, p.138]

Like your local golf course. It’s still fun to go out there and tee off, but haven’t we played this 18 before?

The controls are easy to learn but hard to master. I say hard to master because you have to not only know the club you want to use for the placement of the ball, but you have a number of different types of swings to consider.

After last year's revolutionary success, this game - like "Madden" - is slowing down with age. [Oct 2004, p.125]

The game seems dead set on making new players comfortable--but this inadvertently sucks out a lot of the challenge.

There is now a level editor named Tiger Proofing where players can customise their own greens and add naff little gimmicks to impress their mates and try to convince themselves that it's not exactly the same game as they all bought last year.

The new features are generally welcomed but don’t change the fact that this is largely the same game you probably spent way too much time with last year.

It’s debatable whether or not this is worth buying if you own last year’s game…it comes down to how rich you are and how much you like golf. [Nov 2004, p.118]

Operation Sports

Though the engine itself doesn’t match some of the better games in the genre on both the Xbox and PC, it certainly plays a passable game of golf. It’s got an arcade flavor, but definitely delivers a fun game.

If there's any reason to buy 2005, it's for the 10 new courses, which look beautiful (as always) and offer enough challenge to keep most players whacking around for weeks. [Nov 2004, p.99]

If, however, you already own one of the previous versions, then the reasons to consider an upgrade are negligible.

Craig S. gave it a9:
Almost gave this title an 8, but there is sooo much to do and it is so addictive, I leaned to a 9. This is my first golf game for the XBOX and I have not been disappointed. At first I thought the play was too easy, but this game shimes when playing agains a group of friends or when moving up to higher levels in the individual ladder competitions. You can jump in for a short 10 minute skill game, or invest hours playing rounds of a tournament championship. Graphics are a little weak for an XBOX tiltle, but the game play is spot-on target.

Russ B. gave it a9:
I'm having trouble with my user profile, I'm maxed-out in my Attr, colum, But when I go to load my user profile the game just frezzes-up,I have turned it off and tried again with no luck, It Pisses me off because I have over 6-million to spend saved,But had everything...F...n thing..!

John W. gave it a 10:
Way too much fun. An amazing and addictive game. You should pick it up if you love golf and don't have the time to be out on the real course.

K J. gave it a 7:
Hmm, well this is as easy as it gets i didnt lose one match its quite funny. Graphics are mediocre and yeah im sick of tiger aswell and yes they cant do anymore to this game but better the graphics. definitely gets boring after a while also. I have noticed some weird glitches like when i was putting the ball looked like it kept hitting a wall and wouldnt go any further then 10cm until my shots exceeded.

Buried-In-The-Box gave it a 7:
Is anyone else tired of seeing the same athlete on the cover of this franchise year after year? No other sports game uses the same cover guy over and over, why here? You know, there are other great golfers in the world besides Tiger. Some may be even better. He's way overrated and isn't on top of his game like he once was or as good as some others are now. Needs to be called "PGA Tour", whatever year it is, and "featuring" anyone different. Same game as last year with player creation tweaks. This series has finally come to an end. There is no more that can be done here except better graphics on better hardware or at least use the XBOX's hardware instead of porting over the dead-ass PS2 visuals. What is it about EA that makes them hate MS so much that they screw us every year and we either get the worst looking of all multiplatform titles or ours doesn't look any better.? Once again EA is selling the XBOX short with a rehash of an old game with boring PS2 visuals and same old boring Tiger.

Andrew M. gave it a 9:
Sensational golf game with heaps of different play modes...a great improvement on an already fine series of games! One issue with xbox, I get a lock up after completing one legend senario and after about 1/2 hr of gameplay I lose commentry and music...this is really wierd...anyone else with this problem?

D.C. gave it a 10:
Great game, Tiger proofing is so cool.
