GameSpot
Despite some difficulty spikes, Are You Smarter Than a 5th Grader? is a welcome addition to the booming collection of Xbox 360 trivia games.

Though it ultimately fails, it doesn't seem as if this was a game just thrown together. Work was put into 5th Grader, but it falls short of other quiz games on Xbox 360. If you're truly smarter than a fith grader, you'll pass on this game.

If you and/or your kid love the show enough to tolerate all that…you should still stick with the infinitely superior XBLA game Wits & Wagers.

Well-made and well-presented, but there's not nearly 1,200 points worth of game in there. [Jan 2009, p.104]

Dread L. gave it a5:
Jeff Foxworthy looks like a zombie with his dead, lifeless (non-animated) eyes. They also overuse the theme song to the point of being really creepy. The questions are decent, I'll give them that.
Joshua C. gave it a9:
Like many, I laughed at the 1200 MS points price ($15.00). Knowing that "conversion rate" is the only metric that Microsoft cares about with Live Arcade games, I downloaded the trial version. I was completely prepared to ridicule and never pay for this one. Imagine my surprise in finding that this games... Is great! The wife and kids love it, it's an entertaining quiz game. For a $15 download, it's wonderful. I'd have given it a 10, if not for overuse of the annoying show them song. At the title screen is fine, but we do NOT need it after every question. We just don't. The voice acting from Jeff Foxworthy is fine. You can tell it's been heavily compressed, but it's decent enough. He doesn't sound bored, which is always a plus. Some of the questions are easy, some are hard. Seems to be a good balance. Graphics are actually better than expected for a DLC game of it's size. Seriously, we'd be paying more for this on a disc (such as the wii version). Give us some cheap DLC questions, and this will be a party game that gives for a long time.
