In the distant future, massive urban development and pollution have critically damaged the planet. There is widespread fear that the end of the world is approaching. The League corporations, a military superpower, control the planet's infrastructure and have forced most of the world's population to live in huge aerial communities, called Cradles, to avoid the contamination. The ORCA, a rebel resistance still residing on the surface of the polluted planet, have amassed a formidable arsenal and are mobilizing to attack The League's bases to put an end to their iron grip on the planet. As a mercenary armed with cutting-edge military robot technology, choose your side and defeat the other factions by harnessing the power of the deadliest and most gigantic weapons ever created by mankind. For the first time in the series, cut your way inside colossal mobile battle stations and destroy them from their very core. Identify and exploit the weaknesses of 10 uniquely designed GIANT mobile battle stations to defeat them. Cooperate online with a friend in more than 30 missions or face up to 7 other players online in more than 80 different battlefields. Find the right combination of weapons and armor that will help you take down colossal enemies. With more than 130 new parts and 400 parts total, enhance your mech to take on increasingly deadlier mobile battle stations. Create the perfect mech design to defeat a powerful enemy and share it with your friends online. [Ubisoft]

If you think mech customization and boost-filled battles sound like your cup of tea, Armored Core does deliver on those parts.

Armored Core: For Answer has it hits and misses.

Throughout the campaign, several missions require you to tackle mobile “Arms Forts”. These are tremendously large battle platforms, bristling with heavy artillery, missile racks, and other surprises.

Worth Playing
Armored Core for Answer fixes a lot of the problems that existed in Armored Core 4. Significantly more fun missions, graphical improvements, a fantastic sense of scale, and an enormous amount of customization really help the title. However, the impossible-to-understand story detracts value from the single-player experience, so the only reason for you to return is to build your mech, which is something that's going to overwhelm most players.

Armored Core for Answer will completely satisfy any fans of the series thus far, and will even do the job for action or mech fans in general. Newcomers to the mech genre might find themselves lost in the customization options and level of difficulty presented.

The latest Armored Core makes up for the series' lack of progress by simply being fun to play.

Armored Core is best enjoyed with other enthusiasts, and For Answer has an impressive array of online options. [Sept 2008, p.88]

I appreciate the realization of scale in the game, and the overall fun you get out of just blowing things away with the different weapons you can toy around with. I'm not sure if there's been enough improvements here to appease fans, but as a player that hasn't been immersed in the Armored Core universe for a bit, I had a pretty good time.

The cut scenes are gorgeous, the mech design is cool, the overall art style is kind of awesome… but the game itself isn’t really worth it.

Cheat Code Central
What's so strange about For Answer is its trading of extensive customization for actual gameplay. Sure, you can build the ultimate mech, customizing it to your heart's content, yet when you actually play the game, you realize its shortcomings.

The game does provide a few improvements, bringing revised flight controls and new cooperative mission modes, but For Answer lacks what a great series needs in order to stay relevant: progress.

Aaron gave it a9:
The greatest way to make up for the shortcomings of a game is for it to suck you in to the experience. Even if you think the story is difficult to follow--I really don't see where that comes from--the insane scale of the game cannot be ignored. At times, you truly feel like a god of destruction; it's almost frightening to imagine the power at your finger tips. No game I've played delivers this experience so flawlessly.

John gave it a10:
Insanely fun, possibly the best entry in the series. Huge selection of parts and weapons to choose from you can get lost in for hours.

Erik B. gave it a2:
This game is not much of an improvement from the last. Awful mech game. Mech Warrior what armored core is trying to be.

Emily G. gave it an8:
Great online gameplay. All my friends are really enjoying themselves as am I. This is a great game.

Caroline B. gave it a9:
The graphics are basic... pretty mediocre. Except for the story graphics: those are actually very realistic. But the gameplay graphics aren't so great. Other than that, the futuristic, almost post-apocalyptic nature of the background of the game is to me very riveting.

Albert B. gave it a10:
It would be a lie to say the game falls short of expectations. i can't believe how much customization is possible! FOR ANSWER is highly advanced for an armor core game, but even compared to the last AC title this one is ahead of its time.

Dave S. gave it a9:
There's freaking CO-OP in this game. I usually think of FPS, the generic kind of gameplay we've all grown tired of, as co-op games. But Armored Core! That, and the story, are my two favorite aspects of the game right now. Of course there are almost RPG elements, such as the music and the nature of epicness... you should just play it yourself to see what it's like.
