Publisher: Electronic Arts

Developer: EA Montreal

Genre(s): Action, First-Person Shooter

Players: 2

ESRB Rating: M (Mature)

Release Date: March 4, 2008

Summary

Army of Two throws gamers into hot spots ripped from current day headlines where they utilize unique TWO man strategies and tactics while seamlessly transitioning between playing with intelligent Partner AI (PAI) and a live player. When one man is not enough, it takes an army of two to fight through war, political turmoil and a conspiracy so vast it threatens the entire world. This is EA's first original title for the next-gen systems. Army of Two is the first game to put players inside tactical warfare involving Private Military Corporations. EA has built this game with co-operative TWO man gameplay as the centerpiece of the experience. Whether you’re playing with PAI or a friend, it's about the TWO man missions, TWO man strategies and the TWO man advantage that really sets this game apart. [Electronic Arts]

Pelit (Finland)

Army of Two is a very good team shoot 'em up. It's reasonably realistic and the enemies are quite intelligent. Many weak-looking objects provide perfect cover, which is a bit odd. Army of Two is quite short, too. [March 2008]

Totally360

The cooperative system that EA have put in place works, and looks superb in action. Add to that, the fact that the enemy AI is intelligent and is not just going to roll over and die, and the fact that you can spend just as much time modifying weapons as you can do playing the game.

Play.tm

A solid title that delivers a satisfying third-person shooter experience successfully drawing the player into its action via meaty weapon selection and customisation, an intriguingly adult and believable storyline, extremely pretty in-game and pre-rendered graphics and animation, appealing and humorous character camaraderie, immersive if not somewhat flawed partner A.I and Aggro systems, and a thoroughly decent level of challenge.

If you’re looking for a new co-op shooter for you and a friend to blast through again and again and high five each other every time you get a sweet kill then the $60.00 is definitely worth the tag price of Army of Two. Army of Two does everything right in the multiplayer aspect of the game, but somehow lacks in single player play.

Army of Two’s solo mission doesn’t match the firepower of its two-person co-op play, either in the offline game or online. But it does have plenty enough gun-filled action to satiate any violence-fans fill, and if the online gameplay is functionally free of lag or connectivity issues, Army of Two is one of the better recently released titles in regards to Xbox Live gaming.

John P gave it an8:
Army of Two was a pretty fun game. The cooperative mode is something I have yet to see surpassed by anything outside of the Gears of War series and the multiplayer mode is addicting. My favorite part of the gun is the various guns and the add-ons you can buy for them, giving the replay value a few kicks up when wanting the powerful sniper rifle or the P-90. Single player can be rather tedious when you're injured or when trying to get your team mate to listen to your commands, but if you're good enough, you can easily compensate for your team's AI faults.

William M. gave it a2:
Literally beat it in a single afternoon. The games characters are unlikable, the plot sucked and the entire experience was very wash and repeat. There are no real boss battles. The back to back crappy action movie style segments just drove yet a nail into this ready to return no reply value coffin. The game sucks. Period. In addition there is a serious lack of variety in the weaponry department. Also the larger older man sounded, talked and acted like a cliché’ black thinking Ox type soldier, yet was white for some unknown reason, like they changed his character graphic at the last minute. The racial clichés were just awe inspiring and yeah this is a redneck’s wet dream come true. I hate how the Nerds have changed in modern society from being thinkers, readers and gamers. To just mindless frothing at the mouth violence driven anti-sex W.O.W. playing morons and further more “geek” is a term for a unintelligent nerd who is A-sexual. Nerd is a smart person who is focused on self improvement, gathering knowledge and a high sex drive. How this definition has change boggles my mind. They made popular movies based on this very concept. The gaming culture now makes me sick. Long live Sega and the Kingdoms of Atari, may they rest in peace. Yes that was a bit of a rant, but if I run into one more “nerd” that thinks Soylent Green originated on Futurerama or doesn’t know Monster Madness is a tribute game to Zombies Ate My Neighbors I’m going to start smacking people… It honestly pisses me off to be around such morons. How can this have come to be? Honestly, I’m a gamer with a real life, I’ve had girlfriends, I work out 2 hours a day and read real books, not some Anita Blake vampire wank or watch Buffy and think Josh Weyden is “so original” Dr. Horrible is a good formula movie. It was written with the exact same plot points as the movie Bucket of Blood or the original musical version of Little Shop of Horrors. It’s not “revolutionary” it’s not going in a daring “new direction”, it’s just the same old film done very well with very little money. Sorry to everyone, but I went to P.A.X. and I’ve been hanging out with the “new generation” gaming crowd and as old as I am the devolution of my culture is sickening me to no end. I blame marketing, it’s become like any other peer group in that the marketers are making it “cool” and mainstream and as a result everything good and decent about it is being striped away by the uneducated morons. Games are like now a day like films and are playing to the lowest denominators. All you need is some explosions and hurrahs and you got yourself a winning combination (aka Michael Bay film). This game sucks. I beat it in about 8 hours. It adds nothing new and what it presents is far from perfect. It’s best to just leave this one on the shelf.

Ryan M. gave it an8:
I played this game only in co-op mode, so I can't speak for the partner AI. However, with a human teammate this game is pretty fun. The aiming is horrible and the hit detection is weak, but those are the only real complaints I have. The cover system is pretty nice, as is the revive system, and the weapon upgrades are pretty cool. I played through it both on normal and professional, and I don't usually play through games more than once. Also, there are two free campaign missions released as DLC bringing the mission total to 8. I found this game to be of pretty good length for a shooter, maybe even a little long, but I tend to like my shooters a little shorter than most people (I thought Bioshock was too long). All in all, a solid, very fun game with a teammate. Butting heads and giving out kidney punches to your teammate never gets old and neither does giving high fives and air guitaring with them. Oh, and it's the best teabagging/humping game out there. A solid 8/10 strictly because of the co-op. Without that I'd probably rate it a 6/10 or so.

Brent B. gave it a10:
Its a cool game. I hope that 3rd person shooters are the way of the future. Like gears of war that was a good game to.

Chris W. gave it a10:
Best Damn Video game I played. it just passed up halo...can`t wait for the sequel. There going to be a sequel right!.

M W gave it an8:
Great Game, great idea and great graphics! This is a great title and the single player does stand well on it's own (despite more focus on this aspect in the future). Easily recommended and a great new property to be excited about!

Dan F. gave it a9:
This is an excellent co-op game with an excellent storyline and graphics as well as tight customization. overall this is a shining example of good original fun.
