Summary
The game represents the first time fans will be able to experience The Beatles’ musical career for themselves. From the early touring days in 1963 Liverpool to the immortal, final performance on the Apple Corps rooftop, fans can follow in the band’s footsteps as they traverse the globe during the height of Beatlemania. Adding to the experience is the introduction of three-part vocal harmonies to game play, allowing gamers to revel in the unparalleled vocal stylings of the Fab Four. Beatles fans will also be thrilled to hear previously unreleased authentic voice recordings from John, Paul, George and Ringo chatting between takes during studio sessions recorded at Abbey Road more than four decades ago. The game begins during the band's earliest days at The Cavern Club in Liverpool, England. Gamers then travel across the Atlantic to experience the band's unforgettable 1964 performance on The Ed Sullivan Show, the sold-out concert at New York’s Shea Stadium in 1965, and conclude at The Beatles’ memorable concert at Budokan in Tokyo, Japan in 1966. The Beatles' studio years come to life in legendary Studio 2 at Abbey Road Studios. Highlighting the studio years are inspired artistic visual expressions known as Dreamscapes, intended to transport players to imaginative environments that capture the essence of The Beatles’ genre-busting musical and fashion transformations during their later years. The game follows The Beatles to 1969 where story mode culminates with their final performance on the rooftop of the Apple Corps Headquarters. The Beatles: Rock Band offers a new set of hardware representing the instruments made famous by John, Paul, George and Ringo. Featured in the set are the Rickenbacker 325 and Gretsch Duo Jet guitars - hailed as two of the celebrated, signature instruments played by John Lennon and George Harrison throughout their careers. Also included is a Höfner bass controller - a large-scale version of the bass famously used by Sir Paul McCartney. Rounding out the set is a Ringo Starr inspired, Ludwig-branded Rock Band 2 drum set with a classic pearl finish and vintage remake of a Beatles kick drum head. [MTV Games]

The Beatles: Rock Band sets a new standard for how band-focused music games should be executed, one that will be very difficult to match. Beyond all the stylistic flairs and the fan-service touches, this is just an incredibly fun, incredibly accessible bunch of music, with very little filler in its track listing.

There’s only one truly disappointing aspect to The Beatles: Rock Band: Future games made around your favorite band probably won’t be half as good.

The Beatles: Rock Band does one thing extremely well: it brings The Beatles’ music to a very strong platform (the Rock Band platform) resulting in a game that is undeniably fun to play.

In terms of actual gameplay, Beatles: Rock Band does nothing revolutionary. Where the revolution occurs, instead, is in the game's presentation, which brings new life -- and a new type of life -- to the static genre.

If games like Pong and Super Mario Bros. managed to pique the interest of mom and dad to play with their kids in the living room, there’s no doubt that The Beatles: Rock Band will make the rest of the family join in and have a great time. Don’t get me wrong, the Guitar Hero and Rock Band games have done great things but I think The Beatles: Rock Band is the ultimate multi-generation gathering videogame.

There is no doubt that it is on the short side, and even though plenty of downloadable content is on the way, I really think there should have been more songs on the disc. Also, despite the additions and changes, this isn’t quite the “built from the ground up” gaming experience that was originally described. The Beatles: Rock Band is exactly what the title says: Rock Band infused by the music of The Beatles. In the end, it is a terrific game that Beatles fans, regardless of gaming experience, will want to play ceaselessly.

The Beatles Rockband is the first rhythm game who'll have the chance to finally take over Karaokes from pubs and living rooms all over the world. No more impossible solos or songs that only Bruce Dickinson or Robert Plant can sing, but only a lot of fun for whomever will feel like grabbing a guitar or a microphone and sing songs almost everybody learned to love over the years. It's only about Beatles and it's a bit short, but if you get in the mood, it will last forever.

If you are more a fan of music titles than the Fab Four, then you might be disappointed in the shorter songs and roughly half the songs you’d normally expect for the price. Any way you slice it though, this is good music that folks from almost any generation can relate to - I can’t think of a single band that has ever pulled that off, or ever will again.

It provides a feeling of Beatlemania for everyone who weren’t around when The Fabulous Four were so popular. James H gave it a9:
An excellent tribute to an influential band. A player's appreciation of the Beatles definitely affects how much he or she will enjoy the game, but quality of music aside, it is more visually engaging than any other music game yet produced. As a fan of the music, the only criticism I can level at the game is that it has a relatively short setlist, which is missing a few classics.
Dean A gave it a9:
A wonderful and compelling presentation. Obviously any Beatles fan will find the replay value on this game to be very high. Unfortunately, I think it will be difficult for any other Rock Band game devoted to one band to be able to live up to the level of this title. For the person that claims 75% constitutes a B grade: I must be old, but I came from a time when anything below 70% was an F. I don't feel bad for any students who are encouraged to perform at a higher level- I feel bad for those that can't get a decent education because the bar is set too low.
Caleb H gave it a9:
If you love The Beatles, this is a great way to get into the phenomenon that is Rock Band. For everyone else, The Beatles: Rock Band is a showcase of all the innovations that will be made to future titles. If you ask me, the genius that is vocal harmonies is here to stay. My only gripe with this game is the lack of extra content minus downloadable songs. I expect a new era of Beatlemania on the way!
John S gave it a9:
Amazing! Capturing the magic that was the beatles in every aspect, a thoroughly enjoyable game that you can tell was a labour of love. If your a fan, which half the world already is... DON'T MISS THIS! And if your not a fan, prepare to be converted, I dare you to try and not smile while playing along to these songs.
Ian H gave it a9:
I'm a gamer and a musician, and for a while I'd had a chip on my shoulder about music games. I'd had a go at at GH at a friends, and wasn't too impressed, however when I saw the previews for Beatles rock band, and It looked so much fun I couldn't resist, so I did a bit of research. The in game footage and track listing looked really good, and all the feedback I got about RB was positive, so I plunged in at the deep end and got the full pack with bass, drums and mic, and I can honestly say I'm very impressed. Its not like playing a real instrument in one sense as holding a button down is different to holding a string down, or playing a chord, or keeping a beat, however these games do encourage hand and brain co-ordination coupled with rhythm and thats the most important starting point for a good musician. The different levels of difficulty are good, they are challenging for guitar, bass and drums, I haven't done anything with the vocals yet, but am looking forward to exploring that. The learning curve is good, you can make it challenging if you want to develop your playing skills, or if you want to drink a case of beer and just sing along mashing buttons you can do that too, so its good fun in both situations, and I like that. The quality of the game overall is excellent, the Beatles were one of the most important bands of last century, and this game is really really good fun and a fitting tribute to the fab 4. The track mix is good, some classics and also some I was less familiar with, but I enjoyed it all. What I liked was that there was an update avaliable track wise almost instantly. Now you could argue, why wasn't it put in the game, well I don't know, however it was really cheap. This title is going to be massive, and its nice to see people giving us content without asking us to shell out loads for expansions, halo 3 and Gears of war 2 come to mind, grr :\ Anyway this game really is a class act.
Marco D. gave it a10:
I felt propelled to write this since Evan B. clearly does not know what he is talking about. If you're a teacher and you believe a 85% is a "B", I feel sorry for your students. 75% is a "B"! 80% is an "A-"! 85% is an "A" 90% is an "A+".
Darren K gave it a10:
So amazing! This game not only marks a huge improvement in the aesthetics of music games, but the level of immersion in the music seems to have been raised as well. The vocal detection has been improved from RB2 and the addition of the vocal harmonies (and the related achievements) breathes new life into my personal least favorite instrument from the previous rock bands. This game more than any other makes me want to get my friends together and have a "band practice" and work on those harmonies! This takes social gaming to another level! Can't wait for all the DLC!!!
