Summary

Blazing Angels 2: Secret Missions shows World War II from a different perspective – that of an elite pilot who is part of a secret team. In the game, the player undertakes some of the most dangerous missions in exotic locations all over the globe. As an elite pilot, the player goes from one great adventure to another, while battling the most lethal experimental weapons of the Third Reich. The squad's mission is to prevent the ultimate weapon from being built. To help players in this quest, they have at their disposal an assortment of highly experimental aircraft and weaponry. Secret Missions comes straight out of the history books of World War II's most top secret projects. Fly above hills and mountains, navigate through treacherous mountain passes and dogfight in the clouds with enemies. Take part in large-scale battles through various conditions: darkness, rain, snow, and air turbulence. Secret Missions takes players around the world, from Paris, Rome and Moscow to exotic locations like Rangoon and Cairo and the highest mountain ranges of the Himalayas. Each mission brings its own surprises, twists and unique challenges. Players have access to some of the most advanced and unusual aircraft and weapons of WWII, as well as access to a huge assortment of weapons, including high-velocity cannons and early guided missiles. Multiplayer features free-for-all, co-op and squad-based play, including the brand new Capture the Flag and Epic Battle modes, the latter pitting two teams of players against each other in a large-scale battle with conquerable bases and objectives that can be destroyed in order to gain the upper hand on the opponent. IC-Games

Many will mock Blazing Angels 2 for its repetitive nature and although it’s true to a certain extent the game is still a marked improvement from the first encounter. Flight sim aficionados will probably do well looking elsewhere for their thrills, but pick up and play pilots will find a pretty enjoyable romp in the skies awaiting them if they give this title a chance.

Blazing Angels 2 is a marked improvement over its predecessor, and a game that arcade flight gamers will enjoy.

Multiplayer has been improved upon as well, with full four-player co-op throughout the entire campaign and a huge number of online dogfighting options. And again, it all works beautifully because the fundamentals of the game are so simple and solid.

Official Xbox Magazine

It may not share the same rarified air as Microsoft's genre-leading "Crimson Skies", but Blazing Angels 2 elevates the franchise a helluva lot closer. [Dec 2007, p.66]

GameTrailers

Ubisoft Romania has done a great job in making a sequel that one-ups its predecessor in every way, from innovative gameplay in a by-the-books-genre, to a full-bodied multiplayer experience.

Solid gameplay, stunning aerial effects, but nothing that will have you celebrating. [Oct 2007, p.82]

Team Xbox

While Blazing Angels 2: Secret Missions of WWIIisn’t a flying revolution, it is a flying game on a system which is short on them, and one which should appeal to a larger demographic due to the historical license that Ubisoft exercised in its creation.

Pelit (Finland)

Blazing Angels 2: Secret Missions has very little to do with war or flying but it's pretty fun to play and nice to watch. And that's enough for me. [Oct 2007]

Game Informer

Boasting fantastic locales from Cairo to the Himalayas and strange experimental fighters never seen in the history books, the titular secret missions in question are pretty unbelievable. The exaggerated weapons and battles are actually the most exciting and engrossing aspect of the title; much of Blazing Angels 2 veers heavily into frustration and obfuscation.

Game Over Online

Though it falls well short of greatness it does manage to be pretty good, and the multitude of upgrades make for a huge improvement over the original.

Ubisoft has changed the formula and from my standpoint, it worked. It definitely held my interest a lot longer than the first Blazing Angels ever did.

Worth Playing

If you enjoy flight games, can still stomach WWII-themed titles and are willing to step away from the single-player campaign when the later missions make you start grinding the enamel off your molars — better yet, if you'll forego the campaign mode altogether — Blazing Angels 2: Secret Missions of WWII is well worth your time for a different sort of deeper, involved multiplayer flight game.

Xbox World Australia

Better looking, better sounding, and better gameplay should be a winner in anyone's book, so if you liked Blazing Angels but hoped for more, then your prayers have been answered. It isn't perfect, but getting to fly futuristic jets and take down giant Nazi zeppelins goes a long way to balancing out the problems!

VideoGamer

If you're looking for a complex, challenging flying game then you're better off spending your cash elsewhere, but if you fancy some light-hearted arcade action and know you'll make use of the multiplayer mode, or just have some leftover enthusiasm for WWII games, this could be the one for you.

If you’ve not played a flying game before and have the impression that they are mind numbingly boring with added beeping then perhaps the arcade antics of Blazing Angels 2 could sway you.

This is by no means a must-have title, but one that can take care of a boring weekend ahead and still have room to venture back through either for achievements or some risky, gun-toting action.

So if it’s short on believability and plain fairness, what does Blazing Angels 2 have to offer? In a word: variety. [Oct 2007, p.110]

Official Xbox Magazine UK

Ultimately, the game lacks any real impact, feeling a bit like a gutted "Rogue Leader," but from moment to moment you'll find yourself having a great time. [Oct 2007, p.92]
