Summary
[Xbox Live Arcade] Experience the excitement of the world's hottest number game sensation. Buku Sudoku takes the pen-and-paper puzzler high-tech with HD graphics, helpful tutorials, single- and multiplayer game modes, multiple grid sizes, and the option to display hints, highlight errors, undo moves, and even solve puzzles. 1,200 puzzles give you plenty of opportunity to challenge your own brain, play cooperatively with friends, race head-to-head to see who can complete a board first, or compete in the new battle mode, where completing a line, row, or square will remove numbers from your opponent's board. It's Sudoku however you like to play it. [Merscom]

This version of Sudoku is simply amazing, fun and for the novice to expert player a worthwhile and cheap way to play the game.

Mathphobes will still probably view Buku Soduku like a homework assignment, but if you're looking for a fun way to exercise your brain this game is for you.

A huge game with plenty of puzzles to keep you going. Fans of Sudoku will enjoy, otherwise try before you buy.

XBLA Sudoku is well implemented, well presented and is enhanced considerably by being able to compete online against other Xbox Live players.

Generously stocked with puzzles and options, and with something to offer for players of all skill levels, Buku Sudoku is actually one of the strongest puzzle packages on Live Arcade and - somewhat to my surprise - comes highly recommended.

Whether you're a Sudoku vet looking for a new challenge or a newbie wondering what all the fuss is about, Buku Sudoku does a fine job of bringing the phenomenon to a digital audience. Its only real shortcoming is that in some cases, it is content to be complacent, rather than moving the genre forward.

It shines as a fun but pricey distraction. [May 2008, p.76]

Ultimately, this is a game for fans or for anyone looking for a different sort of puzzle game from the Xbox Live Arcade.

Just like the graphics and musical score and even XBLA's Word Puzzle before it, players will either take it or leave it.

It's tough to justify recommending a ten dollar purchase for Buku Sudoku when there are pen and paper alternatives out there that are both cheap and portable.

All told, if you're a casual gamer and looking for something more than what a pencil and notepad can provide, Buku Sudoku is something that is worth killing some time with.

It's a solid attempt that is difficult to fault, but at the end of the day this game will only appeal to real Sudoku fans or people eager to learn about Sudoku.

Buku Sudoku is worth your time but it won’t replace your pen-and-paper version.

Buku Sudoku isn’t bad; it’s just that the Xbox 360 doesn’t really seem the platform for such an experience.

Sporting high-resolution visuals and a comforting soundtrack, the only major addition is multiplayer, but we didn't encounter many challengers online, since this is a game that most people want to play by themselves.

Buku Sudoku is well designed, and is good at teaching you how to play sudoku. However, there isn't enough in this little package to appeal to anyone other then sudoku enthusiasts.

At home on the 360 for 800 points, even despite the game's nice presentation and fairly lengthy challenges later on, you'd really have to be the world's most fanatical Sudoku player (or Carol Vorderman) in order to gain maximum enjoyment from it.

The problem that crops up with Buku Sudoku is a matter of value. There are literally hundreds of sources on the web where you can play Sudoku for free. Why would you pay money to play something that you can play for free?

It's just dull and not really what your console was created for. [Issue#34, p.117]
