The Onion (A.V. Club)
There are only two college basketball games available, EA's or 2K's. The latter costs less and plays better, so the choice is pretty clear.

The career mode is pretty frustrating, which is unfortunate because it's the main draw of a college game for me. The whole interface is too damn confusing, and there's not a word about it in the printed manual.

If you haven’t played College Hoops 2K6 on the Playstation 2 or Xbox yet, then the Xbox 360 version will be perfect you. If you already own the current-generation versions, then there probably aren’t enough new things to warrant an additional purchase, especially at $60.

Since the features are pretty much identical to the current-gen versions of the games, I find it hard to suggest that someone pay 30 dollars more for what surmounts to a graphical upgrade.

If you held off on Xbox and you dig the college game and atmosphere, this is your best(and only)bet on 360. [Apr 2006, p.81]
TeamXbox
It’s certainly not so bad that it’ll ruin the series name for future releases and it does provide a fair amount of gameplay potential despite its flaws and glitches, but it will surely upset some of its player base who expected that the title would be a vast improvement—a next-generation title that pushed their system to new heights of performance.

The game’s most glaring faults are just too hard to ignore and the visuals aren’t as remarkable as it could have been. If you’re a fan of college b-ball or missed out on the original Xbox version, then you might want to consider buying this.

If you haven't played the game at all, then you're in for a deep, well-rounded basketball experience, but you already knew that.

College Hoops 2K6 for the Xbox 360 is a late entry that maintains the same great gameplay from its previous versions, but doesn't have enough new features or content to justify the new price of admission.
There's nothing next-gen about this Xbox 360 port, as apart from the improved visuals, everything else remains the same. And paying double the price of the normal version is not our idea of fun.

The legacy mode has me hooked with all the options such as switching teams to other conference but it will only last so long until I move on.
This is simply an adequate basketball game. What's not so simple is justifying the price tag: $60 compared to $30 for the Xbox and PS2 versions, when you really don't get much extra for your cash.
The game still plays incredibly well and manages to capture the manic energy of college hoops, and the Legacy mode is recommended for dunk-alites, but the presentation is clearly in second place behind NBA 2K6, thanks to fuzzy graphics and a lame commentary duo.

While it's clear that College Hoops 2K6 is capable of satisfying most sports gamers' thirsts for an NCAA licensed basketball game, we can't find a single reason why anyone should pony up the extra cash for the same game they could own on their recently abandoned Xboxs and PS2s.

The player models look more plastic-like than the cast of Desperate Housewives, and there are no new game modes or significant features to warrant the price increase.
Other than some small graphical tweaks, this is an unchanged port that costs a whopping 30 bucks more than the other versions. It's not a bad game by any means, but nor is it a new one.

Job A. gave it a9:
Unbelievable! Its almost a direct port from the x-box version but improved!Very, very deep game that will satisfy every basketball fan.The perfect college game to go with the great NBA 2K6.
Blake S. gave it a10:
Best game ever. It is the most realistic basketball game that has ever been made.
DC gave it a9:
Off the Hook, this is one the best hoops game out there. Go get it
Craig C. gave it a9:
The people giving this an average of 7 are on DRUGS! The gameplay is smoth, and it is MORE realistic than NBA 2K6. Kobe or whomever isn't taking off just after 1/2 court for crazy dunk! I like the game, and it is worth buying.
