Summary
Commanders: Attack of the Genos is an accessible turn-based tactical battle game providing challenge for all levels of players. The genetically enhanced army of the Genos have decided to attack Earth. With your powerful Commander unit, use Missile Launchers, Bombers, Infantry, and other attack units to cripple the enemy and defend your territory—online or off. Specialized attack units: Fifteen different units are provided to serve alongside your Commander unit. Use the units' unique powers to conquer the Genos. Fight fifteen different missions sprawling across three different landscapes, with two levels of difficulty for ease of play. Three intense multiplayer modes are included, allowing up to four players in Versus mode. Try the Team Play mode, or take on Skirmish with a friend on the same system. The game has two distinct endings to encourage replayability. The science-fiction setting features a gorgeous 30s Art Deco style. It's a blast from the past into the future. [Sierra Online]

Team Xbox
From start to finish, it’s a fun experience and deserves to be drafted into most gamers’ Xbox LIVE Arcade library.

Commanders: Attack of the Genos is no comparison to any modern strategy, it isn’t a comparison to many strategies within the last ten years even, but this game does surpass what 80% of Xbox live arcade currently holds by a long run, as it introduces originality, character & value, this is a rarity that needs to be looked up to.

A breath of fresh air for Xbox LIVE Arcade providing a fun turn based strategy game well worth your 800 MS points.

All in all, Commanders is a fun ride on a small scale, if the turn-based strategy genre is your thing.

If you're not a fan of strategy games, then there's nothing particularly different or compelling about the gameplay in Commanders to change your mind about the genre. For the rest of you, it does do a nice job of serving up some fun albeit straightforward strategy gameplay.

Fans of the strategy gaming genre will find tactical challenges aplenty as both a single-player and multiplayer offering so there’s a lot to love about this title.

Fans of the Advance Wars series or folks looking for a solid strategy game should shell out the 800 Marketplace points for this title.

Commanders is a fine addition to Xbox LIVE Arcade. Not only does this game fall under the genre that has a lacklustre presence on Microsoft's online service, it is also an excellent title in itself. If you like Advance Wars on the DS, this game will be right up your alley. The graphics make the game feel fresh and give it its own face.

A fun, supremely-playable game that can and will be enjoyed even by those who aren’t hardcore strategy fans.

Unfortunately Commanders: Attack of the Genos doesn't take any major chances or evolve the genre in any significant way, but it does what it sets out to do and gives you a great deal of action for a mere ten dollars.

Everything feels crafted with care, and it's a fun and stylish strategy game.

Despite a mediocre story and familiar gameplay aspects, Commanders: Attack of the Genos isn't afraid of showing a goofy side of an enjoyable experience. At eight hundred points, it's more than a welcome addition to the Xbox Live Arcade.

The game is a fun distraction as a single player game and a good amount of fun when playing online.

A perfect way to get turn based strategy gaming onto the 360. It is easy enough for anyone to pick up and play, but has some of the strategy genre staples that will get people deeper into the hobby.

For better or worse, Commanders: Attack of the Genos is a high-definition homage to Advance Wars, but at a bargain Arcade price rather than a full retail offering.

Sierra has done a great job of keeping the turn based game going at a good clip and reduced the waiting times as much as humanly possible.

Does what it sets out to do well and is an accessible game that budding strategiests will be able to comfortably jump into with both feet. [Issue#31, p.117]
Official Xbox Magazine
Flag-wavers for hexagonal turn-based strategy games, take note: Commanders' less flexible squares won't offer up the daunting depth of a full-priced title. [Apr 2008, p.76]
1UP
The game mechanics are still what you'd expect from this type of strategy game (meaning they work). It's only hampered by slow, slightly cumbersome controls, the occasional viewpoint problems of a 2D-game-in-a-3D-world environment, and some of the most sadistic Achievements seen in a downloadable Xbox Live Arcade game.

This enjoyable turn-based strategy game has plenty to offer solo players and online skirmishers alike.

Coming in there shouldn't be any expectation that Commanders: Attack of the Genos is trying to do anything new for the turn-based strategy genre. Instead it offers a fairly substantial amount of gameplay for a fairly small price tag, which should be enough enticement to grab those in need of another turn-based game.

For short sharp bursts though CAOTG is quite a neat little strategic title let down by a succinct lack of depth and some naff presentation here and there.

While the game is otherwise an Advance Wars clone, somehow it's much less than its inspiration. Perhaps it's the fact the units' rock-paper-scissors relationships aren't so immediately obvious, or the weaker level design or the schizophrenic yet middle-of-the-roach aesthetics, but Commanders: Attack of the Genos lacks character, identity and personality.

Lacks the fine-tuning of the "Advance Wars" series, but at 800 points it's a passable clone. [May 2008, p.98]
Planet Xbox 360
Those in dire need for a turn-based strategy title on the 360 will have no choice but to fork over the 800 MS Points, but it is hardly worth half that.

Annoying rather than quirky and appealing. [Apr 2008, p.99]

James M. gave it a9:
Very similar to Advance Wars on the DS - not quite as good but then it's under half the price so, for the money, excellent.
Obeyd M. gave it a9:
This game is good simple fun and is very addicting once you start playing it.
