When the US government needs to act, but can not afford to be associated with the operation, deniable operatives are dispatched. Members of the unit must bear no identity; no objects, papers or clothing that could associate them with the government. Their task is to do anything necessary, no matter how ruthless, to dissolve the threat. Conflict: Denied Ops puts players in control of two of these merciless operatives, each of them highly specialized in both weapons and military tactics. With gameplay focused on accessible two-man tactics, utilize simple commands and switch seamlessly between team mates to lay down covering fire, explore diverging paths, create distractions and pin the enemy under fire. Making full use of Pivotal's Puncture Technology, Conflict: Denied Ops features a highly destructible environment, allowing players to utilize tactics such as shooting through walls to create sniping holes or blasting open new paths to take the enemy by surprise. Fighting for a good cause, does not mean they have to play by the rules. Brutalize the opposition, blast down buildings, and destroy everything in true Hollywood fashion – all throughout politically sensitive areas across South America, Africa and Russia. Game Chronicles
While the title lacks a certain quality that is normally associated with next-gen titles, I found that despite its few shortcomings it is a very enjoyable game for the most part.

Conflict: Denied Ops offers many of the best features that you’ll find in today’s first person shooters, and combines it with an excellent co-op mode and a nice variety of online game modes.

Conflict: Denied Ops isn’t going to set the world on fire. The game isn’t worthwhile by yourself (mostly because the little friendly AI issues add up and the enemy AI’s annoyance factor is multiplied when you’re dealing with it alone), but if you’re going to play it with a friend, it provides a guilty pleasure.

It will scratch that itch if you’re looking for nothing more than some mindless gunplay mixed with dangerous doses of testosterone, but there’s nothing going on upstairs. And for a tactical shooter, that’s not going to cut it.

Planet Xbox 360
Conflict is not a terrible game, but there is no hook here to set it apart from the countless other (and better) first-person military shooters already available.

This certainly is a bullet-fest of a game, but one that will no doubt have a very limited shelf life… worth a look, but as a rental.

The best way that I can describe Conflict: Denied Ops is that it is not a bad game overall, but it definitely isn’t a good one either.

Conflict is a by-the-numbers first-person shooter that just never gets going. [Mar 2008, p.66]

Game Informer
Denied Ops offers the bread and butter of deathmatch, team deathmatch, and conquest, but nothing about this tacked-on feature set stands out. I suppose you could say the same thing about the entire game.

Nothing at all in this game stands out from any other First-Person Shooter currently available, from the menus, to the gameplay, and of course the graphics. Everything feels a bit half hearted, and possibly the games famous franchise was relied on to push high sale figures instead of actual quality gameplay itself.

Armchair Empire
Conflict: Denied Ops is closer to the back of the class, but is saved from failure by including a straightforward co-op mode, with the emphasis on blowing things up rather than any kind of military tactics.

Game Over Online
With Denied Ops, the fifth installment in the Conflict series, Pivotal Games chose to focus their attention on co-operative gameplay, and while there are some interesting elements found within the game, they’re overshadowed by a series of poor design choices.

But still, the unexceptional, shooter-by-numbers gameplay isn't compelling enough to demand your attention--either solo or in tandem. [Apr 2008, p.76]

Rent it to scoff at the absurdities, and play through it with a friend for some fun co-op.

A little dumb and a lot dated, yet still marginally enjoyable if you're into retro shooters with lots of kabooms.

This could, and indeed should, have been a market leading game, blowing people away with clever tactical shooting action. Instead, it’s flawed and with the exception of the co-op mode, has nothing to make it shine.

In some other developer’s hands or maybe with a bigger budget, Conflict: Denied Ops could have been decent. There are some really good ideas underneath the surface. But the execution is all wrong. Conflict: Denied Ops ain’t pretty, ain’t fun and definitely ain’t worth your hard-earned cash.

Worth Playing
With a tedious single-player campaign riddled with monotonous action and online play offering a bare-bones experience, the best that players can hope for with Denied Ops may be to simply deny having played it.

It's doubtful the developers set out to reinvent the FPS wheel, but in even the basic areas-controls, story, co-op-the experience comes off as subpar.

Conflict: Denied Ops could have been a huge step in the right direction for the series. With so many years spent on one series, it’s a shame to see Pivotal Games at a lost of how to enhance the future of the franchise.

Drearily predictable stain on the franchise. [Apr 2008, p.88]

Fundamentally, combat feels feeble and insubstantial - partly out of aesthetic failure to convey power, but mostly out of a design choice to limit the effectivness of your weaponry (see 'Gun Damn'). [Mar 2008, p.95]

X360 Magazine UK
A depressingly mundane FPS, never once striving for greatness and seemingly happy to settle for faceless mediocrity. Another letdown when we hoped for so much more. [Apr 2008, p.86]

EuroGamer
If you're a fan of Conflict and/or shooters in general, you're likely to find Denied Ops shallow and dull. The two-man control system doesn't work properly. The visuals are ugly. The script is sub-Armageddon. Yes, it's easy to pick up and play. But if you're after an experience with real challenge and depth, you won't want to.

Conflict: Denied Ops is a mediocre first-person shooter with average gameplay. With so many flaws, this game is a tough sell at its current premium price.

It offers nothing unique and has almost no production value. Shooters are a dime a dozen these days and most have this game beat at every turn.

A mess of a game in all senses of the term. Its gameplay is at least one generation behind the competition, its presentation is like a collection of every graphical effect thrown into a mixing pot and poured onto the screen and the online implementation leaves a lot to be desired.

This game has no personality because it is filled with predictable, relentlessly average design. Sadly, even the boring design actually manages to struggle, thanks to a few key flaws.

There was never much indication that this was going to be any good. What surprises me though, is how much this game makes me want to put down my controller and walk away from my system. You don’t feel like playing any sort of game after engaging in this one, which is just a dangerous enough side-effect for me to recommend that you don’t even look at the box this game comes in.

My opinion on this it's the worse in the series they were just getting better and better then dropped the ball and released this C%$##.....Ello wake up and smell the coffee what were you thinking...game companies should get fined for releasing crappy games and flooding the shelves with nothing but wastes of money projects....Hell fire the guys who designed this and get guys who want to create great games.

Dale D gave it a1:
This game just completely fails. I was playing the demo the other night and it had to be the worst thing I've ever played in my life.

Joseph H gave it a0:
This game is junk. I wish i would have kept forza 2. 007 on N64 is more enjoyable. Even if you can get it for free, Turn it down!!!

Mr. T. gave it a1:
Imagine this everyone imagine resident evil 1 controls on crack and throwing them on a first person shooter. and please don't be drawn in with the price, I could make a better game with xna on my 360 i hate this game its a truck load of baby crap.

Douglas B. gave it an8:
Hey, this is a great game, at least in my opinion. I enjoyed all the conflict games by pivotal. The single player is cool, and the split screen coop is fun.

Michael B. gave it a6:
Not quite as bad as some of the reviewers are making it out to be, but still nothing to write home about. There are way too many great FPS's on 360 to justify buying this... just go get Call of Duty instead.

Graham W. gave it a1:
Please remove my eyes and flagilate me for playing this. Go on I deserve it although the removal of the eyes is merely to rid myself of the horror of witnessing the graphics. The flagellation is to treat myself after playing through this debacle.
