Summary
[Xbox Live Arcade] Rediscover the arcade classic game Cyberball 2072 on Xbox Live Arcade. Take control of your robotic team, and call the plays to move your downfield for a touchdown. But watch out. The ball gets hot if you don't keep moving. Keep your eye on the ball to make sure it doesn't go critical before you can score. Call more than 100 plays for your robotic team. The Beat the Coach mode enables you to go up against the A.I., simulating a live opponent. The special Challenge Mode tests your ability to make the play under pressure. Build up your win record, and buy upgraded robots to improve your roster. Fast football action with robots. The ball gets hotter with each play and can only be reset by moving past the 50-yard line or scoring a touchdown. [Microsoft]

The 400 point price is about right, and I’d recommend this game to just about anybody willing to give it a shot

A tired sports game with wasted potential. [Dec 2007, p.109]
IGN
Cyberball 2072 holds up fairly well and the option to team up with a friend and take on some live humans would have made this a great arcade football alternative. As it stands, the game just isn't all there.

American Football fans looking for a cheap retro fix will probably squeeze 400 points worth of fun out of Cyberball before déjà vu sets in, but the absence of any real multiplayer challenge means any amusement comes with a built-in expiry date, one that arrives sooner than you'd like. It's no Speedball, that's for sure.

This game is not worth your money or even the time it takes to download it. Not having the ability to play against another human is a huge strike to this game. Bottom line is to avoid this game.

Sadly, Cyberball 2072 doesn't live up to our feelings of nostalgia, and a couple of design choices by the dev team leave this port on the wrong side of the line of scrimmage. [Dec 2007, p.78]
Xbox World 360 Magazine UK
You'll need to be a serious American football/robot fan to get stuck in now. [Dec 2007, p.96]
X360 Magazine UK
A real mess of ideas that tries hard but just doesn't have what it takes. [Issue 26, p.118]
GameSpot
Without the ability to compete against human opponents, this version of Cyberball 2072 is a completely useless waste.

khan800 gave it a7:
I have to agree with Andyman, my favorite arcade game of all time, as well... but WHERE is the online vs.? Docking it 3 points for lack of that, plus the insane 'finish all 10 pages of Game-Breakers' achievement.
Andyman gave it a9:
My favorite arcade game of all time, and it's made the trip to Live Arcade pretty well. The only downsides I noticed were some slight control issues (the analog stick doesn't translate the digital controls 100% perfect, and the d-pad just sucks) and the bizarre omission of access to the game's dip-switch settings (you only get to change the game timer, and it's already defaulted to the slowest setting, so there's no need to change it). Even so, this game just ROCKS on Xbox Live. Great stuff.
