Summary

[Xbox Live Arcade] Eets: Chowdown is a visual feast for the eyes and a treat for the brain, combining 2D puzzle game elements with a surreal sense of humor. Gamers must use colorful and whacky items like spouting Prankster Whales, vengeful Marshomechs, Radioactive Ginseng and more to manipulate Eets' emotions and safely guide it through myriad hazards to each level's exit. Eets: Chowdown offers a slew of new items, 120 levels and the exclusive debut of Marsho Madness, a high-adrenaline action game in which players must keep the impending evil marshmallows at bay. Earn up to 12 Achievements and 200 Gamerscore points. [Klei Entertainment]

A special little number. [Issue #22, p.114]

One of the most visionary XBLA titles since "Alien Hominid."

Team Xbox

The majority of the puzzles occupy that zone between "challenging" and "frustrating," so you shouldn't feel bad if you get fed up with it every once in a while. I noticed that stepping away from the game when I was stuck usually helped me out, since it gave my brain a little time to solve the puzzle or approach it from a new direction.

Eets: Chowdown is about as unusual an Arcade title as you can get.

Games Radar (in-house)

The flashy, splashy art style is cute without being annoying, new elements are introduced at a nice pace, and it’s just plain satisfying to create goofy contraptions that keep our charismatic little cartoon glutton alive and puzzling.

GameSpot

It's an easy game to pick up, but the cartoonishly warped art style belies a hearty challenge as you get further into the game. The levels certainly get more complicated as you advance through the seven different worlds of Eets: Chowdown, but the action remains consistent throughout the game.

Official Xbox Magazine

Eets is fun in small doses, and while it's worth the $10 asking price, few will crown it a new classic. [May 2007, p.79]

IGN

The puzzle design is quite good, though not very involved physically.

Game Almighty

I was most impressed with the look of Eets. You may have seen the older PC game, and if so then you know what to expect here. The only way I know how to describe the characters is as cutesy with a serious edge. The characters, especially Eets himself, looks like you could pet him but at any moment he might just bite your head off.

Eurogamer

Eets is of most value to players who enjoy experimenting. In much the same way that it's fun to replay the same level of "TrackMania" or "Mercury Meltdown" over and over to find a better solution, finding a way to complete a level in Eets without using up all of your available tools is satisfying - and the game credits players who use their imagination, too, with a range of achievements reserved for players who can get through without exhausting their inventory.

Extreme Gamer

The game can get repetitive and a little stale, but in short dosages it works.

Official Xbox Magazine UK

Eets has got the glee of design that made Worms and Alien Hominid exciting and unpredictable, without the violence. [June 2007, p.96]

Xboxic

A mixed bag overall. Initially it will seem excellent; puzzles are fun and challenging, the graphics look nice and it seems quite thought provoking. Discover the solution in the START menu and it begins to change, because lingering in the subconscious is the thought that this puzzle can be easily solved.
