An excellent treat for fans of the books and soon to be fans of the film. The game covers a lot of territory while doing a great job of bringing a decent amount of challenge and thrills to the masses.

While it's true that Eragon is not a game that will change your life or keep you hooked to your TV for 60 hours, it is a really damned fun co-op title where you and a buddy can wreak havoc on big orc-like critters with sick-looking neck-snapping and gut-stabbing moves.

Unless you’re a hardcore fan of the book series and film, I’d take a pass on Eragon.

The game's character models, voice-acting, and sweeping fantasy score are the only items that hold-up throughout the experience, with the combat system loosing its luster early due to overly repetitive gameplay.

Yes it's a typical movie license, but that's not to say that Eragon won't appeal to gamers that like simple gameplay. [Issue 15, p.91]
Game Chronicles
Having never read the book or watched the movie I was able to approach Eragon from a purely gaming standpoint and was totally disappointed. Not only did it not live up to the franchise material upon which it was based, it just wasn’t a good game.

Even though the Xbox 360 version contains two additional levels and boss fight this is not really worth the price of admission since there are so many better games already out on the market.

In the final analysis, however entertaining the movie might be, Eragon is an experience that’s better to read than it is to play.

Littered with occasionaly glimmers of hope, Vivendi’s attempt to create a true killer-app sadly falls flat, with most of the game feeling uninspired and largely by-the-numbers.

Eragon isn’t a bad game per se but is ultimately an average affair as it offers very little innovation to hack and slash gaming.

If you’re dying to play a game like this, then EA’s Lord of the Rings games are very similar and far superior. And if you’re a die hard Eragon fan, then go with the GBA version instead and you’ll be a lot happier.

Eragon isn’t an awful game. The problem is that what is there isn’t good.

Eragon continues the age old tradition of mediocrity in movie-licensed games.
The battle system is fairly shallow; the dragon riding is plagued by bad collision and controls; the presentation isn’t up to Xbox 360 standards; and the story is merely decent.

Eragon's redundancy and simplicity just offers too few reasons to keep playing.

The game seems to depend on a couple of nice ideas that you’ll repeat over and over again, thinking merely of the satisfaction of finishing the adventure rather than the fun you’ve had playing it.

Nearly every aspect of Eragon is a disappointment, from its straight-outta-the-current-gen graphics to its poor in-game camera.
Eragon isn't worth the brief amount of time it takes to play through it. The gameplay and presentation aren't up to snuff and the storytelling cutscenes don't do their job at all.

Scores of less than 50% generally indicate some sort of game-breaking technical flaw, unforgivable glitches or an Entomologist's dream serving of bugs. But in the case of Eragon, it's the simple fact that the game is absolute crap. Awful graphics, pedestrian gameplay, and about as much depth as the average puddle, Eragon lacks any sort of redeeming qualities...with the exception of just how quickly the painful ordeal is over.
Eragon relies entirely on tedious, unenthusiastic gameplay that's way too shallow to sustain interest for more than a few minutes.
It's kind of a cakewalk. You won't feel pressed to utilize just the right combos for a given situation, and health boosts are generously doled out. Even the highest difficulty is pretty forgiving.

Feels rushed and slapped-together as a low-budget attempt to cash in on the holiday film release and make a quick buck from the fans before word gets out that it's not worth half its retail price.

Magic may be coursing through Eragon's veins but it's exactly what's lacking from this dreary hack'n'slash affair.

Realistically, Eragon's appeal won't expand beyond its Potter-like fan base. [Feb. 2007, p.78]
Official Xbox Magazine UK
Movie tie-in unable to flourish because of a by-the-books approach. [Jan 2007, p.94]
Gaming Nexus
One of the worst games I’ve ever played. Tedious, unimaginative, button masher that offers little new to chew on.
Everything that can possibly go wrong with Vivendi Games' movie-licensed game does. The visuals are weak, staggered by a flawed and annoyingly fixed camera system. The combat becomes tedious, with very little change (if any at all) over the course of the game.
A pretty awful attempt to successfully cross the media-divide, so hopes will have to be pinned elsewhere.
Though it doesn’t need to be easier at all. Eragon is a breeze in six to eight hours, and no part, even the final battle, really tasks any of your elite or even rudimentary gaming skills.
Eragon drags up torrid memories of the bad old days when movie licensed games were not only terrible games, but had sod-all to do with the subject matter. Judged on its own merits, it's clearly below par game in every single area imaginable. Technically bereft, poorly designed and coma-inducing to play, it's about as far away from being an example of where gaming is today as you can imagine.

Darren D. gave it a5:
Had a bit of fun playing this game but really it's not that good. The camera was the most annoying thing about this game at all times.
Mike C. gave it a2:
Man, this game ios absolute garbage, I rented it because I heard it was an easy 1000 gamerscore, which it is, but the time you spent playing will make you want to vomit, I can only say the same about a few other games, those are Phantasy Star Universe and King Kong. Still worth a rent if your a G-Score type person.
Shawn O. gave it a0:
Worst game ever even my little brother who buys the worst Xbox 360 games ever hated it...it has terrible graphics. I recommend not renting this game its not worth the 5 bucks!
