Team Xbox

For a small outlay of MS points, Frogger captures that old school feel that will bring many a gamer back to the quarter stacking days. The controls are tight, the updated graphics are snazzy, and the online options are pretty nifty.

For a mere five bucks, you'd be a fool not to download one of the greatest arcade games of all time. [Oct. 2006, p.72]

Frogger is still charming and still gives you that queasy nervous feeling when you suddenly realize how much of a challenge it is you're eventually facing.

Games Radar (in-house)

It's not complicated, but Frogger holds some serious reminiscence value for those old enough to remember the ancient quarter-muncher even if it doesn't maintain quite the addictiveness of newer casual games like "Zuma" or "Feeding Frenzy."

Getting to levels four and five, reaching 30,000 points in a co-op game and managing to deliver 15 frogs to the other side of the river on one life are tricky tasks that'll keep you going for a bit, but otherwise Frogger will probably take you less than an evening to exhaust.

I like this game. I think my 400 Microsoft Points were well spent. However, it does have some flaws that are a result of simple design choices, and some flaws that are a result of a few programming glitches.

GameSpot

It's a mostly faithful emulation of the arcade original with a few interesting updates that should please fans of the series.

Game Chronicles

Frogger is quick and fun, pick up and play arcade action at it’s best. Got 5 minutes to kill, this game can help you with that.

Thunderbolt

At its core is one of the greatest arcade games ever. Just remember that there’s nothing else waiting for you and that although you can finally get online with a Frogger title, you’ll be more alone there than you would be playing single-player.

IGN

Digital Eclipse did a perfunctory job with Frogger. All of the little additions make it a nice, friendly arcade game for the casual gamer, or conversely for the obsessed hardcore, old-school perfectionist.

GamerFeed

Digital Eclipse is a master of emulation and could've just made the game it was originally intended, instead of trying to spruce it up. However, the best aspects are still intact, and I suppose that's good enough to drop 400 points ($5) on a purchase.

Xbox Evolved

Basically just another old school title ripped out of a compilation pack, and a five dollar fee attached to it. That said, the game is still solid, definitely prettier than any of the other old-school Live Arcade titles out there.

GameShark

For some bizarre reason, Konami thought it would be a great idea to make the screen as tiny as possible and make it as difficult as possible to fix it. You have to pause the game (while in game) to adjust the screen size. While in single player it’s not a problem, but during an Xbox Live game, it’s very much a problem.

Game Over Online

Unless you spend a lot of time exclusively playing Xbox Live Arcade titles, though, it’s probably not worth picking up the full game as you might find you’ve seen and done everything with the trial itself.

I enjoy playing it in short bursts. Short because if I try to play more than a few rounds I get increasingly annoyed by the bad hit detection and unresponsive controls.

Mat C. gave it a3:
Buggy, clumsy, and frustrating. You can even jump backwards first, cover up your time, and then get around to playing. Some achievements also are not triggered properly. Play the demo. After that, replay the demo. Save the $5 on this one.

Sean S. gave it a3:
Poorly implemented 'pocket money' version of the original with no apparent effort to update it for 2006. Unacceptable that a game that involves moving up/down/left/right has online lag and unresponsive D-Pad controls. Advertised feature of offline co-op/mp doesn't seem to actually be in the game (may be wrong, but I've not found it) and glitches with unlocking achievements. Screen has to be manually stretched across widescreen tv's otherwise you can't see it properly, then resized again to make the mp fit onto the screen. 3/10 score purely because of Frogger's 'classic' status and the price. If I was MS, wouldn't want too many people seeing this as an example of what the Arcade has to offer. If it was offered as part of a retro bundle may have got away with it but as the first arcade title for a couple of months not very impressed - the only noticeable hi-def graphics I've seen in this game are the gamerpic. It's cheap and it's Frogger, but personally I'd prefer to give my 400pts to charity.

Andyman gave it a6:
The Live modes make this game a 6 due to their sheer fun factor. The offline game is a frustrating 4 at best. The enhanced graphics mode has buggy collision detection: 4 separate times I jumped onto the center of a log and died for no apparent reason. I have never seen that happen in the classic game in 25 years of Frogger-playing. The fact that it doesn't keep your local high scores (other than your best in the Leaderboard) is really annoying and is a great example of some very lazy programming. Here's hoping Konami's future Live Arcade games have a bit more effort put into them.
