Iron Man, an explosive third-person action shooter game that pits one of the world's most renowned Super Heroes against unspeakable odds, draws its story from the upcoming movie while also incorporating story elements from original Iron Man comic books. Using the advanced technology in Iron Man's suits of armour, gamers can take advantage of the wide array of high-impact weapons to strategically annihilate any enemy force standing in their way. Before tackling stunning and immense open battlefields, players can customise their armour suit as they encounter progressively more vicious enemies, and fight in epic battles that could challenge even the toughest Super Heroes. Team Xbox
So, if you can get past Iron Man's steep learning curve and a little bit of tarnish in the visual department, what are you left with? A game that's far from perfect, but still better than a lot of movie and comic book tie-ins that have come before.

In essence, if you absolutely loved the film to bits and absolutely must have an Iron Man game to go with it, then Sega have done as good a job as they can of producing a playable version of the movie.

As movie tie in games go, Iron Man sits neatly on the pile and follows the formula of being decidedly average at best.

If you can persist though, the frantic arcade pacing and frenetic aerial combat in large open areas is quite enjoyable while it lasts.

360 Gamer Magazine UK
Iron Man only just scrapes itself above being a typical movie tie-in title by virtue of some nifty flight controls and the excellent suit. The missions are fun but repetitive and with a lack of a proper checkpoint system and muddy backgrounds, this fails to take off into the stratosphere of a top-quality 360 experience.

Cheat Code Central
Die hard fans of Iron Man will really appreciate the smooth controls and frantic gameplay. After all, the game feels like you've stepped into the toughest part of a comic. However, if you're just a regular gamer, you're going to want to pass on this title. The repetitive missions, terrible story, and ugly cutscenes are not worth your hard earned cash.

Iron Man's high-flying new adventure is hindered by erratic difficulty and repetitive level design.

An irritating experience that unfortunately has to go down as a Marvel disappointment. [June 2008, p.68]

After the movie turned out to be such good fun, the game landed with a heavy thud, failing to offer anywhere near the same level of enjoyment.

Boring, repetitive gameplay, uninspired level design and pathetic voice-overs are just part of the reason why Iron Man is destined to become a video store rental rather than a full price purchase.

Any way you cut it, it's just not worth the aggravation to play through what is just another botched licensed movie game. [June 2008, p.81]

The gameplay turns mundane as you blast target after target with no real feeling of being the all-powerful Iron Man. Worse yet, it suffers from too many setbacks with its flying and ground combat.

Iron Man is a typical movie game. The game has outdated graphics, repetitive gameplay and unsatisfying controls. Almost everything in this game feels wrong. Even the official licenses and soundtrack don't do the game justice. Even Marvel fanatics should stay far away from this product.

Following the format of releasing an uninspired superhero game on every conceivable format, Iron Man unsurprisingly offers little to anybody but the hardest Iron Man fanatic.

Flying is fun, the upgrades are neat, and the game can look good. However, these pros are outweighed by the aforementioned frustration, crappy storyline and lame cutscenes.

We've come to expect a missing coat of polish on film tie-ins, but Iron Man seems to lack even a level of care, resulting in a drab adaptation that sinks well beyond simple mediocrity.

And so rather than allowing you to feel like an armoured avenger, Iron Man's videogame outing merely offers the chance to lurch awkwardly around the sky like a drunken wasp while holding down a button to blow stuff up.

Total crap movie tie in game like transformers, pirates or Caribbean why game companies do it...don't they understand it doesn't matter how good the movie is it will not sell your crap movie tie in game so stop wasting money and time making them.

Chad W. gave it a7:
Once you get used to the controls its a fun game.

Tom E. gave it an8:
It is one of the better licensed titles out to date. I really like the open battlefield concept and the ability to convert from land based to full aerial attacks is great. I was able to gain roughly 300 gamerscore points through the first 5 missions. This is not going to be on the top of your replay list but it definitely will be fun while it lasts!!!

Gio D gave it an8:
Wow! A movie based game thats not horrendous, terrible or mediocre but actually good?! In my humble opinion Sega and Secret Level have pulled it off. So what does the gameplay consist of? Beating, blowing, and destroying the hell out of anything thats a threat. And to be perfectly honest thats about all you do in the game. Does it get repetitive? Sure, (what game doesn't?) but it is a GOOD and FUN repetitive. I mean, your Iron Man, what else would you really do?! Yes it has events from the movie while also adding comic book based story into the mix to give it more length. I also have to mention that one of the most important aspects of the game (the flying) was handled tremendously well. While the controls do take some time to get used to, once grasped you'll make the transition from flying combat to ground combat and vice versa easily. Overall i think it was really well done. Great job Sega, now bring on the Incredible Hulk.

Jon gave it a7:
I'd actually vote it a 7.5, it's not a brilliant game, but its fun enough.

Andy R. gave it a10:
Waiting 15 years to fly around as Iron Man. Thanks to this game it's now a reality. Yes it's a movie tie in, but the subject matter for me makes this a 10!
