Modern Warfare 2 crosses into the must-have category of video games effortlessly. It offers an unmatched shooter experience, a compelling story mode, a slick package of mini missions and a multiplayer which is pretty much unparalleled in depth.

Anyone who already has issues with the single-player ‘style’ of IW’s games will still find fault with the scripted, linear experience, but in terms of sheer drama and show-stopping set-pieces accompanied by laser sharp FPS controls, Modern Warfare 2 is your daddy. And that’s without Spec Ops and Multiplayer.

As much as I liked the single-player, even I have to admit that the multiplayer is where the real action is, and its new additions should (hopefully) help counterbalance some (but probably not all) of the dissension that will arise from the n00b friendly changes I noted.

Mixing real-world locations with bombastic set-pieces MW2 continues the guided, thrill-ride experiences of its predecessor, and adds even more depth to its multiplayer offerings. It might not have fixed all the problems from the first game, but there's just so much quality content packed into this game that it will almost certainly be one of the most-played games in your library for a long time to come.

The fact that I didn't even get into the stunning visuals and amazing sound design speaks volumes about the sheer amount of content in the game, and I could probably write another 800 words simply about the ridiculous attention to detail on display in each level.

The singleplayer knows no competition and the multiplayer and brilliant Special Ops-mode make Modern Warfare 2 a phenomenal package. There are truly some scenes in the game that can affect the way you think and feel. After five games, the series seems to have found its high mark. One of the best shooters ever.

It's hard to see the majority of people wanting to play any other multiplayer shooter until the next CoD is released, such is the quality of what's on offer here...Call of Duty: Modern Warfare 2 takes everything that was great about CoD4 and ramps it up to the next level. With the best multiplayer shooting that money can buy, an incredibly action-packed campaign and plenty of superb two-player co-op levels, this is without a doubt a real contender for game of the year.

I was impressed by its presentation, visuals and the wealth of gameplay it offers. I even enjoyed its story—though it’s admittedly fluffy, convoluted and campy in spots, it’s like a interactive war movie on TV that takes liberties with realism for the sake of being entertaining to watch (such as having an amazingly large number of helicopters crash to the ground over the course of the game).

With the music of Hans Zimmer and the cinematic scenes, you're sucked into the game and spit out after you’re done. The single player is rather short. It will take you about six hours to beat the game, but you get an intense and memorable ride the entire time. The game seems to be a little scripted, but it isn’t annoying for everyone. The multiplayer isn’t annoying at all. You can play for hundreds of hours without being bored. The Spec Ops mode extends that with fun for two. If you ever played a shooter and liked it, buy this game!

The air of unpredictability and the care that was paid to each separate element puts it in lofty company. The multiplayer hasn't received an overhaul, but considering most shooters are still playing catch-up with Call of Duty 4, the tweaks and twists make it the best multiplayer shooting experience in the industry. Few games manage to meet such high expectations.

When it comes to games which offer single and multiplayer, you'd have to be a harsh judge to claim a better first person shooter on console has been released this year, if ever. The War on Terror never rests. The same goes for Infinity Ward, who raises the bar again with Modern Warfare 2. Its new campaign keeps delivering a cinematic, inmersive, and visually spectacular experience, while polishing AI and respawn issues, and offering a minimum of 8 hours of gameplay. Without a multiplayer rival, where it's as powerful as a Tactical Nuke, including a first approach to coop, and archiving excellence in every aspect, this last Call of Duty proves itself as a very solid candidate to become the game of the year.

Absolutely one of the most rounded gaming packages of 2009. The single player campaign – while not long – is well-paced, with plenty of variety in settings and gameplay, and will definitely be a steep challenge on the harder difficulty levels. The multiplayer component is fully featured, with an expansive set of modes and maps, and it’s great to see persistent stats returning. Rounding it out is Spec Ops, which is very much the icing on the cake.

Modern Warfare 2 carries the good tradition of its predecessor. The campaign is nonetheless too short, and it feels too inspired to the previous one; on the other side, the multiplayer carries a lot of improvements, and Spec Ops is a well crafted coop mode. MW2 is spectacular in all the right areas; building and refining on the most solid of bases. Given the care and attention lavished upon the competitive and cooperative multiplayer in Call of Duty: Modern Warfare 2, it's clear that Infinity Ward sees the future of the Modern Warfare series in that particular component. There are two issues that make the campaign less than perfect. First is the length. Chemical Reaper gave it a3:
The single player campaign is absolutely phenomenal -- finally, Infinity Ward seems to have created a decent story. It tries to outdo Call of Duty 4's 2 deaths by killing off most of the major characters in the game. Unfortunately, that's where my praise for the game has to end. Why? Because multiplayer is inherently flawed. In fact, it's Infinity Ward's usual problem -- spawn points. You know there's something wrong when everyone on your team gets killed by a Javelin shoulder-launched missile within thirty seconds of the game starting... Weapons balancing issues, the usual cheap perks, and the fact that the game promotes and rewards stupidity. These things could easily have been fixed during beta testing--- oh wait, I'm sorry; I'd forgotten that Infinity Ward is so absolutely full of itself that they don't DO any testing... The single player on its own would get a 9/10. Unfortunately, Infinity Ward's over-arrogance and their inherently flawed multiplayer hold the game back. Overall, I give the game 3/10 -- and given the multiplayer mode, I think I'm being generous giving the game that many points.

Campaign was great. It did have those frustrating moments of fighting huge numbers of enemies, but it wasn't as bad as COD 4. The action is intense, my only question is: Where do they go from here? I mean, you blew up DC, blew up the space station, and insinuated the full scale invasion of Russia. Spec Ops is great, and I hope for a "Foxtrot" pack for DLC, but if not that's fine. Now comes the multiplayer, and for me the let down area. It's not a big let down. The action is great, perks leveling and weapons go well, and the maps are fun. However too much of the same old annoying mechanics. You know what I'm talking about: Dual shotguns, quick aim snipers, Javelins, and maps that facilitate camping. Generally, MW2 is praised for being realistic. I challenge anyone to find a realistic soldier who could lug around two shotguns, aim them akimbo, get no recoil, and reload that fast. Not even likely. The first month is great, and then you start seeing the people running around knifing, or using javelins and scavenger. Eventually it just becomes a camp off. This mostly effects Deathmatch and the like, but it gets frustrating eventually. I understand face-paced action, but this is pretty bad. And really, there is still no incentive to prestige. If this were MW1, I'd give it a 9.5, but IW had one game to learn from their mistakes. Campaign is the same, Spec Ops is fun, and Multiplayer is barely passing as "new and great." I give it a 7.

This game was a major letdown. The Single Player was the best part in my opinion, except that it switched from a somewhat believable story to one of the most absurd action stories ever. Spec Ops was okay, but if you pay attention, a lot of the missions are things you did in the previous call of duty game or in the Single player. And then there was the atrocious multiplayer. It is completely unbalanced and is full of glitches. I don't recommend this game if you have high expectations for it.

I don't see why there are so many people give games 0 score if its just a little bit bad or mediocre. People say MW2's campaign is less than 5 hours long, if you play on easy and do something like a speedrun. The campaign is really good, and not too short. Spec ops is fun with friends. Multiplayer is just awesome.

I Would like to see any developer top Infinity Ward at making a shooter that runs this smooth...looks this good...and be this much fun. The Multiplayer blows the original MW MP out of the water. And cheating is as prevalent now with pathes and what not so I don't know why people are having cows about it. Special Ops is a nice distraction and a challenging way to fish for achievements. I feel like its a bit underdeveloped however. I mean if they gave it a MP treatment, maybe you could actually select your loadout when going into a mission or something...that would make it awesome. and of course the campaign WAS amazing but after you complete it on Veteren and find the intel {the Cheat devoid intel:(.} there's no reason to ever play it again. Still one of the best games on the planet...halo sucks! (simply because you can't aim down the sights...and even if you could the aiming would be broken because halo isn't a smooth 60fps)

The game is perfect. Those who love it have a right to. Those who don't can't even spell words correctly in their hate comments against the game. Props to Infinity Ward for creating the best game I own.

It's difficult for me to score this game. On one hand it's the most media centric game I've ever played at is therefore extremely overated especially when up against GTA IV and he new sensation of Mass Effect and Bioshock. However there isn't any denying that this is gaming crack cocaine and an absolutely genre defining FPS. I came to my score based on the true facts of how addictive it really is, this isn't World At War overated, it earns most of its praise but those who are getting tired of this franchise like me should steer clear. It's intended for the fans so don't expect anything radically new that effects the gameplay, just know its better than the original.
