WonderwallWeb

A faithful conversion with a clever spin on game play on the Richest mode. It’s a real shame there is no online play.

IGN

In the end, Monopoly's newest video game edition is a good, but not great, interpretation of the Parker Brothers classic.

MEGamers

The only reason to buy a console monopoly game is having an online play, which this version lacks. The game itself is a solid monopoly when you are alone or you have lost your monopoly box.

A decent port of the classic board game. [Mar 2009, p.93]

EA has managed to produce a competent virtual version of the classic board game, but we still can't recommend it over buying the real thing. You get numerous boards and the questionable Get Rich Quick mode, but you lose so much by not being able to play the way you want.

With Monopoly for the Xbox 360 you're actually getting a really fun and well thought through experience worthy of the table top version. This very fact makes the absence of an online mode incomprehensible since this is an experience not meant to have by yourself. Because of this omission the table top version still rules supreme.

When it all boils down to it, the lack of multiplayer for this game is a huge disappointment and will probably be the main reason the game is not embraced by most folks.

Xbox World 360 Magazine UK

A dull, expensive experience, but it's faithful to the board game, at least. Yawn. [Jan 2009, p.70]

What a colossal mistake! [Dec 2008, p.93]

Blue Box gave it a1:
Somehow they didn't include online play. Xbox live is the main reason I wanted Monopoly in video game form at all. If this was an xbox live arcade game for 400pts / 5$, I'd still feel ripped off if they didn't include online play. But this game is a full fledged, expensive game. It's a major rip off. I gave it a 1 since some of the ideas in the game are okay (gameplay modes etc). But they didn't include enough to warrant the price.

Andyman gave it a3:
Massive disappointment. I fail to see how the same developer as the fantastic Monopoly Party (PS2/Xbox/GC) - a game that has an incredibly smooth and easy interface - could then create a version on a more advanced console that is clunky, awkward, slow, and confusing to play... and with no control options to speak of, you're stuck with it. Well, actually, no I'm not... it went back to the store the day after I got it. Stick with the last-gen version, you'll be VERY glad you did.

Dan W. gave it a0:
Don't get me wrong- I'm a Monopoly nut. But sadly, this game isn't Monopoly. Last I checked, Monopoly allows up to 8 players. Last I checked, the version of Monopoly that they made for the SNES back in 199X allows up to 8 players. So I wonder, who was the moron who decided this version should only have up to 4? Even when playing against the AI? Monopoly fans will be sorely disappointed by this title. And to think it was popular enough to be ported to every platform in existence. Even on the freakin' PC it limits you to 4 players (how do we spot a crappy console port again?) Sorry, but the title lies. Despite the unique board, the monocle-clad protagonist, and the little metal dog, this game is not Monopoly. Monopoly has 8 players.
