Summary
[Xbox Live Arcade] Mutant Storm Reloaded features the official training grounds for those who wish to master Blastikkidoo - the Art of Blasting. Just as in martial arts, you begin with a white belt and earn higher belts as you progress. As you move to higher belts, the difficulty increases, which in turn hones your skill. Your goal is simple: Blast through 89 levels inhabited by an array of nasty beasties and live to brag about it. Survive, and you could earn the elusive black belt. Play single player, or two-player cooperative on the same console in either Adventure Mode or Tally Mode. Post your scores to the Xbox Live leaderboards. Experience all-new graphics and sound effects. [Xbox.com]

It's fast, it's furious, it will absorb you utterly and it costs a mere 800 gamer points, so you're onto a real winner with this one!

As addictive as crack and as hallucinogenic as LSD, you might need some rehab after a few weeks of Mutant Storm Reloaded.

Flawless control, sleep-stealing gameplay ... there's just no reason to skip out on this perfect, mutated storm.

If you're wondering which shooter to pick out of the batch, I'd say download the demos and give them all a run. Mutant Storm Reloaded is the most expensive, but also has the most content in modes, and customization.

Although you’d have to be a real top-down blaster fan to own Geometry Wars and Mutant Storm Reloaded, it would be hard to pick between the two. Mutant Storm Reloaded is possible a bit more well-rounded, although it’s hard to argue with Geometry Wars’ TRON-like setting.

It’s 800 Microsoft Points, which is quite a bit when you consider that you could buy two similar games, Geometry Wars and Robotron, for the same price. However, in my opinion, this is the superior title, for its psychadelic appearance and varied gameplay.

Addictive, challenging and more fun than a game deserves to be. It may not beat Geometry Wars for sheer difficulty but with a two-player gaming mode it has got something that little bit extra up its jet engines.

A fine blaster. [Issue#23, p.97]
Eurogamer
All round, Mutant Storm Reloaded is the kind of sympathetic update that reminds us exactly why gamers gets so foamed up about supposedly outdated concepts. Sometimes things just work, and always will.

Trying to unlock the various difficulties is extremely challenging and can cause frustration for those prone to getting worked up over games. The loading is a little annoying at times but overall doesn’t hamper a stylish yet psychedelic experience that is full of shooting and lots more shooting.

Wildly addictive, and only the best players will be able to earn the highest-coloured belts.

Pom Pom has done an exceptional job at taking a simple concept and making it both beautiful to view and a pleasure to listen to. The graphics are fluid, organic, and distinct.

It's not the most immediately compelling arcade-style shooter in the world, but this top-down shooter has enough additional difficulty settings to make it entertaining, especially if you're into online score tracking.

Visually the game has a gelled look to it, with very balloony environments, that are pretty unique. The only bad thing about Mutant Storm is that it is 800 points, or ten bucks when a slightly better and similar game, Geometry Wars: Retro Evolved is 400 points, or five bucks.

I'd call Mutant Storm Reloaded a poor man's Geometry Wars Retro Evolved, but the fact that it costs twice as many Marketplace points kinda makes that insult moot.

Mutant Storm is a lot like "Geometry Wars", but less frantic but more full of power-ups. [Jun 2006, p.62]

In a world of shooters all aiming to win gamers’ hearts, Mutant Storm Reloaded has all the ingredients to succeed alongside the best of them.

Not only does it feature addictively simple pick up and play gameplay, but the stage-oriented design allows players to either go through a few stages or a few playthroughs at time.

Simon S. gave it a10:
Tally mode. Tally mode. This game is great I've lost hours to tally mode. More slow burning than geometry wars but also a damn sight more addictive.
Andyman gave it a10:
This is the game Geometry Wars Evolved and Crystal Quest wish they could be. 89 levels, 2 different gameplay modes (Adventure and Tally), 1-player and 2-player co-op modes, numerous powerups, many difficulty levels, incredible boss battles, outstanding electronic soundtrack... what more could you want? Just go get it now!
