Novadrome puts gamers behind the wheel of an armed, buggy-style vehicle to face off in gladiatorial combat on a distant planet. Offline, players can battle enemies or explore sprawling arenas filled with obstacles and power-ups. After learning the basics, they can then vie for ultimate bragging rights by engaging friends and other Xbox Live Arcade combatants through the highly customizable online multiplayer mode. 24 unique vehicles from which to choose 15 arenas of continuous, furious action. The main problem is, like most arcade games, I can’t see it lasting too long, or not long enough to justify a ten-dollar purchase. You’ll have to ask yourself, then: “Do I like racing around and crashing things?” If yes, this is probably the XBLA title for you.

There's just nothing particularly great about it. The only incentive to sink any major amount of time into it is that most of the achievements on offer require the best cars in the game to attain. But it's highly unlikely most people will be able to stay interested for even that long.

Novadrome just turns out to be a generic, vanilla action-racer with little going for it. XBLA doesn't offer too many racing games yet, so it's tempting to buy this, but even though it hardly costs anything, it's not worth the time.

After seeing screenshots and video of this game, I had high hopes for Novadrome. Unfortunately, this game is trying to be all things to all people, and falling short on each. Maybe if Novadrome focused on one thing (the racing has the most potential in my opinion), it could become something great - instead of many things average. Save your money.
