Summary
In Over G Fighters, a terrorist organization threatens the world's peace and security as players take to the skies in a united world air force. Players command more than 30 of the most powerful jet fighters ever conceived and battle for air superiority in massive dogfights in the skies above Europe, Asia, Africa and North America. Players combat enemies in the air and on the ground with challenging and dangerous strike missions against well defended targets deep in the heart of hostile territory. Fly the world's most powerful fighters: Fly every modern jet fighter in the Western arsenal including the F-22A Raptor, the US air superiority fighter of the 21st century. Face more than 90 Western and former Soviet enemies and get in the cockpit of the F-15E Strike Eagle, F-16C Fighting Falcon, F/A-18C Hornet, Su-27 Flanker, MiG-29A Fulcrum, and F-117A Nighthawk. Attempt more than 80 intense missions in a modern-day global conflict: Players take the fight to the enemy in aerial battles all over the world and face massive, challenging missions with interlocking sub-missions. After successfully completing the sub-missions, players will attack the most challenging primary mission objective. [Ubisoft]

Boomtown
It looks and plays fantastically well and recalls the days when flight sims were something fun and accessible as well as requiring intelligence.

Over G Fighters does nothing drastically different from other similar games. It also has a fairly steep learning curve especially where missile evasion is concerned.

Dog fights with 8 people are really a blast and the whole time I felt very little lag. [JPN Import]

Being a modern military aircraft lover, I can easily look over the sketchy graphics, the odd interfaces, and the brief missions and just enjoy the impressive lineup of birds. While it’s still hard to justify paying sixty bucks to fly a MiG, Eagle, or Raptor, this is as close as most of us will get to the real deals.

For casual gamers, the repetitive missions, complex gameplay mechanics and steep learning curve may leave many feeling bitter about a purchase.

For flight simulation fans, Over G provides a wealth of realistically detailed jets, loadout customization options, and gameplay modes. However, the game fails to generate a thrilling sense of speed.

Over G Fighters is for the hardcore fans of modern aircraft simulations. There isn't much here besides the accuracy of the jets and a few entertaining dogfights.

In spite of its unspectacular style and its translation-glitch quirks, Over G is a little weird, but lots of fun. [Aug 2006, p.92]

There is a steep learning curve. Initially it might appear that avoiding a locked-on missile is an impossibility, but these are realistic representations of modern arms so it was never going to be easy. The solution is to learn what real pilots do.

The planes look pretty and they fly with precise controls and accurate physics, but that’s about all you can say nice about Over G.
Though the game attempts to be more than mission-based monotony by also offering online multiplayer and some other options, the sluggish flight controls, bland graphics, and often-poor English translations conspire to make Over G Fighters a vapid package, overall.
Unfortunately, Over G Fighters doesn’t have the sense of speed, graphics, action, or mission structure to make you feel like you are flying the unfriendly skies.
A very average game. Sluggish controls and a lackluster presentation really hurt this game. The lack of real mission variety doesn’t help matters either.
Fans of modern flight sims will enjoy the game, but its bare-bones presentation and slightly technical nature won't win any followers among action gamers hoping for Top Gun-style dogfights.

The visuals are very disappointing, the music is terrible, control is weak, the gameplay is average and the price is $60. You do the math.

Over G Fighters manages to get into the sky, but fails to put on a memorable show.
Read Full Review >Planet Xbox 360
The presentation is pretty awful; it looks to be straight out of a Playstation 1 game, not a next-gen console.

To say that Over G Fighters is a phenomenally terrible game isn't an exaggeration or a quippy joke. [Sept. 2006, p.97]
Official Xbox Magazine
While the game strives for a balance of realism and playability, the bottom line is, it's not much fun. [Sept 2006, p.79]
Play Magazine
An ugly duckling. [Aug 2006, p.63]
Games Master UK
Modern missiles are too good to make games any fun - give us crap biplanes any day. [Sept 2006, p.65]
Electronic Gaming Monthly
Only players with a "Top Gun" level of dedication will persevere. Everyone else will start looking for the eject button. [Aug 2006, p.88]
G4 TV
To be breezily blunt, it’s possible to be Over G Fighters after a few hours’ worth of play.

If you're in the market for a proper jet-fighter game, I'd recommend hunting down a proper PC simulation. I remember EF-2000 from about 1998 being about 1998 times better than this. And if you want an arcadey dogfighter, try "Crimson Skies" for Xbox 1 instead.

Ease of play combines with the game’s slow pace to undermine all Taito’s good intentions. [Aug 2006, p.128]
Games Radar (in-house)
Even the multiplayer over Xbox Live can't save this title from a near-complete flare-out, and while there's nothing actually broken about Over G's gameplay, it still comes off as stale and tedious.
A really unspectacular package. The single player campaign is short and lacks variety, there’s nobody to play multiplayer games with, the action itself is confused yet utterly simplistic, and the game fails to graphically compete with titles released four to five years ago on significantly weaker hardware.
It's in need of plenty more flair, not so much that it strains against what its buttoned-down framework is trying to achieve, but just to inject some feeling of variety into its skirmishes and sorties. [Sept 2006, p.88]
Xboxic
Over G Fighters is one of those games that make me wonder what the quality assurance department was doing when it tested the game. If they only check for crashes, they failed... it crashed a couple of times (and only when I just unlocked a plane...), but if they also look at visuals and audio they have certainly been sleeping during the process.

A good example of why realism in games isn't necessarily the best outcome.
Read Full Review >360 Gamer Magazine UK
Not even one to recommend to diehard flight sim fans. In a relatively short space of time, Ubi has become one of the leading software publishers and really doesn’t need tat like this sullying its reputation – particularly when it’s perfectly capable of creating fantastic games all of its own. Bizarre.

Really, aside from the nice-looking replays, this game could have been made on a Sega Genesis or Super Nintendo without too much loss in game play.
Read Full Review >X360 Magazine UK
A game that can't decide what it is and should never really have been released; something that Ubisoft clearly realises given the amount of effort that hasn't gone into promoting it. [Issue 10, p.86]
1UP
A not particularly attractive game that provides neither the twitch-based thrills of an arcadey flight game nor the intricate controls and challenge of flying a realistic virtual aircraft.
Read Full Review >Detroit Free Press
From the laughable briefing scenes to the flighty controls, this game is simply not fun. The design, from front to aft, is flawed and, frankly, not up to par with the Xbox 360's standards.
Other than plenty of cockpit bleeps and bloops, the sound is also lackluster. Bad, generic metal loops dominate the soundtrack, making you actually wish Kenny Loggins was back on the scene.

Jay gave it a9:
Was really hesitant about buying this game after reading reviews on it..glad now I ignored them as they're all talking out of their ass.. Over G is as close to a PC flight sim as you can get on a console..it's far better than any of the crap Ace combat series which was basically point plane and shoot.. In this game you have tactics which you need to use otherwise you're dead. As for the loser who was whinging about landing on a carrier..try it on exper/hell mode wimp..no rechargeable weapons and manual landing..then it's hard as well... All in all very enjoyable.
Hollywood de Boer gave it a1:
I tried to find a good thing to say about this game, but my search yeilded no results. This game is a complete flop and should never be mentioned of again.
Matt H. gave it a2:
I'll try to make this simple: this game simply is not fun. It's not going to appeal to fans of shoot-em-up arcade-style games or the sim crowd. Everything about this game, except for the selection of aircraft is sub-par or worse. Avoid at all costs. If you just can't help yourself, at least rent it before you buy it.
SONIC 6877 gave it a9:
In life, I am a pilot and I must say the reviews of this game by critics is surprising and contradicting in some cases. Yes this game has a steep learning curb but then again, flying in life is that way as well. Could any of you critics jump right into a real F-16 and not make the same mistakes or worse? I would agree that the graphics could be better and they could fix some of the glitches but the game overall is a good one and plays well for someone who wants a more "realistic" setting than a "gamey" setting and has the patience to learn to fly these jets. Till you see a better fighter combat game for the 360 you should stop throwing stones.
Kevin E. gave it a7:
This game is a great game. The dogfights are great, the 360 cockpit view is awesome, and the variety of aircrafts are great. The only things that keep this game from being great are some graphic flaws, confusion or ease of missions, and audio.
Don M. gave it a0:
I have never hated a game as much as this one.
Kriss T. gave it a1:
Absolute rubbish..Some air combat games on my PS one looked and played better than this. As for the training missions ie: trying to land on a aircraft carrier...Landing gear up and landing gear down..that's your lot matey! IT SUCKS BIG TIME!
