Game Chronicles
Whether you are on land, sea, or the white sands of Davy Jones Locker, there isn’t a more swashbuckling time to be had and Jack Sparrow is the quintessential pirate hero.

A fascinating romp through a section of Disney history that everyone young and old can enjoy.

By no means is the game a classic, but it is arguably a good tie-in that drawns from the movies’ strengths and doesn’t do anything in particular to offend.

There are a lot of games out there that will be much better received and demonstrate sounder core design, yet those games in the end didn't entertain me like this one. [June 2007, p.78]
GameDaily
At World's End is better than most movie-based games, but that only makes its shortcomings more disappointing.

Overall the game is not great, but better than your average movie-tie-in, and if you like sword fighting or pirates in general, it could be worth your time.

Besides, any game that lets you engage in drunken bar room brawls can‘t be all that bad, savvy?

A fun romp mimicking the action of the movies; it looks good and captures the essence of the films – but it's just too easy for seasoned gamers and the lack of co-op multiplayer is a real bummer.

There were a few moments where I felt like Pirates could actually spark my interest, but I left bored in the long run.

I'd even go out on a limb that it's probably one of the best movie to game renditions I've ever played (although that's not saying a whole lot), and it would be perfect for the youngsters.

Not horrible at all, but also, nothing aside from the visuals is compelling enough to warrant a higher score

Pirates of the Caribbean: At World’s End is a good action-adventure sword swinging romp, which is enjoyable to play and perhaps even more so if you like or have seen the films.

The characters and scenery look absolutely gorgeous, and the speaking is surprisingly good. Sadly, the developers seem to have aimed at the younger crowd and the non-gaming crowd, as there's really no challenge other than overcompensating for the occasionally stupid AI.

There’s a ton of wasted potential here, but by the standards of the movie game the third Pirates game doesn’t fare too badly.

Gorgeous to look at but forgettable to play. [July 2007, p.81]
GameSpot
At World's End's slick visuals don't make up for the dull, repetitive combat and uninspired mission structure.

If you’re a hardcore fan of the films, then you might be able to overlook some of these flaws, but if not, then you may want to just give this one a rental.

At World's End could have been a better game, but the repetition in battle, lack of character monologue, and its “been there, done that” gaming approach really hold this game back from being something special.
It has impressive visuals and a likeable cast, but the combat and platforming felt like they were designed to appeal to 5 year olds, not exactly the perfect demographic for a game based on PG-13 movies.
There were times when I was getting into the action despite the repetitive fighting. A lot of the levels are well-designed and if you're a Pirates fan, it does a pretty good job of transporting you into Jack's world.
It's deep enough and features enough referential material to draw in the diehard fans of the source material but it isn't innovative or interesting enough to stand alone in the action genre. However, if you come in with lowered expectations, you just might have fun with it.

You'll run into bugs and questionable design decisions that make it feel rushed, and the gameplay elements themselves are nothing you haven't seen before. It's better looking than you would expect, however, which is probably enough to please movie fans.

Sure, it's cool that you'll find references to some of the more popular third-person action titles, such as Prince of Persia's balance-beam act and hand-over-hand wall crawling, but nothing in here screams innovation.
The only area where this game really shines is in its visuals. Developer Eurocom has pulled out all of the stops to bring out the highest level of realism in the character models and lush landscapes. This game may put a twinkle in your eye, but it’s quick to follow it up with a razor-sharp cutlass.

It’s a shame that it’s so boring to play that putting up with the game just for its presentation seems like walkin’ the plank because you wants to get to heaven.
The presentation is gorgeous and the gameplay has enough fun elements to make it worthwhile. Though not as deep or complex as it could have been, this is certainly one of the best movies-turned-games we’ve seen lately.

It is perhaps the very definition of mediocre. Combat is repetitive and boring, but not particularly flawed in any way, except perhaps for the weak AI.

A terrible waste of a potentially great franchise. There is a great Pirates Of The Caribbean game out there, just waiting to be made. This is not it. Swashbuckling and sailing the high seas has never felt so boring.

Pirates of the Caribbean : At World’s End keeps the cycle of poor movie to game transitions going. While it maybe a visually impressive game, that doesn’t make up for the lack of depth in the gameplay and uninteresting story.

Unfortunately, the majority of the game is spent hacking completely brainless enemies who literally turn their backs and wait for you to deliver the coup de grace once you've hit the A button enough times. [July 2007, p.81]
IGN
Let's put it this way: if it came down to playing this game for seven hours or walking the plank, it would be a tough choice. Save your hard-earned cash for a barrel of rum and consider a rental.

Combat can be repetitive and duels are boring. The game can be a lot of fun, the game just isn't as enjoyable as we'd hoped.

Lots for fans, little for everyone else. You've played this one before and it was better last time. [Aug 2007, p.70]

The developers got so many of the visual details dead-on...didn't they think that maybe the gameplay should be at least marginally decent too. [July 2007, p.86]

Don’t throw the game into the deep depths of the sea, but throw it into a small pond where you can retrieve it every now and then.

A passer-by who saw someone playing At World's End could be forgiven for thinking the game is worth a look, but beneath its next-gen gloss lies nothing more than a basic action game. If you want nothing more than a fancy looking title to show off your new HD TV, look no further, but don't expect too many great memories.

For all or its attractive locations and pleasant similarities to the films, it’s simply not an engaging game. [July 2007, p.117]
Gaming Age
Unless you’re dying for achievements or are a fan of the films, there’s no reason to buy or even rent At World’s End. Instead, leave it to the films to do all the work for you, it’s easier and costs less.
The combat's inexcusably awful. The duelling is absolutely mind-numbingly uninspired. The platforming and exploration feel tacked-on, overly basic and adds little variety, and the fetch quests plumb new depths in their tedious pointlessness...One of the most dreadfully vacuous and uninspired movie tie-ins in recent memory.

Wilma B. gave it a0:
This game is very repetitive and you will tire very easily from it.
Darren D. gave it a5:
If you like the films then rent this game because it has so many flaws it would be a waste of money buying it.
Mr. S. gave it an8:
It's a decent game. Bear in mind that the game is designed for the younger and more casual gaming audience and the more hardcore gamers will find it boring. I myself can't see me playing the game too much, but the better half seems to enjoy it a lot. The game looks nice, sounds nice and plays nice. The simplistic gameplay makes it appealing and the casual gamer won't have to curse the heavens for 15 button combos and super intelligent AI. A well built game alltogether.
Jason M. gave it a0:
Luke R.... Do you work for Disney? Come on! I'm a huge fan of the movie but this game is complete crap.
Luke R. gave it a10:
Beautiful scenery, character models and fluid movement. Some interesting puzzles, and entertaining if not repetitive swordfighting system. The only way the game could have been better is if they fixed the swordfighting system and mixed up the possible moves, otherwise the game is incredibly entertaining and beautiful to move through.
Ronald V. gave it an8:
This game is good. Yes, it's Disney and made for a younger crowd, so the combat system is simplistic, but fun. Graphics are amazing! Levels are great b/c you can play thru Dead Man's Chest AND World's End. If you are looking for a family fun game, this is GREAT! If you are looking for innovative FPS with blood, this game is not for you.
Manuel D. gave it a2:
Avoid at all costs!! Bad for you, your family and your future lives! You'll find yourself hammering the screen with your controller swearing words you don't even know what they mean. Pain, neverending pain!
