Summary
[Xbox Live Arcade] Strap on your bazooka soldier, and get ready for the awesome action-packed side-view shooter Rocket Riot. In this highly stylized eight-bit era style game, blast your way through the environment against enemies or multiplayer foes online. Navigate through a completely destructible environment, uncover special power-ups, or even burrow into different areas of the map. The map regenerates, keeping the action fast-paced, but time doesn't heal all wounds. [THQ]

A really entertaining title, and even more entertaining and funny if you play it together with friends.

It’s just plain fun, with the presentation adding to the entertainment.

A highly addictive game which we can't recommend highly enough. Buy it now you won't regret it.

Rocket Ride is a great game for the XBLA. The simple, but addictive, gameplay mechanics make this a perfect fit for the downloadable platform.

With Rocket Riot, Codeglue has shown us a unique stile which combines the past with the present. Because the controls are so easy and the game is filled with action, everyone can enjoy this title for hours. Therefore Rocket Riot is one of the arcade games, that every Xbox user should have tried!

THQ and Codeglue have got a winner on their hands. Rocket Riot is a very stylized, 3D rendered, 2D side view shooter that is fast, furious, doesn’t take itself too seriously and is just simply a hell of a lot of fun to play.

Codeblue has delighted us with one of the must have titles of Xbox Live Arcade.

Rocket Riot is highly original, despite its simplistic design and seemingly trivial action.

Fun graphics, cool twists to easy-to-use gameplay, and enough variety to stand on its own two feet, make Rocket Riot a decent alternative for fans of arcade shooters.

Rocket Riot delivers hours of fun, some good ideas and a lot of options. A must try and, in case you buy it, a cool way to have some fast paced matches with friends.

Rocket Riot is a great little game, one of the best I’ve played on Xbox Live Arcade in quite a while. There’s something about it that almost makes you feel like you’ve played it before, and several elements are reminiscent of other games.

If you're the type of gamer who wants depth and complexity to their games then Rocket Riot won't be to your liking, but if you fancy a great multiplayer game that demands no more of you than two functioning thumbs, you're sure to have a blast.

You should know that Rocket Riot will eventually wear thin. But its great looks, clever gameplay, and huge roster of unlockable characters give you plenty to do, and the end result is quite a bit better than the game's $10 price tag might initially lead you to believe.

One of the prettiest games on Live Arcade and one of the most fun multiplayer games on 360. [Sept 2009, p.103]
VideoGamer
Rocket Riot is a simple game in all areas, but the core gameplay is great fun and the visuals have a retro feel that gives the game a trendy appearance.

Rocket Riot is a blast. The game’s unique design and style makes it stand out against many of the other titles available on the Xbox LIVE Arcade, and at 800 Microsoft Points, this is yet another title to consider adding to your collection.

Shooting enemies and blowing things up, without having to think about complicated gameplay mechanics - That is Rocket Riot in a nutshell. With a unique retro look, this is a game that fans of Liero or Soldat don't want to miss.

The resulting chaos is entertaining, if not a bit over-stimulating. With creative level designs and tons of playable characters to unlock, Rocket Riot offers hours of explosive-fueled enjoyment before the fun starts to wane.

For 800 Microsoft Points ($10 / £6.80), Rocket Riot is a fun, chaotic gem of an Arcade game with enough unique firepower to keep you blasting blocks for a pretty long time.

This funny, fast-paced multiplayer shooter will have you repeatedly begging your friends for just one more rematch.

It isn’t very big and it isn’t especially clever, but Rocket Riot has a certain something which succeeds in putting a big sloppy grin on your face.

Rocket Riot is a great example of how a game can come out with little to no hype and still be a wonderful gem.

Terrific character-unlock system. [Oct 2009, p.82]
Gamer 2.0
The 800 point, or $10, price tag is very much worth it for the beefy single-player modes and decent selection of multiplayer modes for when you want to shoot people that are right next to you or over the internet’s tubes.

A quite good retro-themed and fast-paced gravity shoot ’em up. It doesn't take itself too seriously. Too bad there aren’t any multiplayer opponents around anymore. [Aug 2009]
Gamervision
I was very surprised by how much fun I had with Rocket Riot. I generally don’t love two-stick shooters, but I was quickly won over by the art style, destructible environments, and humorous gameplay.

A distinctive and demanding blaster that's worth a look if you remember blocky sprites and brutally difficult games fondly. [Sept 2009, p.82]
ZTGameDomain
It's done well, is particularly playful and features vibrant pixel art.

With 80, repetitive single-player missions that progressively become more difficult by simply increasing the number of enemies and the amount of damage they do, a similarly infuriating ‘Endurance’ mode that throws massive streams of enemies at the player, and a fun looking online multi-player mode that no one seems to play, Rocket Riot may be enjoyable for an occasional local multiplayer session, but little more.

In a time when Xbox Live Arcade seems to be lurching towards bigger and slicker titles, Rocket Riot takes you back to the early days of the service, when colours were bright, goals were simple, and the score meant everything.

Brace yourself and buckle your seatbelts kids, it's going to be a bumpy -- and destructive -- ride through the sky.

Alphega gave it an8:
+ Fun to play. + Great looking game + Fun party game to play with a couple of friends behind one tv + fast action (+/- which can result in total chaos, especially with the power-ups) +/- Bosses can be quite hard to beat (but hey most are too easy these days so maybe I got spoiled ;) - I'm guessing it will loose its edge if you have played it for a couple of weeks.
