Summary
[Xbox Live Arcade] Roogoo updates the square peg in a round hole premise to a whole new level. Help the Roogoo defeat their enemies, the evil Meemoo, in Roogoo, a new and innovative action-based puzzler. Players line up multiple platforms on different levels to allow shaped blocks to pass through and once enough of them stack up, that particular shape closes off. A simple premise becomes more complicated as Meemoos begin to obstruct players' paths, and butterflies attempt to steal blocks away. Players must swivel, roll, and boost their way through 45 puzzle-filled levels alone or with up to four friends in cooperative party mode play. For those with a more competitive spirit, Roogoo offers a two-player multiplayer mode over Xbox Live where players battle to solve the same puzzle and can build up attacks to thwart their competitors' efforts. Roogoo is simply delightful. Its bright and cheery art style, adorably cute characters, and challenging play make this one of my favorite XBLA titles to date.

It does a good job of keeping the gameplay fresh and increasingly challenging throughout the 45 stages. Couple that with the multiplayer content and Roogoo’s package is enough to justify the 800 Microsoft Point expenditure.

If you like puzzle games that require quick reflexes as well as mental acuity, then Roogoo is definitely for you. Honestly, I think the whole cutesy setting is an add on to keep you from getting too furious at the game.

It’s Different, pleasant, fun and one more reason to purchase those gamer points.

If you are a hardcore fan of puzzle games do not let Roogoo's cutesy demeanor throw you off. Underneath its kiddy exterior is a truly deep and engaging game that thrives on the idea that simplicity doesn't have to mean shallow.

It has enough cutesy charm to just about justify the admission price. [Issue#34, p.117]
Console Monster
Roogoo is an addictive puzzle game with very simple controls and enjoyable multiplayer.

Roogoo won't tax your brain with its puzzles, but it's certainly satisfying to play and offers a good, reaction-based challenge.

It's a fiendishly fast-paced puzzler. Beneath the gentle pastel exterior lurks the heart of a beast.

Roogoo is a treat for anyone with a penchant for puzzlers. And be sure to try the Party Play mode with three pals - it’s a competitive/cooperative hybrid that’ll have you blaming each other for your failures while laughing the whole time.

Because you rarely see the same thing twice, the game will be frustrating for some. Gamers are used to seeing patterns in puzzle titles and there aren't many here, but that's what makes Roogoo so addictive, and with 45 levels, a game with high replay value.

By the time you work out it's frutrating as hell, you're already hooked. [Sept 2008, p.84]

Most puzzle games wish they could bring out that “just one more stage” mentality in its players and fail. This is something that Roogoo succeeds in and does so quite heavily.

Roogoo is one of those games you need to be either on drugs or a zen master to truly appreciate, but regardless, many will find it addictive and possibly infuriating in a cute kind of way.

Well designed and addictive. [Aug 2008, p.95]
Jolt Online Gaming UK
Roogoo is a strange creature, combining cutesy childlike design and whimsical story with fiendish gameplay and a steep challenge curve. Stripping away the fluffy exterior reveals a meaty core that will satisfy even the healthiest of gaming appetite for the time it will take to finish.

Even though this game utterly fails at attempting to appeal to most gamers, Roogoo is still one of the best puzzle games that I've played in a long time.

Roogoo is a good match for puzzle enthusiasts looking for a challenge.

Roogoo's visuals are cute and the concept is simple, but this fast-paced game of quick reflexes is surprisingly fun and challenging.

It’s cute, but there is not much here to keep you going back unless you just love the gameplay itself. No unlocks, no customization, no secrets, not much to keep me coming back and back.

A significant break from the torrent of recent Xbox Live Arcade shovelware. [Aug 2008, p.113]
Xbox World 360 Magazine UK
A decent puzzler with a theme so sickly sweet you'll spit out your teeth in disgust. And why not? [Sept 2008, p.97]

Reggie W. gave it a10:
This is a flipping fun game. Once you get past your first impression there is one of hell of a game there.
Kane W. gave it a9:
Very fun, original game. Don't let the kiddie exterior throw you, this is great puzzle game!
HW gave it a10:
I thought it was simply wonderful. Even after you beat it, you can play it again and again due to the fact that the patterns are random (like Tetris). Great multiplayer too. Buy!
David K gave it a2:
Only one of the most boring arcade games, ever, not very puzzling, more like a toddlers shape training game than a game, not worth of 800 points.
Jonathan L. gave it a9:
Very enjoyable game - simple but addicting. I especially like competing for par times, which makes me enjoy replaying levels I've already beaten.
Gio D. gave it an8:
SouthPeak actually did it. They managed to publish a game that is not complete and total ****. The ONLY decent game they ever published was Scurge:Hive for the DS/GBA and now you can add the very addicting (not to mention incredibly cutesy) RooGoo. The point of RooGoo is that you have these falling shapes that come from the sky and you have to twist and turn these circular spheres that are in the way so that the shapes can make it to the bottom of the level. Starts simple at first (as do all puzzle games), but of ofcourse it gets much MUCH harder, as they start to throw obsticals in the way. Graphics are simple, though they are nice and colorful, while the music is very catchy and fits in with the overall atmosphere of the game. Multiplayer online is also very fun as you can do many different type of puzzle mode/levels. Definately woth the 800 points. Southpeak i salute you. It's about F@#KING time you published something thats actaully worth the money.
