[Xbox Live Arcade] In addition to several offline modes and numerous leaderboards and achievements, the game takes advantage of the new online features of the Xbox 360's powerful processing capabilities to create a seamless online multiplayer experience. Among several online game options is an exclusive mode called "Quarter Match", which introduces a new way of reliving the exhilarating arcade experience at home. Xbox 360 users can connect to the Xbox Live online game service and access Xbox Live Arcade to download a free, feature-limited version of the game which offers two playable characters for one match. When they are ready for the ultimate retro gaming experience, users can then unlock the full version of the game, enabling players to choose from all eight original characters as well as four boss characters, each with their own special endings and home levels. It's a perfect blend of easy, moderate and hard achievements - every gamer can get some of these, but it takes real effort to get them all. Great job, Capcom!

Another very cool and nostalgic online treat is the Quarter Match mode that allows players to relive the days of lining up quarters waiting to take on the winner of any match in “I got next” style competition. The online lobby displays a coin/icon for each player along with their Gamertag and the order in which they are in line to play.

Capcom's done a sweet job of porting a coin-op legend, and Hyper Fighting is officially one of our favorite Live Arcade games. [Oct. 2006, p.83]

The controls are iffy at best. The d-pad on the Xbox 360 controller isn’t suited for 2d gaming. It’s definitely harder to perform Ryu’s fireballs, Sagat’s leaping uppercut, and Guile’s sonic boom with the d-pad that is offered.

And that's the main reason to buy it: to simulate the exhilarating competitive spirit found in the arcades and to play against different people from all parts of the world -- all without ever leaving the comfort of your own home.

A perfect addition to the Xbox Live Arcade library. The game faithfully recreates one of the all-time greats while adding new features to make it fit in with the new console.

A near-perfect port of the arcade game many of us were born into. The controls and diffculty will take a little getting used to, but the experience is unrivaled in both its nostalgia and its excellence as a port.

It's not worth getting for single-player. The AI is broken in a way that it will react and counter your moves by having the instant reaction times only an unthinking machine can have. [Issue #7, p.120]

It’s still fun after all these years and plays better than many fancy 3D fighters that could be named. It is well worth the small cost.

There is no other fighting game that has the history that Street Fighter does and now you can still enjoy the old school arcade feeling on your brand spanking' new Xbox 360.

Even without a next-gen audio or video upgrade, Street Fighter remains as fun as ever and continues to stand the test of time, reminding us why we fell in love with the game in the first place. And yes, Blanka is still cheap.

The Xbox Live support is certainly the main draw, and that also makes it somewhat disappointing that there are some issues with its implementation.

For those who are jonesing for some classic Ryu-Ken action, I've got to say that overall I think that past ports of similar Street Fighter titles on the Xbox and PS2 were better overall, but few of those have online play, and there probably aren't any players left in those versions' online modes anyway.

It’s an old-school brawler with all the right moves and players despite the awkward 360 controller scheme and the seriously flawed online multiplayer mode. Really, consider this $10 or 800 points well spent.

Even if you don't like Hyper Fighting, one can justify the purchase just because it will help convince Capcom to bring better stuff, perhaps stuff like Super Street Fighter II Turbo and Street Fighter Alpha 2, to the Live Arcade service.

Few games from the early '90s stand up this well today and although there are obviously better fighters out there, an enhanced classic for less than the price of a cinema ticket is a bargain in anyone's book.

You will find yourself fighting the controls never really finding a comfort zone. Once you manage to work within the limitations of the controller, you will find the second exception. The online play is a bit laggy and unstable.

The disappointment with Street Fighter 2: Hyper Fighting, is that despite the delays, despite the additional time they had to get this game out and right, the online mode (quarter match in particular) has some fundamental flaws which stops it from being the quintessential Xbox Live Arcade title.

So, let's sum up: lag so frustrating you want to gouge your eyes out with a spoon, tiresome deliberate disconnections that make a mockery of the ranking system, and a d-pad designed to make you jump around the screen like some deranged monkey on speed. Not particularly positive.

James F. gave it a3:
Very poor port indeed, 360 controller does nothing for the combo system, lag makes a joke out the 'Hyper' inclusion. Once you do get a decent match without lag there is no sure fire way of having a re-match against that player. All this just takes too much away from classic street fighter for me that I spent so many years wasting 20p bits on down the local arcade, unless you want to be very frustrated by its many flaws stay well away. Poor show Capcom.

Mat C. gave it a2:
Poor port. Single player is insanely difficult, and multiplayer is laggy and annoying. 2 since it looks pretty accurate from the original. Otherwise, it's a waste of what could have been a cool game.

Chip L. gave it a1:
This game was ported terribly. The Capcom classic collection for regular x-box was much more true to the feel of the original. The controls in this version feel slugish and unresponsive. Playing on x-box live is VERY laggy. Definately not worth $10.

Adam J. gave it an8:
The computer is cheap, but no more cheap than I remember the original console ports to the SNES and Genesis being. The online play is great but you have to deal with the regular mix of nice people & racist/immature people that get mad if they lose. Beating people on this game could drop your XBL approval rating something fierce as there is an immediate option to leave a review of the person you just played after the match. The controls also don't port over to the x-box controller as well as they did the SNES & Genesis controllers. Moves that require a rotation of the analog stick or D-pad such as Ryu's fireball can frustrating to pull off, especially in a tight spot. But, quite frankly, it's Street Fighter! Online!!! And that's a blast. If you want a walk down memory lane, I highly suggest this title.

David gave it an8:
Good port of a timeless classic. the xbox live multiplayer is great aside from the losers that refuse to play for fear of losing rating points. the single player however, is ridiculously flawed...the AI is just too difficult. even the most seasoned SF2 veteran will be pulling thier hair out in rage when facing the cold cheap ruthlessly hard computer. a great addition to XBLA. just make sure you have a gold account or friends to play against as the singleplayer game is the single most frustrating gaming experience in years.

Nicholas S. gave it a9:
all and all a great game. This port is top notch. I would have given it a 10 , but having to stretch the screen to 16.9 my self hurts. I was hoping they would have scaled it more 16.9. Oh well still a great game.

[Anonymous] gave it a10:
This is the best Street Fighter ever made . I just hope their is an option to turn the music off .
