Summary

Stuntman: Ignition is the next installment in the Stuntman franchise. The game plunges gamers into the adrenaline-fueled role of a Hollywood stunt driver, challenging them to pull off the most breathtaking, death-defying stunts ever filmed. Players showcase their skills in a wide variety of big-budget action films, commercial shoots and tournaments while commanding more than 25 unique vehicles, including exotic sports cars, motorcycles and hovercraft. Online multiplayer allows rival stuntmen to battle it out on the film sets and custom built back-lot arenas, or players can devise their own insane stunt runs and challenge other stuntmen at their own game. GameShark

Stuntman: Ignition will induce some controller-tossing moments, but the action is so intense and fun, it's hard not to want to do that "one more take." It's thrilling, maddening, and addicting all at the same time.

Stuntman: Ignition is a great game for fans of the automotive genre. But it makes itself very accessible for those who may not pride themselves on their excellent driving skills or incredibly precise gaming.

THQ and Paradigm have taken an already white-knuckle ride and added the features that were conspicuously absent the first time around. However, this game earns its stripes by letting players have more of a hand in creating their own style of mayhem to spice up a scene, and trust me, you’ll take every opportunity you can get.

What it lacks in overall content it makes up for by having damned enjoyable and addictive gameplay and enough variations on a theme for the game to last much longer than the four or so hours it takes to complete the main mode.

Worth Playing

A great follow-up to the fun, albeit challenging, game. You'll have to deal with some pretty frustrating moments and some spotty control, but if you bear with it, you'll find a truly enjoyable experience.

There's absolutely no getting away from the fact that Stuntman: Ignition is often an infuriating game, but that doesn't automatically make it a bad one. At times it feels as rigid as an old-fashioned school cane, but perseverance will reveal a highly rewarding experience.

The repetition may test your ability to keep your controller from flying across the room but the patience pays off when you finish that hard-ass scene without one strike against you, and the director comes up tossing smiles and praises your way.

But Stuntman really shines at parties, where over excited and likely intoxicated friends all want a crack at busting through the floating house and splitting police cars.

It's probably a game best played in small doses, as the relentless pursuit of perfection can often wear you out. But if you inner Evel Knievel just yearns to be free, Stuntman's your ticket. [Sept 2007, p.78]

Super, big and awesome (to quote one of the film directors), Stuntman: Ignition is one of the most original driving games around, packed full of explosive fun and action.

Some of you might also grumble about how little innovation there is in this sequel. In most senses, yes, this is a straightforward re-run of the last one. In its favour, though, it boasts vastly superior visuals, instant restarts, an achievement system, and, of course, an online components like a leaderboard, uploadable replays and multiplayer modes.

In the end, this is the same kind of game as the original. It's much more polished and rewarding to play, but it still requires a lot of trial-and-error and quick reflexes.

What makes Stuntman great is the sum of all of its parts. While the career mode would have been great for a cheaper title all of the additional stuff such as odd-jobs, construction mode, and of course online play make this package worth checking out for fans of driving games looking for something unique in the genre.

Stuntman: Ignition isn't for everyone, and even enthusiastic wannabe performers will occasionally cry out in frustration if they play for too long at a stretch, but it's still as good an execution of this offbeat concept as you're ever likely to see, and a welcome online departure from straight-laced racing purism.

While there's no denying it looks great and there's huge fun to be had with it at least to start with, there will be those that fall in love with its ultra repetitive just-one-more-go high score setting nature while others will find the need for such continual repetition too off putting enough on its own.

Stuntman: Ignition would benefit from a more style substance, and its methods start to run a bit thin, but that doesn't keep it from hitting an acceptable summer-blockbuster-style mark. [Sept 2007, p.77]

Strong in concept and weak in execution. It's a trip to be able to work your way up the ranks, but it's far too repetitious and difficult and it could have been a lot more enjoyable.

Stuntman Ignition, sticks to the same formula while improving the only bad thing about the original and should be at least tried by anyone that isn’t afraid of a little trial and error. It’s just a shame that it won’t appeal to everyone and is let down by its poor graphics and repetitive nature.

Ciaran G. gave it an8:
This game is a lot of fun and the career mode is quite lengthy, without becoming repetitive or boring at any point. The map editor, extra challenges and online play also extend the life of the game whilst offering something a little different. The graphics aren't top notch and sometimes the game can feel as though it was targeted towards younger teens and kids but I'd still recommend this game.

Adam W. gave it a9:
This is a thoroughly enjoyable game. Failure never seems to be a punishment, instead it makes you want to play the game more. All the missions are totally original and the stunt creator is a great addition. The multiplayer mode is extremley fun especially when you steal the other players stunt strings. The only problems are the lack of that many good cars in the multiplayer and the fact that hardly anyone plays it online anymore.

Boby L. gave it a7:
There is something strange about enjoying a game which is derived from someone telling you exactly what you should be doing. being a stunt driver for movies obviously makes sense to listen to your director, but the amount of freedom and choice making is so little that it turns the player into a kind of vegas slot machine...all you can do is keep trying and hope for the best. and just like it happens in vegas, this automation proves to be extremely adictive. im not going to make a comment on either that being good or bad, but if any next-gen product has the daunting task of sitting next to other new amazing games on the shelf such as halo3 and bioshock and assasins creed and dirt and skate and many others...i would expect more from it, and so should the people who make it. it should not just compete with driving games or action games, it should compete with everything. because games are expensive. if im going to get 5 games this holliday...stuntman just cant cut the list...for it to do so, it needs to have a robust driving engine, multiple views such as a fully rendered cocpit view (pgr4), realistic hollywood set locations, better graphics, better chosen simulation settings such as car types and upgrades and weather effects, ability to create our own films, rich career mode, player customization, free ride mode and a larger world in which you have the freedom to "create" your own stunts to be used in films. not just as an add on sorry excuse for a "stunt park editor". all this is too much you say?...look at anyother top next-gen title in any genre and make me a liar. its sad really...how developers rarely go the distance. great ideas such as these fizzle away into the void. whats even worse is, now these guys are doing "stunt" games...so other developers are steering away from the genre just because someone has allready tackled it, since its a pretty focused genre. i would want to see codemasters do a stunt driving game for example...but its not going to happen, for the above reason.

Shawn O. gave it an8:
From reading some of the reviews, that maybe there not old enough to apreciate old school gaming. This is a fun game, but its a hard game. It requires near perfection, to move from level to level. I really enjoyed the challenge.

Anth B. gave it a2:
This is by far the worst retail game I have played for the XBOX 360. The game is simply no fun and consists of reloading the same level over and over in an attempt to complete a series of last-second stunts. Thinking it would get better at some point, I played through every movie and side job and cannot remember a single moment where I enjoyed the experience. The game is for pure sadists with the patience of an old cat. If you feel you MUST play this game, I highly recommend a rental.

Stevie B. gave it a9:
This game is great. if youve played the first stuntman game it is not much different to it. there is not really any new features but what it does do it does great. the gameplay is great, the graphics are great, the sound is exellent with a stunt coordinator guiding you through the stages and tottaly different director for each movie. all the movies are really witty and the game itself has a sence of humour. there is also the stunt arena maker which is awesome and much improved from the last stuntman. this game should be an annual game like need for speed and fifa. this would of been a perfect ten if it came out alot sooner. bring on stuntman 3! . . . . . dont count on it though.

Stéphane J. gave it a9:
Very pleasant experience, it's a driving game with a choreographic twist... I enjoy it a lot (although it probably is a bit short).
