"Our goal was to create a game that is perfectly addictive in its focused simplicity, a game that showcases the true possibilities of a next gen experience, not just in looks but in feel and pace," stated Sam Houser, Founder and Executive Producer of Rockstar Games. "We wanted to use the power of the new hardware and the resolution of new televisions to give the game an immediacy, an intensity and a sense of physicality and reality, resulting in a purer, more visceral experience that simply was not possible previously." Houser continued, "It is a distillation of game design philosophy, focusing on removing the traditional areas of compromise inherent in managing size and scope and concentrating the hardware's entire power on one activity, with the aim of doing that better than it's ever been done before." There isn't an annoying or bewildering array of modes because Rockstar had a single-minded ambition to create a game you play with your mates. Play the training modules if you like, but you won't need them. It's that good.

Presentation-wise, I think you’ll find a good amount to like here. The sound effects are spot-on, including the way the ball-to-paddle tone will vastly diverge for dramatic effect during a high-count rally. The visuals are a tad on the shiny and plastic look, but nevertheless they’re very well done, with superb lighting, texturing, and animations. Not much to complain about here.

The game really shines in multiplayer, where the variety in play styles means that every match is different and challenging. Matt F. gave it a6:
A good title. Great physics and realism and a very accurate rendering of table tennis. Fantastic to play with you mates at parties, and sometimes good fun on your own. But be aware, this game won't keep you occupied for long. Well worth picking up for £8 at Gamestation, though.

Red XIII gave it a6:
Fun, does just about everything a ping pong game can do, which leaves it very shallow, no depth. No career mode, no create a character, no other game modes except exhibition and tournaments (which are next to impossible to complete). Online is fun, but because this game does not have any depth, it wears off real soon. Graphics are nice, as well as sound, but just missing a little more diversity in game play, worth renting.

Jonathon H. gave it a10:
Best sports game ever, simple.

Mr. Review gave it a9:
Table Tennis is wicked fun. I respect Rockstar for offering us a title unlike anything they normally publish. If it to rebound from the controversy surrounding them, so be it. Table Tennis is insanely addictive. And I know what your thinking. Table Tennis seems like something "I" may enjoy, but it looks to simple and repetitive. Repetitve, maybe so. For I must say after a good amount of tournaments you become finished for a while. But it does not mean you will not come back, craving more of the addictive gameplay style which TT has to offer. A simple spin and smack of virtually any key will return your ball to the other court, for rallies going on for what seems like forever. The difficulty is fantastic, as beginners can jump right in and move up the ladder of succes to rival the all-star cup. for single players, do not expect much replay value after obtaining the host of unlockables, as the only true advantage is containing that little gen we called Xbox Live. TT is fun as hell, and can be enjoyed for years, as it seems. Though the enjoyment is only temporary for single plays, multiplayer excels and makes this an almost must buy for sports fans and multiplayer fans alike. So simplistic even grandma can enjoy in a match. it is the next gen Pong, and we should all adore it.

Reel World gave it a6:
Great graphics and somewhat fun gameplay. Lack of characters (or create-a-player) takes away from the replay value and in the end - it's ping pong for crying out loud....Worth a rent. Not worth the buy - even at $50 canadian.

[Anonymous] gave it a9:
Amazingly Addicting!

Vicky J. gave it a7:
Hmm its difficult to give a fair review of this game as i haven't really played many sports games. As a table tennis game it does exactly what it says on the tin but the lack of career mode does make the game a little limited. Even with the live options it only held my attention for a few games which isnt necessarily the result of a poor game its down to the people on live itself that limit its online potential. Basically there wasnt a game i actually wanted over June and id rather spend £30 on a game i dont want than £50, if its only for passing the time till something better comes out.
