Tekken 6 its still Tekken: deep gameplay, very amount of characters, new game modes including an inspired and funny Campaign Mode and, of course, Online support for 1vs1 battles. Did you like Tekken? you'll enjoy this one. Do you like fighting games? Ok, don't doubt it: this is your game.

It is slick in production, providing a lot of what one could reasonably ask for in a fighting game. The game is as accessible as ever, pretty to look at and arcade-perfect to a T.

By taking the best elements of the previous releases, blending them with borrowed features from the competition, and adding entirely new elements, we are now presented with a whole new experience, and the injection of longevity into a game that has expanded the boundaries of its genre. This is hours upon hours of fun and an absolute must-have for anybody who has ever enjoyed martial arts-based games.

Tekken is all about the multiplayer, especially if you play against a friend who knows the game well. The new fighters are bringing enough new material to learn and practice on you’re own. The functionalities around this aren’t that interesting. You can better leave the game alone if you’re not a multiplayer person. If you are a multiplayer person and you’re willing to put some hours into it, this game will be a pearl of a 3D fight game.

Tekken 6 might not be as rapid as something like the blink-and-you-die that Street Fighter has become, but it's fast enough to provide a challenge (especially for one without an arcade stick) and completely crush the causal button masher.

Currently, online is too inconsistent to be taken seriously. Without the quality online play, the Tekken community will have to take their battles offline, limiting the potential for community growth. And the small details Namco Bandai neglected hurts the overall experience. Tekken 6 is excellent, but with better netcode, it would have been outstanding.

Without doubt, Tekken 6 has convinced us. The gameplay is solid but perhaps this beloved saga would have deserved a stronger debut in the current generation. To lower the level, there's a far from exciting technical sector. In addition, the campaign mode is little more than an extra, making us wonder whether it was worth spending so many resources in implementation, thus neglecting other aspects, perhaps more important. Anyway, the title is certainly worth the purchase for all the fans of the series and of 3D beat'em ups.

By the end of the day though, Tekken 6 is a glossy treat that is easy to pick up and play against friends. Veterans will have the jump on the controls, but newcomers need not worry about facing them online as Tekken 6 has a quality match-making system in place where I have only faced off against opponents with similar skill levels.

Tekken 6 is still a quality fighter, from its straightforward and amusing gameplay to its rich presentation and huge roster. It falls short of Street Fighter IV, but it's still got enough power to knock you on your butt.

Veterans will still find the nuanced fighting system rewarding to master and, essentially, pixel perfect. But in a year destined to be remembered as the one that saw the resurgence of the fighting game, Tekken 6's star is too dull to shine brightest.

Tekken 6 is like the previous games, only with some badly thought-out new ideas. If you play Tekken 6 for the old, familiar modes, you’ll have the most complete and balanced game in the series. If you try out anything else, like the not so clever scenario-campaign, be prepared to be disappointed. The online-mode also has terrible lag at the moment of writing.

As it is Tekken 6 comes highly recommended to those who can play it regularly with friends, or to those that are prepared to wait to see if the soon-to-be-released patch really does sort out all of the online issues. This game looks old both graphically and for his gameplay. The Campaign mode is slow paced and looks boring after a couple of minutes, but it is necessary to play trough the entire story to unlock characters' videos and stories. The online experience is ruined by constant lag. If you LOVE Tekken, you'll like this game even for the offline multiplayer only, but other ways looks for a better beat'em up.

Game Revolution

Without a completely robust online mode and a decent but not remarkable improvement in graphics, Tekken 6 doesn’t take full advantage of being on the Xbox 360 and PS3. Both the Scenario Campaign and the final boss encourage players to dumb down their game with cheap moves in what should be a technical fighter. But otherwise, Tekken 6 still retains the same high-quality fighting engine, with an incredible and distinct character roster, that fans expect from the series, and collecting items in Scenario Campaign can be addicting.

Gaming Age

The Arcade mode and local 2P action is great, just what I expected from the game, and while the visuals could do with a little sprucing up in comparison to the arcade stuff I've seen, it's not that awful. Not quite as stylized as recent console fighters, but not bad enough that it put me off of having fun with the game. However, if you're going in for story/scenario mode and online play, neither is worth picking the game up for at the moment.

The awkward campaign mode would be completely forgettable if Tekken 6 worked better online. But with it ranging from "almost acceptable" to "pre-patch King of Fighters XII" in connection quality, it's hard to recommend to anyone who doesn't already have a local crew of Tekken fiends at their disposal.

What Our Users Said

Alex S gave it an8:
Tekken 6 is a well needed upgrade from Tekken 5: DR. The graphics make it the most visually appealing fighting game, and huge combo lists add to the play styles for each character. The bound system, is also a nice new addition, allowing players to make their old juggles much longer and more punishing. If your looking for a good fighter, I highly recommend Tekken 6. Just avoid the scenario campaign mode. It's easily the worst feature Tekken 6 has to offer.

Dylan T gave it a6:
There's nothing wrong with Tekken 6's gameplay per se. The "bound" system is a fresh addition; the characters shine on 1080P capable XBOX360 and PS3; and it's fun overall, but they botched the console port. Scenario campaign is the worst kind of filler; you can't rank up past 1st dan in Ghost Mode (which is what gave Tekken DR on the PSP most of its replay value); Arcade mode is an afterthought at best; and the ending cinematics are the dullest in the franchise. Rent, don't buy. For a balanced, fun fighting game, wait for Super Street Fighter IV.

David W gave it an8:
The story mode seems to have been hastily assembled and the graphics on it look very dated, but where Tekken 6 really shines is in all its other features, from the very robust online play, to the endlessly fun versus modes. In addition I have to say the physics on this game and the rendered animations are simply astounding. The hits look so real and feel real, especially in the end match slow-motion recaps. Its amazing. I've loved every minute of this game. I just wish story mode was better.

Mark O gave it a0:
I've played this game and all I can say about it is: "WHAT A PIECE OF CRAP!"; Unballanced fighters, crappy playability, pretty lame graphics, annoying and continuous cutscenes. Thats the worst fighting game I ever played on my 360; looks like an old pstwo game. If you have a 360 and you do like fighting games, don't buy this one; you have better choices.

Jason R gave it a9:
This game is Tekken perfection. I haven't taken it online yet, but I am more than happy with the content already provided to me. The Ghost Battles are endlessly entertaining, the Scenario Campaign is better than I thought it would be and is being unfairly bashed in my opinion. There is a metric ton of items to unlock, the fighting is just polished to perfection and the game is just overall massive fan service to long time Tekken players. If you have ever liked Tekken in the past, or just want a new fighter... get this game.
