Games Radar (in-house)
While some classic arcade games (like old episodes of the "Thundercats" cartoon) are more fit for reminiscence than actual play, Time Pilot proves that what was mind-blowingly awesome back in the day can still detonate brains just as well now.

Seriously, it really makes you feel like you're back in the arcades, listening to bad 80's music in a darkened coin-operated world with your friends watching you play as you take on the competition — it's amazing and truly brings back an experience I haven't felt in years.

While I would've liked to have seen a better realized multiplayer mode and more difficult achievements to unlock, the game remains a joy to play. The graphic and sound touch-ups are welcome as well, instead of just bothersome cosmetic additions.

Honestly, it's "Asteroids" with prettier, smarter rocks...and a hell of a lot more adrenaline. [Nov. 2006, p.78]
GameSpot
Despite its almost-famous face, Time Pilot is, and always has been, a great shooter. And Digital Eclipse's Xbox 360 version of the game showcases the original well, while also delivering one of the best graphical updates to hit Xbox Live Arcade so far.

Sound in the new game is pretty good but repetitive. It sounds like it always plays the same “explosion” .wav file over and over. Yawn. The original theme song is there but has been remastered.

I had more fun playing by myself, which is odd since I thought I would have loved the multiplayer.

A pretty good job porting the game, but if you don't get into this game for the sake of make a run at the top of the leaderboard, or if you're not a shooter aficionado, you're probably not going to be to enthralled by this game.

It's good fun while it lasts. [Issue 12, p.116]
Game Chronicles
Time Pilot was a decent game back in the day, but when it’s compared to stuff like Pac- Man and Galaga, it doesn’t have much in the way of legs.

Konami's shooter consists of a decent original port, an excellent new HD upgrade, and a substandard online mode, all comprising a cheap ($5) but un-compelling addition to the XBLA archives.

Considering the enhanced graphics actually make the game harder at times and the multiplayer feels like a lame plugin that is highly frustrating without a crisp network connection, this is just a well executed straight port of a 1982 game, and then I’d honestly recommend you spend your 400 Microsoft Points on the more than excellent Geometry Wars if you want a multidirectional shooter.

It's the sort of bland shooter that if you tried it on MAME you'd barely give it a second look - so why does anyone think that gamers will part with 400 points for it? Sometimes the past is better off left alone.

Aged, dated, decrepit and repetitive! [Nov 2006, p.107]

Andyman gave it an8:
Finally! A Live Arcade game from the old arcade days that retains all of the tight gameplay of the original, while adding some new twists to keep things fresh. Time Pilot is also tailor-made for the 360's analog stick, with a feel as close to the original coin-op as I've played outside an arcade. I'm knocking it 2 points because the Enhanced mode's graphics actually make the game more difficult, due to the cluttered background. Even so... nicely done, Digital Eclipse! Bandai Namco, are you taking notes?
