Summary

2011 - 2014. The world enjoys an unprecedented era of peace as enhanced defense technology eliminates the threat of nuclear war. But can it last? 2020. Constant depletion of resources has international tensions at a breaking point. One spark will ignite what no one thought could happen...a third and final world war. Strategy for the next generation: Led by creative director Michael de Plater (Rome Total War), EndWar promises to redefine strategy gaming. Designed for next-gen consoles EndWar creates a theatre of war, immersing you in the drama of World War III in a way you never thought possible. Fight For Your Nation: Pick a side US, Europe, Russia - the fate of the world is in your hands. If you don't step in to save your homeland, who will? Command Your Army: Grow your army into the most powerful force on the planet. Your army is completely customizable, and experience breeds strength - your units grow more powerful with every campaign you fight. Light Up The City of Lights: Tom Clancy's World War III won't be won by capturing remote deserts or grasslands but by striking countries in the heart. Paris, Moscow, Washington D.C. will all erupt in flames as you battle your way through the fully destructive playground. A Whole New Kind of Massive: EndWar is an online multiplayer experience unlike anything you've ever encountered. 16 player matchups? Try hundreds. 30 minute battles? Try persistent matchups lasting for months at a time. This isn't a skirmish, it's World War III. Talk Your Way to Victory: Put the controller aside and start shouting commands. EndWar can be played almost entirely via voice command. [Ubisoft]

With a completely new way to play a Real Time Strategy game and some excellent multiplayer gaming this is one game that is a must buy for strategy fans of any type. If it was not for a few minor issues with the game such as nothing south of the equator and a lack of a cool looking single player campaign presentation wise (it is a great campaign to play though) this would be one of the top 10 played games on Xbox Live for many months.

Worth Playing

As a game, it is rather fun, although a bit simplistic, and its real strength lies in its online, not offline play. The persistent online EndWar will keep players busy for much longer than the single-player campaign, and the fun of trying to stop a Russian invasion or to take over Washington, D.C., is significantly higher when you know that the enemy commander who you just stomped is a real person.

Great graphics and a true sense of an epic global conflict make this one of the best RTS titles to arrive on any console. EndWar is all about its voice command system. Fantastically implemented with very few flaws, but you kind of get the feeling that underneath it all, the game is very shallow and relies on that to set it free. Nevertheless, the voice command system is present and it's one of the best innovations and implementations in a game for some time and surely this could become a staple in future titles; both Clancy and otherwise.

Calling EndWar shallow would be unfair — streamlined would be a far better descriptor. Unit detail and animation is intricate, and stacks of research went into concocting the sleek weapon systems of 2020AD. Each skirmish is brutally acted out before your eyes, but these animations are the icing, not the cake. For you are not a soldier — you are a general. Once you get into the mindset of a commanding officer, EndWar takes on a life of its own.

EndWar is probably the best attempt at a RTS on consoles, while it’s far from perfect Ubisoft has managed to find a way to allow you to command an army in short but explosive battles - which should suit most console owners. It's the most accessible strategy game we've played on the 360. The downside of all this user-friendliness though, is that EndWar's not particularly challenging. Ubisoft Shanghai lets us become a full-fledged commander. Thanks to our headset, in EndWar we can give orders to our troops just with our voice. A great gameplay that, unfortunately, is not great technically and it's very online-driven. Good ideas, but not very well used.

EndWar gets a lot of things right: a beautifully slick interface, stripped down mechanics, and the best voice-recognition system of any game we've played. It's got plenty to offer armchair strategists, but balancing issues, pathfinding and AI niggles and a disappointing lack of variety in factions stop it just short of its obvious potential.

The voice command system in EndWar is terrific, and hopefully, future games will take advantage of a similar control scheme. It just isn't enough by itself to raise the game beyond "mediocre RTS." It's definitely worth checking out to see voice command done right, but overall, it lacks the depth and substance to bring anyone over from superior PC alternatives.

Chris L gave it a10:
I played the demo of this game, then i got the real version. The real version is way more fun than the demo, the voice command system works, really well. I played 1 round for a friend of mine, and he immediatly decided to play it. This is not how you do an RTS on a console, this is how you do any RTS.

Alex C gave it a9:
I just got the game and have already beaten half of it, and i can tell you it does deserve atleast a 5. The gameplay is just astounding, especially because there are few of its kind, strategy games on consoles, and yet it is almost as easy to use as PC strategy games. I give it a 9/10. The only thing i dont like about it is how long it takes to do some things, like moving from place to place and how long it takes to get more units. All in all, i recommend it to everyone who likes real-time strategy games. And if you dont like them, i still recommend it!

Niko K. gave it a2:
What's so special about this game? Did it bring anything new to Real Time Strategy -games, but voice-command? Only thing why people bother voting over 4, is because they don't accept the fact that they spent over 60 € to this piece of garbage.

Matthew C. gave it a10:
Very good game, the voice-command system is a wonder in itself. Online play is by far better then the single player campaign is worth the cost of xbox live each month.

David C. gave it an8:
Great theme, great vision, but the game play just isnt that fun. The voice commands work really well, but the gameplay is very slow. I guess playing on the pc would have been better

Samuel S. gave it an8:
This game is efficient, no doubt about it. The biggest problem that I've had with RTS games is that, if I am to be completely honest, I absolutely hate mining. I want to play a game, not wait around for it to play itself. The appeal of the RTS genre for me has been that I get to play army-men outside of a sandbox. Really, I just want to blow stuff up, and I want to blow it up faster than the other guy. This game provides that, with voice-recognition that is scary in its accuracy (yes, it will misinterpret orders from time to time). Also, online is fun. Having a persistent war, with each day set as a turn, gives a sense that you are a commander in a larger conflict. I would definitely recommend this game to anyone interested in a glimpse at true next-gen RTS.

Cland E. gave it a9:
Easily the most cinematic of all the Tom Clancy games, including its approach to plot as it unfolds depending on which faction you choose and how you play online. The way the gameplay unfolds is unique: Tom Clancy RTS is a new way of approaching gaming in my opinion, and the WW3 concept is pretty intriqing in how Ubisoft has taken it on.
