Summary

Tom Clancy's Rainbow Six Vegas 2 is your last chance to rescue America's sexiest city from an escalating terrorist siege that will force you into heart-pounding action from beginning to end. Sin City is back and bigger than before. Explore all new Vegas hot spots as the environment changes from dusk to bright daylight to dawn, creating a visual experience that is as challenging as it is breathtaking. The multiplayer mode in Tom Clancy's Rainbow Six Vegas has been upgraded to include 11 new, smaller maps that force more intense face-offs, 2 new adversarial modes, more rewards, and easier access to matches using the improved and intuitive matchmaking system. Create your own identity that stays the same in both single player and multiplayer modes and progresses as you do. Reap the benefits of your single player rewards in multiplayer and vice versa. Turn single player mode into co-op mode at any time, just by jumping into the game. Now your friend can jump into your single player game and help you without any change to the story. Single player maps and storyline were created with co-op in mind, which means every map has multiple entry points and the story is the same. AI is more challenging than ever. Now, the terrorists are equipped with thermal vision, night vision, and shields – not to mention a multitude of varying reactions – all of which are guaranteed to give you a new playing experience every time you go into battle. As you progress within the game, you'll only be able to outsmart your enemies by taking advantage of intel opportunities, such as thermal scanning, and tactical strategies, such as leapfrogging. Take down the terrorists more effectively using 11 new weapons. New camouflage, clothing and gear allow you to take customization to the next level. [Ubisoft]

A considerable improvement over its already fantastic predecessor. The addition of customization options to the single player game - and allowing that progress to transfer over to all of the other gameplay modes - is by far the best enhancement, while the beefed up AI is as impressive as we'd hoped and the refined co-op play offers a great range of options.

A hell of a package. It's sort of a shame that so much of it is recycled from the last game, but nobody stops eating their favorite food because it's similar every time - and this is the Kobe beef of tactical FPS. [Apr 2008, p.80]

Though a great overall package that packs a lot value, Vegas 2 is probably best characterized as a glorious example of fan service. Though not necessary, familiarity with the previous game adds tremendously to the overall experience, and many of the enhancements are direct responses to the very vocal and passionate community that plays online regularly.

Best of all, the experience points and ACES rankings you earn are reflected offline and online, so your customized character always reflects your progress, skill, and accumulated weapons. On the surface, there is nothing terribly magic or new about this feature, but these rewards are handled and presented extremely well and their pervasiveness provides a feeling of accomplishment as well as a compelling reason to play all segments of the game.

Rainbow Six: Vegas 2 is just like a hot dog. It doesn't have to change in order to be tasty. Ubisoft has put on a great sauce with the A.C.E.S.-system, objects you can shoot through, and a great cooperative mode. And believe us it will be the best hot dog you ever tasted.

The multiplayer is disappointing due to the sloppy netcode, making the game primarily a single player or co-op campaign experience (two players only this time, though.) Rainbow Six Vegas 2 is more than an add-on, but doesn't feel like a sequel either. The scenarios are similar, and the gameplay mechanics are practically identical. Enough ranting, though: In this game you can control your Alter Ego perfectly, the team commands work well and the scripting is well written. The difficulty levels are designed to give starters and pros a real challenge and keeps you glued to the screen for hours. Extra praise has to be given to the camera feature that lets you include your face into the game. Those who can live without innovations should make their way to Vegas again. It's worth the way.

Fred O. gave it a10:
Tac shooter bliss. A perfect blend of tactical shooter and pure action, this game transcends the high mark set by Vegas 1. I love how you have to plan your actions and be careful but you don’t have a whole lot of micromanagement the way some tac shooters do. There is just enough to keep me interested without overwhelming me with too many choices that change too little to be very effective anyway. A deep, gritty story and ease of use controls makes this a pure winner in my book.

MikeDC gave it a9:
How do people give things a ZERO or a ONE? If you haven't played the game for hours don't F'in rate it. Anyway, the first one was fantastic and this is pretty much the same game..sooo...yes its fantastic! Not quite a "true sequel" but you can not rate it down heavily because it "didnt do anything new" or "is more of the same"! More of the same = awesome! (and why don't all you REAL gamers play it on realistic, thats the ONLY way to play. I beat the first one on realistic and now I'm doing number 2 on realistic!)

Scott G. gave it a2:
The multiplayer is third rate, in my opinion. The matchmaking is a self-selected host, lobby-based system (as opposed to Halo and COD's party-based system). This would be forgiveable if it actually worked. However, you can only play one game! That's right. You go to the server filter, enter your search criteria, find a game that you like, click join, load, you're in the lobby, wait for it to fill up, wait for the host to launch, game starts, game over, repeat that whole process over again. It's very difficult to play with the same group more than once. You can re-search for the same host. That obviously has it's drawbacks. This isn't just a step behind party-based matchmaking, it's a step behind the original Xbox Rainbow Six 3 from 5 years ago! I've also had issues with connectivity, ie lag.

Kevin M. gave it a9:
better then vegas 1 they changed almost all the things wrong with 1 A.I is a lot smarter on both sides. want to play realistic set your a.i to follow and let them work they will get more kills then you hows that for realistic. you mite get made as they have all the fun!

Larry V. gave it a10:
Smooth performance, fierce gameplay. For such a graphically rich game with plenty of moments where a lot of people, gunfire and explosions are onscreen at once this game runs silky smooth. Whether you are in campaign or multiplayer, the game has very little trouble keeping up. There are very few moments when the game’s frame rate seems to drop (how DO you measure frame rate on a console anyway?). The game itself is a ton of fun and seriously intense. There are plenty of white-knuckled moments to keep you on the edge of your seat.

Nick gave it a9:
Very happy they did not change much from its predecessor. Finally a Developer which is thinking about the whole picture; adding level ups for everything in the game, Yay! I would give it a 10 but I was expecting more apparel to be added. The single player is much more interesting than before too.

Wardieboy gave it a3:
I was hoping for at least some improved graphics in this game but I am really disappointed. After playing COD4 this feels like a big step backwards. It is just more of the same and it should have been released as an expansion pack. Rather than pushing out a FPS game every six months (GRAW & R6V) Ubisoft should focus on quality and not quantity. W e are not sony fanboys after all.
