Hardcore Gamer Magazine
It's a unique experiment with a lot of depth for those willing to donate the time. [Vol 3, Issue 2, p.64]
Pelit (Finland)
A game like no other and a surprise release to see outside of Japan. It is a mixture of a 2D shoot 'em up and a fighting game with mechas. The fighting system is complex, but once the initial confusion wears off real depth is found. Two player games are great fun. [Oct 2007]
Xbox World 360 Magazine UK
Simply, one of the most fun games on 360. Defy those who say it won't sell! [Aug 2007, p.74]
Eurogamer
Most importantly, it's got that utterly absorbing hypnotic je ne sais quois that all the best games have, and it's that which will keep you coming back for more and more, checking out all the characters and all the play modes, and devoting an unhealthy amount of time in the quest for dominating other players, both online and off.

Anyone willing to immerse themselves in the wonder that is WarTech: Senko No Ronde’s complex and varied gameplay mechanics will feel that the price is perfectly justified. [July 2007, p.114]
Game Over Online
While it suffers from some crippling camera problems at times, has text that is difficult to read without an HDTV, and has quite possibly the most nonsensical plot I’ve ever encountered in a game, Wartech Sekno no Ronde is an incredibly fun game despite its problems.

Anyone prepared to look beyond the candy colourings and initially floaty controls will discover a game of real depth and precision. [July 2007, p.90]
X360 Magazine UK
It's fun while it lasts, but you'll complete it quickly. [Issue 21, p.90]
Gamestyle
Where WarTech manages to slip up is that it will leave you wanting more. Whether you want to beat that high score or take on new opponents, there is always a new barometer available. Yes, there is a degree of slow down when the screen becomes cluttered or during close combat, but nothing that really hampers the bouts.

It's not perfect, and the limited amount of characters will quickly grow tiresome to some, but those who really enjoy the bullet wave-filled combat will enjoy testing out their skills online.

The transition to console has worked well and will no doubt garner some new fans; so in this respect the game does well. However will limited appeal outside of Japan I think a lot of gamers will overlook this game and then miss out on something quite unique.

The graphics and sound don't do much presentation-wise, but the game play rewards gamers nonetheless. Sadly, the lack of four-player shoot-outs positions WarTech primarily as a rental -- until it reaches the more reasonable $20-$40 range.

Different and very Japanese - it will no doubt get a cult following online. [July 2007, p.78]
PALGN
Wartech: Senko no Ronde is a hard game to recommend to everyone due to its sheer lack of content but fans of this rare and dying genre should definitely check it out.

It is not all that bad a game overall. But the simple fact that it carries the full purchase price compels us to judge it against other full-priced titles, and it that case it just doesn’t make the cut.

It's the ultimate game for, like, 10 people out there, and they'll love it like monkeys love bananas. [Aug 2007, p.74]
Cheat Code Central
The game is unable to compare to similar mech-bot games, and is further grounded from its aerial pursuit by the enormous price being asked for such a so-so game.

WarTech: Senko Ronde is most certainly a niche game, and fans of the genre will definitely take to its manic style. But it's hard to rationalize spending $60 for an arcade experience that's short on content and repetitive.

An over-priced arcade port with some neat ideas that don't translate into satisfying gameplay.
WarTech: Senko no Ronde feels incoherent and out of place. The arcade shooter concept that it is built upon is sound but the follow-through just isn't there.
An interesting cross between a shooter and fighter that is let down by a strange storyline that contradicts itself as often as not and is woefully short of options to hold your interest.

Perhaps the biggest issue with the game from a hardcore perspective is a lack of precision. With many weapons, you only have a small amount of control over where you can fire -- at your opponent, just to the left of them, or just to the right.

Senko No Ronde can be amazing to watch, but it simply doesn’t make enough effort to make itself intelligible to a Western audience and there’s not enough variety in the gameplay, despite the selection of combatants. We can see the parallels with rounders immediately.

Whatever the reason of my blind faith in the Japanese market, WarTech let me down and it’s an utter shame.

If the game had shipped through Microsoft’s Arcade service for perhaps 800 pts (ten bucks) then I could easily recommend a purchase. As it stands selling this game at the full price tag of $60 and not even offering it as a budget title for $40 or better yet $20 this game simply isn’t worth your time or your money.

As a fan of both shooters and fighters, I dig the shooter-fighter mashup concept--it's just a shame that it really doesn't work as well as you'd imagine. [July 2007, p.89]
Gaming Age
If you're looking for something different to pass the time, I could suggest you try and rent this one. There's no way in hell I'd pay full price for it though.

None of the quirks and flaws in the game would have been quite so damning if it weren’t for UbiSoft’s insane decision to release WarTech at the full $60 price tag.
There is little in the way of discernable strategy or skill, the controls are never explained, and they’re unresponsive once you do figure them out. If this game had a head, it should hang it in shame for claiming to be part of the 360 library.

The biggest problem with all of this combat is that while it may sound cool and complicated, it’s boring, unchallenging, and requires absolutely no tactical consideration.

WarTech: Senko no Ronde is a trite piece of airy piffle with nothing meaty to recommend it.

Gio D. gave it a7:
Anyone who picks this game up must realize that this is a port of the arcade version that was only released in Japan. Once again, A PORT OF THE ARCADE VERSION, so anyone thinking that its suppose to have a huge amount of depth are going to be really pissed they purchased this game. Now with that said, everyone who knows EXACTLY what their getting when they buy this game will have a good time with it. In short, its a 2 Player Vs, overhead view, flying mech game. Your objective is to blast each other to bits while dodging your opponents stream of bullets/lasers/missles. And when your really in trouble you can go into your "ultra form" and litterally fill the screen with hundreds of bullets while your opponents tries to dodge them. That pretty much sums up the game. Simple arcade fun.
John J. gave it a3:
I really liked the concept of this game--a shmup take on Virtual On--but as much as I wanted to like this game, it just screams "mediocre first pass." Graphics are below average; the rounders and backgrounds are generic and the bullet patterns look like someone spent five minutes with a particle engine and BulletML. What should be the diamond in the rough, the gameplay, is severely limited by design choices. Rounders are too fast and bullet patterns are too dense to make dodging skill a large factor in a fight, and the other defensive options in this game are equally shallow. There's little control over your own shots, either. After you learn what each of the rounder's attacks are (which doesn't take long), you've pretty much learned all there is to know. The game shows too much of its arcade roots--there's too much guaranteed damage, obviously to make fights shorter for coin-hungry arcade machines. Differences in player skill are negated in favor of luck and button-mashing. While this is good for an arcade game, pretty soon, it just becomes frustrating. The concept has a lot of potential, but SnR doesn't live up to it. This might be a fun casual buy when it drops in price, but otherwise, there's a game in the future that will be much, much better.
our shadows gave it a9:
Flashy versus shmup that will probably appeal to fans of Dreamcast arcade games like Ikaruga, Psychic Force, Bangai-oh, Virtua On, Tech Romancer and so on. Oldschool done from fresh perspective.
no wii gave it a9:
Fantastic. its a versus maniac shooter. takes me back to dreamcast . but with hd widescreen graphics . perfect online play against people overseas. maybe too different for madden/halo fans . haha
