Summary
[Xbox Live Arcade] War World is a fast-paced third-person shooter that combines a unique blend of heart-pumping action and tactical gameplay, introducing an entirely new genre to XLA. War World throws players directly into combat on the battlefield of a war-torn planet. Control one of 10 different Mechanoids, each with special abilities, and wreak havoc throughout the 100-level single-player campaign. Imagine a planet dedicated just to the art of war. This third-person shooter combines both single-player and multiplayer into one action-packed downloadable game. The game features four multiplayer game modes for up to eight players (Capture the Flag, Bomb Assault, Death Match, and Team Death Match) and a huge single-player campaign War World. [Ubisoft]

Gaming Age
Overall War World is a reasonably fun, good looking XBLA title. The biggest problem is mech balance, which hopefully can be fixed in a later patch.

You’ll certainly enjoy the explosive chaos of these Unreal Tournament–style battles; but with only four game modes and limited match options, even blowing your opponents to smithereens can get boring.

War World is a game that almost everyone should pass on. If you are a fan of mech games, options like MechAssault or Chromehounds are a smarter choice than War World.

If you expect to open up your mech (or in this case, War World) to see this decked-out, snazzy, cool game, you are going to be extremely disappointed.

War World has no personality, making it tough to get hooked on the average gameplay.

There's very little overall polish to the title, and there's nothing particularly inspired or compelling about it, either.

Sadly, War World holds your attention about as long as a paperclip and a Post-It note. [Issue#39]
Eurogamer
If you're a fan of online multiplayer slaughter, then it's a safe bet that you've already got plenty of games that do the same thing as War World, and do it a lot better.

This is only the type of game worth playing if you have plenty of friends who also own it. For single player gamers it is a bust and for random pick up multiplayer matches they are not that well done. Pass on it.

It felt incomplete—or, worse, insubstantial, like a test project not fully fleshed out into a compelling game.

It still ends up as one of the prettier 3D offerings on Xbox Live Arcade, despite some framerate annoyances. It's too bad that everything else about the game -- from the mechs and environments to the play modes -- seems so generic and quickly cobbled together.

Speedy shooter much in common with cack like "Outrigger." Get your mech fix elsewhere. [Christmas 2008, p.94]

Ben N. gave it a4:
This games feels incomplete. Very little instruction (and the instructions - control based - that do exist are deeply misleading), gameplsy is flawed and shallow. It's a well presented game as the ingame graphics are fairly inpressive for xbla. Disapointing.
Kenny gave it an8:
Better than some of the major games out there. Its fun and if you like blowing crap up its worth it. Great online ops to.
Khristian R. gave it an8:
I first saw this on the New arrivals and thought, whats this. The minute I put it on, I was impressed. The detail easily rivals some of the Xbox 360 main standard games set, even surpasses some of them in certain areas. Basically you choose a robot and go to fight. There's a choice of 10, whether you opt for speed, weaponry, armour or a huge but slow robot depends on your likes. The single player campaign has 100 missions. a hell of a lot, it feels like an old arcade game where you had waves of enemies, only for the breaks between missions. Each robot has different weapons so its up to you to choose. Also are the multiplayer modes, they really are very very good. An 8 player online match really adds to the fun. It feels in certain areas an update of Armored Core and Future Cop LAPD for the next generation and thats a good thing. It could have benefited with a split screen option, maybe they'll put this as an update. For £6.80 its a bargain and I hope Third Wave Games get a lot of recognition and make more games of this quality. Download it you won't be disapointed.
