As it is, it’s a fascinating combination of different gameplay elements, and it works surprisingly well. Anyone who likes swordfighting, the freedom of an open-world, and the opportunity to shape a story would be well-advised to pick it up.

Way of the Samurai 3 suffers some of the same problems as it's predecessors, and ultimately is a niche game that the general market won't enjoy. For those that do decide to take the plunge, however, you'll find a deeply rewarding story based experience.

Way of the Samurai 3 is built upon a solid idea, but the actual implementation isn't carried out nearly as far as it could be. With limited areas to explore, some mediocre combat mechanics and a hit-or-miss impact from your actions, it's hard to recommend it without pause.

Despite the awful visuals and crummy combat camera, watching the world react to your different play styles makes this short story a satisfying feudal tale that's worth seeing through. [Dec 2009, p.80]
ZTGameDomain
Way of the Samurai 3 is a great idea that is just lost in the past. The developers really had an opportunity to fully realize the potential of the game with the new hardware and failed.

Overall, this is quite the forgettable game. Morrowind on the original Xbox had better graphics, and Two Worlds had a better story. The branching dialogue tree does redeem it somewhat, and if you are a fan of the series then it might be worth picking up at a discount somewhere.
