Summary
World Series of Poker: Tournament of Champions takes a story-based approach putting players on the Pro Circuit as a new pro and protégé of Chris "Jesus" Ferguson. Players test their skills at the premier Circuit Events in hopes of qualifying for the winner-take-all, invitation-only Tournament of Champions at the Rio Resort in Las Vegas. Along the way, they face-off against more top pros than ever before, including Joseph Hachem, the 2006 World Series of Poker Main Event Champion and Jennifer Tilly, the Academy Award nominated actress and World Series of Poker bracelet holder, among others in hopes of bringing home the Tournament of Champions trophy. Good varied tournaments, and its fun to see the pros in the game.

The AI players choose to push hard with some strange hands that’ll keep you off-balance, but there’s lots to do in the single-player game, and all that fun playing others in multiplayer.
It has a great single-player game to partner with the online experience. Plus, the Digimask technology is really showcased in this title, making it a must for Xbox Live Vision camera owners.

But these hiccups are easily overlooked--with high replay value and strong presentation, Tournament of Champions is a fine bet at $40. [Holiday 2006, p.87]
PGNx Media
Undoubtedly better than "Texas Hold ‘Em," the Xbox 360’s only other poker game.

I rather enjoyed my time with this game. It falls short in some areas, namely the less the impressive graphics and the lame sound, but for poker it’s the gameplay that counts. Overall WSOP presents some great challenge, and pile of different game modes and a great multiplayer option via Xbox Live.

Its AI is generally very solid, the presentation is all-around great (even if the animations don't match the bet amount in any way), and it's set up in an easy to play manner.

Single player's alright then, is the conclusion we've come to. But this is a game that was either going to live and die on its Live play, and while it is better than the slightly buggy Arcade title Texas Hold 'Em, it's not quite the definitive poker game we'd have asked for.

While poker doesn't give a great deal of room for manoeuvre, there's a lot of meat here for fans to chomp through. It's just a shame the marketplace version steals its thunder. [Issue # 16, p.96]
ZTGameDomain
WSoP: ToC is certainly a step in the right direction for poker games, and with some tweaks to the AI system and improved visuals it could easily stay on top of the genre for years to come.

The game's not a head-turner in the way of graphics and sound, and the AI can be a pain at times with some odd calls, but the Xbox Live Camera and multiplayer options still make this a game of poker worth ante-ing up to, especially if you're a poker enthusiast.

A full-featured online mode and excellent variety of computer opponents.

With only a barebones competitor you would think that World Series of Poker: Tournament of Champions would run the table with Xbox Live's Texas Hold 'Em. Sadly this isn't the case.

An average entry in the poker genre, there isn't anything new or groundbreaking here, some decent challenges sure, but I was left wanting more.

It’s great that the developers were able to secure the all-star poker talent they did, but for the most part they squander the opportunity.
This year's game does put a greater emphasis on its included pro players, and the online multiplayer is certainly a draw, but the offline play is still a bit mundane, thanks to off-kilter artificial intelligence and lackluster presentation.

Until they can get the A.I. to act a little more realistic like the pros that are in the game it will never have that real feel in single player mode. But if you need your fix before your buddies come over, this is your game!
Read Full Review >Sydney Morning Herald
It's a solid poker package, but with plenty of low-cost competitors on the market, Tournament of Champions struggles to offer enough new features to warrant its price tag.

The Vision Camera Game Face technology is well-implemented. [Christmas 2006, p.106]
360 Gamer Magazine UK
A frustratingly straightforward game to rate, courtesy of the fact that it sells for at least twice the price it should. [Issue 20, p.64]

Millsy gave it a3:
If you dislike terrible graphics, slow gameplay and annoying voice acting, do yourself a favour and buy a pack of cards and get your friends over. Ok, the less extreme option would be to download the xbox live texas Hold 'Em. It takes an exciting card game and dresses it up in a 3d environment... that would be ok, except for the 3D masking is pretty poor (your face will scan in nicely, but you'll have to live with looking like your head is hanging off by it's neck) you'll find the players constantly sneezing, YES SNEEZING! Why on earth did they put this in? Absolutely awful. It does have a variety of scenarios and tutorials that will give a beginner player a leg-up into playing a tournament, but the games go by so slowliy that I just went back to playing the xbox live version.. I'll give it 3 points as it does have a bit of depth, but it's ruined by shoddy presentation and sluggish gameplay.

Come on its poker what else were you looking for? better felt? better dealers please its poker the only downside is the loading but hey you dont wait after that and again its poker!!
Cynthia T. gave it a10:
I never expected so much from a $29.95 game. The Poker Tools are great, and Lon and Norman make it easy to feel you're really at the WSOP.
Travis gave it a0:
This is the one of the worst games I have played...Glad I rented and didn't buy....Dont waste your time, so slow and very boring. Plus after betting onlie with real money this game is a joke
Phil S. gave it a10:
The best poker game EVER! So cool to put your face into the game using the digimask camera. Fantastic.
Chronic L. gave it a10:
This game is very intersting, the ai is really fun to play against even on the lower difficulty. The online play can be slow but fun with the videos, and voice chat.
Nicholas H. gave it a10:
This game is the best game on the market! It has the thrill of the poker room and it feels and looks like you are really in one. The things that make this game better than any other poker game are the gameplay, hand results, and graphics. If you arfe a poker fan, this game os a must have!
