GameZone
The setting for a really interesting adventure is present and the hero has a really nifty aquatic gift, but the end result is disastrous thanks to poor execution and a weak story with no real payoff.

It totally lacks imagination or polish. Toss this one back. [Nov 2003, p.102]
Maxim Online
Theres just no way to make Aquaman more exciting than beached jellyfish. Its time to let the scaly superhero sleep with the fishes already.
Xbox Nation Magazine
A subpar effort marred by weak graphics and terribly repetitive gameplay. [Oct/Nov 2003, p.87]
GameCritics
It's a bad game that needs to be reviewed so other gamers out there can avoid being sucked into the whirlpool of uninspired gameplay, bland graphics, and generalized mediocrity that colors the entirety of the title.

The gameplay is old and unoriginal, the graphics are decent, the sound is horrible and the game itself is a real waste.

Aquaman is to underwater action what the man of steel is to airborne antics - crappy - and on Xbox nonetheless. [Oct 2003, p.73]
GameSpot
Even the most hard-core Aquaman devotees will likely find little use for this short, shallow, problematic ramshackle game.

A pathetic example of rushed development, and no one should be forced to witness the results. Sadly enough, Aquamans first shot at videogame stardom would have been more appropriate on another console five years ago.

I'd say it was as horrible as the N64 "Superman" atrocity, but since Aquaman has always been a lame character, having a crappy game is at least conceptually sound, given the subject matter. [Oct 2003, p.139]
G4 TV
If you like boring, repetitive, badly done combat, then run, don't walk, to the store and pick this bomb up.

If you see this game on a store shelf, swim, dont dog paddle, as fast as you can in the opposite direction.

The graphics blow, the control is as responsive as Anna Nicole Smith's husband, the animation is an insult to those 60's Hulk cartoons with the retarded theme song.

Yeah, seriously, it sux on every conceivable level. And 2 the guy that said it would sound gurgly if they talked in "real life", try telling that 2 the all-too-real mayor of Atlantis, who actually speaks fluent russian WHILE maintaining an underwater city's delicate economy! Zing!

To Faunus S.... Hook me up with your connections, cause you must be smoking the best crack on the market. This game sucks harder than my ultra shop-vac...

I have heard too many critics bash this game. True, it does seemed rushed and lacks a lot of quality...but I feel the gameplay and graphics are still great. Not very many games come out where you can fight and swim entirely underwater. Critics say that the game lacks voices or more sounds during the underwater fights, but lets think for a moment using common sense....how could any of the characters really talk underwater? It would be nothing but ridiculous gurgles of water and bubbling. More screams would have been nice, but not necessary...we don't need to make the characters (good or bad) act like girly wimps when they get hit. I was dissapointed with the fact that the controls could not be changed from the inverted versions. I'm not use to controling a character using pilot controls, so it made the submarine levels tougher. The comic book scenes could have been better. The same pictures of faces over and over was very dissapointing and boring. And a much broader soundtrack would have been better as well, instead of the same two songs over and over again. Being able to unlock and play as the classic Aquaman was worth it. This is a unique game, which could have been done better...but I feel is still good and hold it's own compared to other games I have seen and played.
