Summary

In this role-playing adventure game from Lionhead Studios, every action determines a character's skills, appearance and morality. A character's life story is created from childhood through adulthood and on to old age. One can grow from an inexperienced child into the most powerful being in the world, spoken of by all and immortalized in legend. As additional story and side quests await, so too does the path of righteousness, as well as the life of evil. With every choice, a character transforms into a reflection of his actions and decisions. Age leaves characters wizened and battle leaves characters scarred in the world of Fable: The Lost Chapters. The Lost Chapters looks as good as the original game, which still can hold its own against any other game released on Microsoft's game system.

Don’t expect this game to be different from everything you’ve ever played before, but you can bet that Peter Molyneux’s vision has laid a few blueprints that will contribute much to the future of gaming.

The weight of the game increases quite a bit with the addition of The Lost Chapters so fans who were deterred from a purchase when the first game was released now should have all the reason they need to go pick up a copy.

I was once obsessed with the idea of Fable. Now that a new version of it has been released and still hasn’t delivered on the promises of Peter Molyneux, it’s a tad disappointing.

Fable is still one of the defining role-playing adventures of this generation. And even more so if you go evil. [Jan 2006, p.150]

Essentially a great expansion pack that adds some cool and funny new content to what is already a top-tier RPG. The new content is basically window dressing – albeit excellent window dressing.

Fable is an incredibly fun RPG that wooed us when it first hit the shelves and should attract countless others with this update.

While the main game can take about 15 hours at most to beat, completing all of the additional side-quests may take you up to three times as long.

While Fable veterans will likely be able to speed through the original content to get to the new stuff with a weekend rental, newcomers should definitely buy it.

For those who only played as one alignment, this is an excellent chance to play as the opposite. But for anyone who invested a great deal of time with the original, there isn’t enough new content to warrant picking up.

It's great fun to build your own good or evil hero, and with the Lost Chapters content, there are easily 20-plus hours of fun to be mined out of it. [Jan 2006, p.58]

The story is tightly linear, so it's hard to make your character's tale your own.

Game Over Online

For the twenty dollar price tag, Fable is worth it if your expectations are realistic and you understand what your dollars are buying: a typical action RPG that plays like Zelda and looks and sounds quite beautiful, but is not the groundbreaking change in the way role-playing games are done as its creator once promised.

It’s still the same game it always was...for better or worse...and the core experience- the mechanics, the visuals, the sound, the ego- remain entirely unchanged. Make no mistake: this is just Fable, with a fancy subtitle and some new content.

This updated version of Fable is better than the original, since it extends the game's main quest, but the world of Albion isn't necessarily worth revisiting if you've been there already.

Josh P. gave it a9:
Highly enjoyable fictional game which is easy to play and is fun.

Jaymez gave it a10:
Looks very good, just bought it so far it has a good quality of adventure and excitment. controls are Ok but could be better.

Jonathan G. gave it a10:
I am not a big fan of RPGs but this a rarity. Fable is a masterpiece. I love the fact that this game gives you a choice at almost every point in the game. The Freedom! Its only week point are its annoying loading times.

David G. gave it a10:
After playing the same games over and over that lay on my shelf, I realized that, well, I had to get a new game. After much thought the game ended up being Fable: The Lost Chapters. I had looked Fable up and it seemed like it would deliver, so I went ahead and bought The Lost Chapters knowing extra content couldn't hurt. Now I'll admit, it took me perhaps an hour before I actually really got into the game, but once I did, wow. Just wow. It completely shocked me. The game is just phenomenal in the aspect that it delivers something that I believe has declined over the past years in games, and that is simply a little thing called 'fun'. But on top of that the game also features some beautiful graphics accompanied with crisp, right-on-the-spot sound. Now I may not know a whole lot on all the promises that were made on behalf of The Lost Chapters or even Fable in general, but I must say this. With all I've been hearing, I gathered that Fable was pinned up against Morrowind, and while I truly love Morrowind (in my opinion it was better than Oblivion), I must say that with Fable, you're put right into all of the fun and action straight away while with Morrowind it takes some time and that is why many gamers going into Morrowind expecting a huge blast right away and are impatient might be turned off by the some-what slow start. No offense to Morrowind at all, but that is my opinion. Anyways I would recommend this game fully to any gamer just looking to get away and be immersed in a world much more exciting than ours. I even recommend this to the Fable veterans who never got around to buying The Lost Chapters thinking a little extra content wouldn't be worth the money, but trust me, it is. The way I see it is: you're getting to play through the original Fable which is great with a side dish of extra quests, more areas to explore, more armour and some new spells, more monsters to kill, and more weapons to kill them with. All in all I haven't picked up a game recently that has fully immersed me into the world that the game was offering until now. That game is called Fable: The Lost Chapters.

IamNlCK gave it an8:
Good RPG. Even though we were lied to in the review magazines about all the things we were going to get to do in this game, it still has a lot of innovative features and a great story. I can't wait to see Fable 2 on 360.

Loginsvarios gave it an8:
For a RPG: 7 (isn't too huge than Morrowind in all things) For an Action Adventure: 8 (a beautifull game & a legend) .

Devin M. gave it a10:
Incontrovertibly Fable among the best RPG's this generation. I have both KOTAR's, and Jade Empire an Fable ranks respectably at number two. KOTOR 1 takes the title and Fable is a very close second.
