Summary

The first video game based on the hugely popular Family Guy TV show, the Family Guy game will feature the same outrageous humor all the fans know and love. Play through three stories that intersect in typical Family Guy fashion. Play as the loveable Peter, the diabolical Stewie and the charismatic Brian. Visit familiar locations around Quahog and interact with many beloved characters from the show. Funny and unique combination of combat, stealth and puzzle-solving gameplay. Take part in the jokes, parodies and sarcasm as though you were part of the show. [2K games]

1UP

What's most impressive is the way a lot of humor is injected into the actual gameplay.

What other video game could provide a "Sexy Party" mini-event, an oversexed neighbor finding joy from a laser, or the almighty Peter Griffin pummeling all comers, including women and children?

Cheat Code Central

A fun game and is well worth playing through. Unfortunately, you can play through the game in less than eight hours. While brief, most of the game plays fairly well and the quirky characters and jokes will have you laughing out loud at times.

WHAM! Gaming

The game has its moments, but in the end it feels like watching a second-rate episode.

GameSpot

Though it gets the show's style of humor down pat, Family Guy is derailed by frustrating and uninteresting gameplay.

It’s disappointing to see such a popular license be used in such a generic game. There’s nothing here that makes the game worth owning, with the voice work sadly being the game’s most impressive feature.

Digital Entertainment News

Family Guy feels divorced from the quality of its TV show inspiration; although funny, the game play is shallow and poorly realized. Next!

Times Online

Though voiced and scripted by the people behind the TV show, the game is lightweight, and its quirky navigation and control issues make it one for serious fans only.

G4 TV

It's no sexy party in the gameplay department, but it's no smoked meat log, either.

Official Xbox Magazine UK

As a game Family Guy is average at best. If you've never seen the cartoon, you won't get it. If you love the show then your patience will be tried by the mediocre gameplay. Either way, be prepared to have your willpower tested. [Jan 2007, p.124]

Gamers' Temple

I’ll give the Stewie segments a 70, the Peter segments a 60, and the Brian stealth missions a 50. Averaged out the game would get a generous 60, but I’ll give it a one point demerit for the lameness of the mini-games.

Game Informer

The game, however, is a complete disaster, and is just barely playable. The content is definitely worth seeing, but you’ll have to trudge through gaming hell to see it.

Game Chronicles

The game might look great, but the gameplay is seriously lacking. Five years ago, Family Guy might have made a wave in the gaming world; today it makes hardly a ripple.

Lots of people will buy this because it is the Family Guy game. Lots of people will be disappointed. Some won't be, but these are the people who bought the Knight Rider game and then went out and bought the sequel. Don't be one of those people.

Game Revolution

I already suffered through the X-Men game this summer, so I figured Family Guy comedy would give the formula a much-needed lift. Clearly I’ve been betrayed, suckered into the same damn thing, and now I’m just frustrated. Family Guy has come very far in reproducing the TV experience, but doesn’t get the same ratings.

It's repetitive, boring and even frustrating way more often than it should be.

Exactly what I expected it to be -- a perfectly mediocre game with a few good jokes and not a whole lot of gameplay.

Games Radar

With such a drastic difference in features and entertainment value between Stewie and the rest of his kin, one wonders why he didn't just get his own game. As it stands, you'll have to play through some pretty irritating nonsense just to get to the good stuff, and it's just not worth the effort.

Official Xbox Magazine

Here's the problem with splitting up a game into three distinct parts: if two of them suck, the third doesn't stand a chance, even with a cult hit TV-show license to lend a hand. [Jan. 2007, p.76]

The Onion (A.V. Club)

Most of the action is aggravating, but Brian's stealth missions are intolerable. In several of his levels, you have to steer him away from trees, or he'll lose control and make you wait while he takes a whiz.

What Our Users Said

Chris N. gave it a1:
I choose a one because I played it at my friend's house and I found it to be quite boring. It's boring because it doesn't have a lot of choices and that's my review.

Alex T. gave it a7:
7.5 is what I think actually. My friend gave it to me for my birthday, as we're both huge fans of the show, I didnt blow 30 bucks on it. Stewie's levels are decent fun, Brian's levels are terrible but can be good(the first newstation level was actually prettty good.) Peters are actually not too shabby. Thing is, pretty much every character made an appearance, from the evil monkey (!!!) to Helen Keller, EVERYBODY. The game is incredibly funny. Hardcore fans, buy. Normal fans, rent. Everyone else, no. Just no. P.S yes, you can fight as Peter in his prostitute outfit and as Rufus Griffin. But there are no new abilities in those outfits.

Eli G. gave it a1:
Flat out worst game I've played in 06. I rented this game in the hopes it could at least have good humor but I was so wrong. The gameplay is god awful and worst of all the game doesn't even make you laugh. THe jokes are literally recycled from previous episodes and thrown in to the game. Family Guy the game has no positive qualities and I would be hard pressed to find something that sucked more than this game.

Blue Falcon gave it a6:
It's not nearly as bad as the reviews would suggest. I liken it to Simpsons Hit n Run, except with better gags. Any Family Guy fan will enjoy playing through. It's probably more of a rental than a purchase though since there's not really much of a reason to replay it.
