Deeko
I expected crap and was blessed with greatness. In my opinion, this is what "Dead or Alive Xtreme Beach Volleyball" SHOULD have been.

Presentation wise, the wide range of characters and vast courts look great and feature a high level of detail. Animation can be a bit stiff looking, but this is still one of the best-looking volleyball games ever.

Graphically, the Outlaw environment shines in this game. All venues look superb with their unique and some times funny styles.

A thorough, solid, funny and raunchy wild-side take on the beach-movie sport of choice that offers great graphics, lowbrow humor, funny locales/extras, and -- gasp! -- a ton of real, no-kidding volleyball.

It borders on bad taste makes fun and is meant to entertain while having a solid sports game in the mix. The game accomplishes this in every way. [Online Score = 100]
Armchair Empire
Outlaw Volleyball manages to be the only "pure" beach volleyball game on the Xbox.

If you bought "DOA Beach Volleyball," do yourself a favor and redeem yourself by exchanging it for Outlaw Volleyball. For the rest of you out there that consider yourselves sports fans, ad this one to your collection for a few laughs and some fierce competitive spirit with lots of trash talking good fun.

The game is never too vulgar to be offensive or distracting since the volleyball matches are downright addictive and nicely done.

Controls aside, however, Outlaw Volleyball is a worthy improvement to the Outlaw series, and does an admirable job of presenting the sport of Volleyball in a light, adult-focused way.

The gameplay, graphics, flexibility of options and entertainment factor make this the best volleyball game to date, hands down.

There are some repetitive elements, which can be ignored, but the only thing that might keep this game from greatness is that the game engine requires little advanced skill.

"DOA Xtreme" was a day at the beach, whereas Outlaw Volleyball is actually about bumpin', settin', and spiking. [Sept 2003, p.120]

A solid game with tons of depth and the best volleyball game ever made. [Sept 2003, p.80]
Game Chronicles
The single-player game is a bit daunting, but the multiplayer modes more than compensate for any shortcomings and the presentation is second to none.

This one has the looks, raunch, and laughs, but it also packs a solid volleyball engine. It's what "Dead or Alive Xtreme Beach Volleyball" should have been.

A pretty solid arcade volleyball experience with a plethora of fun characters and humor geared towards the male adolescent in us all. But once the humor gets old, turning it all off reveals that underneath it all is a pretty solid gaming experience.

What's surprising about Outlaw Volleyball is that it plays as well as it looks, like "NBA Jam" on the beach... With its sexual references, tan lines, and gyrating asses, Outlaw Volleyball makes "DOA" looks like McDonald's Playland. [Sept 2003, p.71]
IGN
It doesn't have the same aesthetic value as Tecmo's "DOAX Beach Volleyball" but OV might be the most functional volleyball title out there on any system.

Aside from a few camera issues, Outlaw Volleyball plays incredibly well. Unlike "DOAX" where it was all about timing, Outlaw Volleyball relies on position and aiming as well. [June 2003, p.71]
GamingTrend
A fun game, but it just seems too repetitive for me. It is certainly a better volleyball game than "DOA: XVB," but the latter was far better in the aesthetic areas of the game.

You are restricted to only the ability to connect two Xboxes! This means that the only way to play four players over Live! is to have two people at each location. Talk about disappointing.
GameSpy
An excellent virtual-T&A delivery system, the best simulation of v-ball on the Xbox, and a guilty pleasure that kept me playing for much longer than it should.

Look past the low-brow trappings, and you'll find a kick-ass competition that's easy playing for parties yet complex enough to warrant practice. [Sept 2003, p.132]
Game Revolution
Compared to the other recent volleyball games, Outlaw Volleyball focuses more on traditional gameplay, leading to probably the best of the bunch.

If you strip away the skimpy thongs, gyrating bodies, and crude one-liners, you are left with probably the best playing game of volleyball on the market.

One for the novice, or those more interested in larger than life gaming than the real sport.

Unlike many of the swimsuits featured in the game, theres some breathing room for further development, but Hypnotix has once again surprised audiences by proving Outlaw Golf was neither beginners luck nor a fluke. The Outlaw series is here to stay.

This game is obviously targeted to male adolescents, so the T&A and obnoxious commentary may turn off other potential consumers. But if you take Outlaw Volleyball for what it is, it will provide many hours of enjoyable action.

But behind the gimmicks Outlaw is a simplistic sports game that falls to pieces like a loose string bikini. [July 2003, p.34]
Xbox Nation Magazine
Despite its obvious beautifully ugly characters and detailed courts, this Volleyball barely clears the net. [Oct/Nov 2003, p.99]
games(TM)
One of the most frustrating things about OV is the fact that there's very little feeling of control. But what seems at first to be a truly pathetic attempt at a sports game does take shape (of sorts) once you put some time into learning exactly how it plays. [Nov 2003, p.125]
NTSC-uk
Despite the more comprehensive set of drawn out challenges, it doesn't have the long-term appeal and playability of that title, or the "charm" of "DOAXBV's" well-established character roster.

Uter gave it a 9:
The commentary starts repeating itself after about 5 minutes. The graphics during gameplay can't compare to DOAXBV. But this still may be the best volleyball game ever. It's awesome to see some gameplay depth in a volleyball game. The humour here is also great.
Pat M. gave it a 10:
boobs! boobs! boobs!
Shawn B. gave it a 10:
This game is awesome, the online play is great not alot of people on it yet but good quality. It might be hard in the begginning but once you do the drills a play for a while you get good fast.
T. Burglar gave it a 10:
This game is hard but, MUCH FUN!
Dave (dTox) M. gave it a 10:
The most adictive and fun game I own. LIVE is a blast and will give longevity above and beyond the already deep offline gameplay. Add custom soundtracks, downloadable content and the ability to fight with your opponent and you have a 'AAA' Xbox title.
Angelus gave it a 10:
This game has it all volleyball (that is way better than DOA's), Fighting, Half naked women, Crude humor, Wide variety of unusual characters, Custom soundtracks, and Online playability. Not only is this the best volleyball game out there, its one of the better games to come out on the Box in quite some time.
