Summary
In a complex world filled with excess and greed, players can take the role of Tony Montana, one of the most ruthless gangsters ever depicted on film. Highly acclaimed screenwriter, David McKenna, has written an original event-driven storyline for the interactive game that leads the player through a sordid underworld. The Scarface video game creates a gameplay environment that authentically recreates the historical time period of the film, touching on politics, news items and events of the day. Players travel through the steamy, often violent streets of Miami, the irie islands of the Florida Keys, the Bahamas and various other locales and interact with a world full of seedy and dangerous characters to procure information, negotiate business deals, smuggle contraband and avoid rivals and DEA on a mission to rebuild their fallen empire. With all that is found through out Scarface: The World is Yours, there is a huge amount of things to do and more action than you can shake a stick at.

The game manages to almost perfectly capture the feeling of Scarface, and manages to improve on almost every aspect of GTA in the process.

It's over the top, pumped full of action, and Tony isn't shy about dropping a few F*** bombs.

I am truly amazed at the range of scores Scarface: The World is Yours has been getting. I’m guessing the low scores are coming from people who are either rushing through the game or have no prior knowledge of Tony Montana and the movie that inspired the game.

Radical Entertainment did a wonderful job not only keeping Scarface close to the source material, but also creating a sequel to a movie that was never going to see a sequel.

It does a whole lot to fix many of the problems with other games in the genre, and it does an absolutely fantastic job of bring the world of Scarface to gamers.

The open-ended gameplay is solid from start to finish, the production values are top notch for a current generation title, and the game just oozes charisma. You don’t even have to be a fan of the Scarface film to enjoy Scarface the video game.

A brutal, bullish and ballsy game that manages to match the film's punch. [Dec 2006, p.86]
Digital Entertainment News
A worthy sequel. You get what is advertised - more of Tony Montana. If you want open ended crime gaming, get another game. This is Tony Montana you're dealing with here.

The control scheme is solid and the balls system is an innovative way of rewarding risky maneuvers.

It’s every bit as profane, violent, and over-the-top as the movie, and delivers not only the gunplay you’re expecting, but as much depth as almost any other game in the genre. Like the film that inspired it, it’s sometimes a bit clunky, but makes up for it in bravado and style.

Although it is formulaic at times and some of the set missions such as protecting a boat with a helicopter gunship while it catches sharks for a restaurant are a bit cheesy, the challenge of making more money, spending it and gaining greater power are as addictive as the white substance that makes its way up Tony's nose.

It excels where it counts in the gunfights and driving sequences and has buckets of style.

The game shines in its attention to details: The licensed music from bands like Blondie and AC/DC sets the right tone, and the game's difficulty and pacing will appeal to both hardcore and casual players.

Sounds good, looks good, takes about 40 – 50 hours from start to finish (plus more to complete the game 100%), it’s filled with action, and is a good time for those that like being a criminal in a virtual sandbox.

So while it doesn’t break new ground, Scarface: The World Is Yours is one of the best sandbox crime games for the current generation consoles. It's a slick, well-executed and gritty title that’ll keep you busy for over 20 hours.

From the story, to the combat situations, to the amazing cast, you’ll be hard-pressed to find another title that does a movie license (an extremely heralded movie) so much justice.

A ridiculously violent, unbelievably profane game that lets you glorify yourself with virtual millions of dollars in hard-earned drug money, fast cars, boats, underlings, women and copious amounts of blood. It's a good feeling.

As in the film, every other word is a four-letter one, and although the graphics can be a little choppy, the game is at least engrossing, with levels short enough to demand that they be replayed.

There are some questionable gameplay choices and it can be confusing at times, but the sharp script, solid voice acting, and uncanny atmosphere show an appreciation for the source material like few movie games do.

A fantastic re-creation of the spirit of "Scarface," and a brilliantly in-depth urban game. A bit repetitive at times. [Nov 2006, p.60]

Plenty of depth, great sound and visuals, copious amounts of unnecessary swearing, oodles of violence and an awesome central character in Tony Montana - it's not quite GTA IV but if you can't wait until next October then you should definitely say hello to this little friend!

Scarface the game is not a classic befitting of the film, but it’s an edgy, uncompromising, sometimes humorous and overall positive offering, which makes the blatant cadging from a superior game series just a bit more forgivable.

From the shoot-out at the beginning of the game to final confrontation with Sosa, this game does not disappoint on action. You may find the side missions some what boring, but selling cocaine and cussing out random people has never been more fun.

Fans of the ultimate guy movie that is Scarface should really enjoy this game, but it doesn’t add much to the crowded open-world crime game.

Although it's an entertaining and deep game in its own right, a feeling of Grand Theft Auto deja-vu dogs Scarface: The World Is Yours at every turn. [Nov. 2006, p.94]

They nailed Tony Montana’s voice and attitude and packed a banana boat’s worth of blood and violence into hours and hours of open, GTA-style gameplay.

Like the film, Scarface is brutal and often ridiculously over-the-top. It uses the GTA template effectively but may feel too familiar for Vice City veterans.

Scarface is certainly several notches above the derivative insult we expected it would be, and those who can bear to wait another year for the next GTA will be well served by its faithfulness to the popular formula. Groundbreaking it isn't, but fun it is.

It can feel like all work and no play, but it’s work that’s professionally rendered, adding some solid detail and feedback to the traditional GTA-style framework. [Dec 2006, p.84]

Once you get over the whole rewriting-the-end-of-the-movie thing, Scarface: The World Is Yours is a competent but usually uninteresting action game.

"GTA" cribbed from Scarface and Scarface returns the favor, except Scarface has better controls on-foot, in-car, and in-boat. [Nov. 2006, p.122]
GameCritics
Despite the huge amount of money obviously spent licensing and producing Scarface, in the end, it's nothing more than an acceptable title. Better written and designed than most, but too short and shallow to stand apart from the crowd.

Worth a tour if you really loved the movie, but maybe less so if you've already played the hell out of Vice City. We can't really blame Scarface for the familiarity of the setting, but the fact remains that we've been here before.

The drug dealing aspect is really the game's only defining feature, and with the rest of the game being merely competent in all areas, the Scarface licence is left to do all the hard work.

The only thing I didn't like was the chainsaw melee engine. On one mission, you're forced to use the chainsaw in a revenge situation and the control is just difficult to get used to. The range is very short as it should be, but you can't move quickly while sawing so if you accidentally start sawing too far away you really get messed up.

Michael R. gave it a6:
Way overrated you do the same thing over and over throughout the game Don't get caught up in the graphics. You just run around and take down 40 gangs and launder money and add things to your mansion and its game over.
Vladislav N. gave it a10:
Scarface is my favourite film and the game is sick!Better than GTA !
Bob M. gave it an8:
If your obsessed with Scarface as so many are, you will love this game... not the best driving controls but the cut-scenes look amazing for reg. xbox. Great storyline, great graphics, controls could be a little better, great title!!
A C gave it a10:
The game is way better than I thought it would be. I've spent nearly three whole days playing it now. I've been a huge fan of GTA but Scarface has something special that GTA simply doesnt have and that is a REAL character. Tony Montana is done really well, the way he moves, the way he sounds, all great. Without Tony this really would be just another GTA a great one at that, but with Tony it really beats GTA hands down. I Can't recommend this game strongly enough to all fans of the movie and to fans of open world type game. You won't be dissapointed!
J B gave it a10:
Although not perfect (no jumping) its the best game ever made in its genre, so i have to give it a 10.
Dylan M. gave it a10:
The fact that the review scores are all over the place makes me think this could be a great game and not for everyone. I've been looking forward to it for a long time, it can't suck nearly as much as OXM seems to think otherwise they would have released it a year ago when it was supposed to come out.
Lauri S. gave it a7:
This game was actually better than I expected, much better than that lame godfather game, this one at least has more than 4 different cars and much less stale enviroment. The substitute guy playing Tony did a pretty good job too.
