Star Wars Battlefront II improves upon the original game's single-player experience with open-ended, mission-based objectives inspired from all six Star Wars films. The compelling storyline spans more than 12 new locations, many from Episode III, including volcanic Mustafar and the space battle above Coruscant. All-new classic movie moments complete the Star Wars Battlefront II experience, as players battle within the interior of the Death Star and visit Princess Leia’s blockade runner, the Tantive IV, as seen at the beginning of Episode IV A New Hope. In addition, at certain key moments within the battles, players can feel the Force as a Jedi. For the first time ever, Star Wars Battlefront II players can engage in space combat and, during the same battle, board enemy ships to attack from within. Starting on foot inside a capital ship, players can enter the spacecraft of their choice and travel into space to dogfight with the rival faction. From there, they can dock within the enemy’s capital ship, overtake the ship’s command posts, man its turrets to disable its shields and destroy it from within! Or, they can simply stay inside their own capital ship and defend it from attacks and enemy fire. The choice is theirs. The stellar online play that marked the original Star Wars Battlefront returns even bigger and better for Star Wars Battlefront II. Players can locate their buddies and track their stats as they battle alongside more players than ever (up to 24 on PS2, 32 on Xbox, 64 on Windows). [LucasArts]

The improved single-player games are worthwhile enough on their own, but if you can find well connected online matches, multiplayer games will keep you addicted for months.

Although the online portion of the game is clearly the best part, the single-player hasn’t been neglected by any means. If you are a Star Wars nut or looking for some hectic online action, go out and buy Star Wars Battlefront II, because it is quite possibly one of the best Star Wars games ever released.

Perhaps only a third party can produce a title that so glorifies a series that revolutionised cinema, because it’s Pandemic and not LucasArts that has created a game that lives up to the vast shadow created by the films.

Better than the original in almost every way, which says a lot for LucasArts' and Pandemic's commitment to their legion of fans. Space battle and playable Jedi are reason enough to run out and buy Star Wars Battlefront II, but 32 player online matches don't hurt either.

A walloping, beautiful example of what Xbox Live can do. It's bigger than the first, it's better than the first, and if there's any justice, it'll be what everyone will be playing come release. Impressive. Most impressive. [Official UK Xbox Magazine]

A hardcore Star Wars fan's dream come true. Decent solo game with playable jedi characters, furious space fights and awesome net play. What else can you ask for? As a PC game Battlefront 2 is a technically lacking hyperactive bunnyhopper. Again. [Dec 2005]

My one complaint is that sprinting requires you to hold in the left thumbstick while pointing in the direction you need to go, which can get a little uncomfortable.

Stuff
The sequel to last year's third-person/real-time strategy game set in Star Wars land once again manages to be the 'Nam of Wars games. In other words, the disc does a heck of job of trying to make you feel like you're really "in the sh.t" on Coruscant.

The notion of hopping into an X-Wing, shooting down a flight of TIE fighters and then boarding an enemy Star Destroyer to disable its shields is one that has been deeply rooted in many a Gen X'ers mind. This is now possible, and while space combat is not as refined or complex as say X-Wing Alliance, it opens up the game beyond ground-based combat.

While the base game remains fairly much the same, the new space battles are a real thrill – it’s just a pity that the hero system that appeared to be so promising really just serves to unbalance the experience.

The acute sense of excitement and precision in combat of the "Halo" games is absent, likewise the intensity of being in a firefight delivered by "Battlefield 2." All the explosions and laser-fire feel a lot like window-dressing, even if the game does have some attractive scenery.

Decidedly mediocre. Being able to play as a Jedi is definitely one of its strongest qualities, but it really doesn't make up for a really lackluster massive battlefield shooter.

Matt gave it a9:
Online play is where the game shines. The solo player mode is simply training. Those without XBOX live should stick to BF1... for those with...this game is simply too fun.

Chris E. gave it a4:
Compared to the first one, this game seemed like a step down. The space battles were fun and interesting (they're the only thing keeping me from rating this lower). The gameplay doesn't seem to flow like the first one and the "improvements" are horrible. I'm ashamed at myself for buying this one.

Style gave it a3:
I was so jacked for this game. Glad I rented it before I bought it. The graphics seem so flat as compared to the first one. The AI is absolutely retarded. This is the most disappointing part. I remember the first game felt like I was in combat, breaking through lines of droids, helping out fellow clones then dying as we charged the turrents. Now I can walk with the flag across the field, stop for coffee, and empty the waste recepticle before any AI knows I'm gone. Completely disappointing, so much that I'm not buying it. Such a bummer.

Chad C. gave it a0:
This is the worst game I have ever played. The space fighting is pretty fun. However, fighting as a character on land is horrible, herky-jerky, and just plain boring. Not to mention you will die 1000 times before completing some missions. You also cannot save any progress at your discretion and have to start nearly impossible levels over when you die. I wish I could go back in time and get my money back and buy any other game instead. A truly horrible and frustrating experience. Those that liek the game are just way too into the Star Wars thing and are blinded by its name.

James R. gave it a10:
I have not yet played BF2 but from what i hear the gameplay kicks *** and sounds alot better than BF1 .The commesials made the game sound interesting to and watching them makes me want the game more and this is a lot comeing from a 12 year old kid.

Chris W. gave it a10:
This game is flawless. It is 100 times better than the first game. The graphics are great and the battle fields are awesome. This game is must if you like starwars at all!

Eric gave it an8:
I thought it wasn't bad but it wasn't as good as the first one, I also didn't like that you had to start out with one type of person.
