Summary
The ultimate Teenage Mutant Ninja Turtle party experience, TMNT: Mutant Melee offers hours of bashing, crashing and trashing fun with more than 20 playable characters, a competitive Adventure mode, a ton of mini games and unlockable content. Gamers can play alone or with up to four friends and take on the role of their favorite Turtle, Casey Jones, April O'Neil, Master Splinter and even the villainous Shredder in one of two different modes - Adventure or Melee. Turtle fans will find a shell full of mini games and extra content in TMNT: Mutant Melee. Gamers can team up with friends to play modes such as King of the Hill, where players defend a circle that appears randomly around a level; Knockout, where the object is to KO as many opponents as possible; and Last Man Standing, where gamers battle it out to see who is the toughest brawler of all. As gamers progress through TMNT: Mutant Melee, they'll be able to unlock background information on the Turtles, character biographies, original TMNT comics, hilarious outtakes and enough artwork and video clips to satisfy even the most rabid Turtles enthusiasts. Worth Playing
In fact, if you have an Xbox and the money for this, I highly recommend using it to purchase "Kung Fu Chaos" instead, which adopts Melee's fighting system, but adds purpose and several gallons of hilarity to the mix... and is cheaper to boot.

If you have to see what it’s about for yourself, rent it before purchasing, and above all else… find a friend.

You can call it sour grapes (for liking the old TMNT, not this new 2005 TMNT cartoon garbage), or you can just call it a very mediocre game.

It lacks the humor and charm of the original show, and even the new one for that matter. It gives you plenty of characters, but no real reason to prefer one to the other.

Kids - and by kids I mean really young kids - may get a kick out of taking control of a turtle, but that’s about it. Slightly older children will find Mutant Melee too boring (it is challenging, however) and repetitive, and adults will find the lack of a technical aspect and responsive controls excruciating.

An incredibly slapdash and barren game that has absolutely nothing to offer you beyond monotonous, almost-broken fighting mechanics, tiny environments, and a bunch of lame unlockables.

The latest game is entitled Teenage Mutant Ninja Turtles: Mutant Melee and like the last two games, threatens to send the Turtles back into hibernation or wherever the hell they went last time.
Xbox Evolved
This brings shame to the name Turtles. Even to the Turtles die hard fans this will just be a stab in your heart.

Not even cel-shaded reptiles can save a game cursed with tissue-thin design, weak AI, and repetitive gameplay. [June 2005, p.78]
Play Magazine
It's hard to find the fun in Mutant Melee, whether playing alone or with friends. [May 2005, p.54]
Gaming Age
What gets under your skin is that most of the combos are unblockable, and once you are caught in string of moves, you must wait until the move set is over before you can block or counter attack. This can be frustrating on both A.I. and human battles.

While the multiplayer options are moderately enjoyable, only the youngest of gamers will find themselves with any longevity.
