Summary
In 2013, the U.S. Army will implement the Integrated Warfighter System (IWS), evolving what we know as the modern soldier. IWS combines advanced weapon systems, satellite communication devices and enhanced survivability into one fully integrated combat system. The IWS program has been developed to meet these new threats head on. Now, it can be tested on the battlefield. Following an insurgence in the heart of Mexico City, the U.S. Army's most elite Special Forces team is deployed to the center of the conflict to regain control of the city. Greatly outnumbered but fully equipped with the IWS, this elite team is the first and last line of defense on the battlefield. They are the "Quiet" professionals. They are the Ghosts. Gain access to the future of military technology. Using a fully integrated combat system with cutting-edge weapons and revolutionary communication systems, gamers embody the soldier of the future. Based on actual U.S. Army research, the Ghosts give gamers a realistic view of how war will be fought in the next decade. Use the revolutionary Cross-Com, a communication device powered by satellite technology. Attached to the soldier's monocle, the Cross-Com provides full situational awareness and command of the battlefield. Command the Ghost squad and remote allied forces and drones, and direct artillery and air strikes. See what the squad sees and receive visual and auditory intel from allied forces and unmanned drones. [Ubisoft]

Play Magazine
With 16 players and 16 guns blazing, the game is violent bliss, and certainly a war demanding to be fought over and over again. [Apr 2006, p.58]
Official Xbox Magazine UK
GRAW is brimming with atmosphere, has brilliant, open levels and challenging AI that will put your shooting skills to the test. [April 2006, p.74]

The lack of a controllable three man team, not being able to choose character classes, unrealistic hit detection, few outdoor sections in the wilds, faster paced game play, health checkpoints (luckily these are removed from hard difficulty) makes GRAW far removed from the original Ghost Recon to the point of almost being an entirely new game.

This Advanced Warfighter tries to follow along the same evolutionary path as the Xbox 360 title, but it can only make half the effort. [May 2006, p.106]
PALGN
There are far better shooters for the Xbox, including previous Ghost Recon games. Save your money. It would be far better spent put towards an Xbox 360.

The “advanced warfighter” concept is a good one, but it is one that is truly fit for the next generation of consoles. Shanghai went fairly sim with Tom Clancy’s Ghost Recon Advanced Warfighter on the Xbox, and it doesn’t appear that the hardware wanted to comply in a way that makes this one a “must have”.

It's almost as though this game was made poorly on purpose so that the superiority of 360 would be felt like a kick to the head with a spiked boot. The message is that Xbox owners now have something to feel ashamed about - their crappy little Xbox.

In reality, what's here is competant, but this version just doesn't stack up to any Xbox Ghost Recon--next-gen or otherwise. [Jun 2006, p.76]
Games Radar
Unfortunately, it's obvious that Ghost Recon Advanced Warfighter was developed as a glimmering next-gen title and subsequently shoe-horned into the power-challenged Xbox. The result is simply too much for the Xbox to handle. It feels stripped down and lacking in too many crucial areas.

If you're envying all the fun your buddies are having with their 360s and Advanced Warfighter, you're better off staying with "Halo 2" and the recent "Far Cry: Instincts" than springing for this -- you'll be in for a disappointment.

The graphics are only OK, even for an Xbox game, and compromises in the gameplay design hamper the experience, making GRAW feel like just another military-themed shooter.

Even if you don’t compare it to the 360 version, the game either comes off of an unbalanced first person shooter or a neutered action-strategy sim.

Perhaps this is part of a sinister marketing ploy by Microsoft to encourage Xbox owners to upgrade to the Xbox 360 by ensuring that Xbox ports suck compared to their hotted up counterparts?

The problem with Advanced Warfighter isn't that it's a lesser beast than the 360 release; that's to be expected. It's that the game fails to stack up against the better recent Xbox shooters like "Far Cry" and "Black."

Jeremy D. gave it a9:
This game is an all around good game. The campaign mode is a bit confusing but the mutiplayer mode is fun and full of different options so I can never be bored.
Dana Q. gave it a10:
Great game on Xbox Live!
Jamie Moore gave it a10:
I really liked the graphics...the story line was good too!
Elijah gave it a1:
For the mere price of 50$ you can pick this worthless shell of a game that is great on the X-box360. That's the key here, GRAW is only good on the 360 on the normal x-box it is simply crap. Bad Graphics, bad gameplay, idiot A.I. and extreme lack of fun along often glitchy controls, and let's not forget that the game lags frequently in single player mode, make this the most dissapointing game i've played this year. Ubisoft have officially left current gen owners behind. Anyone who thinks this game is good has really low standards. If anyone would be willing to lay down fifty bucks for this game then they should use the fifty bucks to get a catscan. Ubisoft should be ashamed of themselves they had been on streak of delivering great game after great game. Everything has to an end and i guess.
Nick G. gave it a3:
this game totally lost the ghost recon look, and gameplay as well. It looks and plays like rainbow six. Plus they got rid of the 3rd person view, and you can't lay down when your playing. Having the future in weapons and gear is great but overall this game sicks. I'm highly disappointed with this game.
Josh gave it a9:
Over all a good game. But there are numerus flaws like the aiming, only one person sqaud and lack of chooing weapons at the beging of each levle.
K pAK gave it a2:
This game is unpolished and rushed to market. The Xbox Live games have hardly any options, poor use of rumble features, only 2 person coop online, poor aiming... and the list goes on and on. I was a huge fan of Ubisoft but not any more... this is not worthy of the name.
