  • Summary: In a remote mountain tribe, the young hunter D'Leh has found his heart's passion: the beautiful Evolet. But when a band of mysterious warlords raid his village and kidnap Evolet, D'Leh leads a small group of hunters to pursue the warlords to the end of the world to save her. As they venture into unknown lands for the first time, the group discovers there are civilizations beyond their own and that humankind's reach is far greater than they ever knew. At each encounter, the group is joined by other tribes who have been attacked by the slave raiders, which turns D'Leh's once-small band into an army. Driven by destiny, the unlikely warriors must battle prehistoric predators while braving the harshest elements. At their heroic journey's end, they uncover a lost civilization and learn their ultimate fate lies in an empire beyond imagination, where great pyramids reach into the skies. Here they will take their stand against a tyrannical god who has brutally enslaved their own. And it is here that D'Leh finally comes to understand that he has been called to save not only Evolet but all of civilization. (Warner Bros.) Expand

  1. Emmerich has no time for poetry or magic, even when the director and his digital wizards (here doing wildly variable work) are trying to dazzle. He’s a taskmaster and a field marshall, not a visionary. But I enjoyed 10,000 B.C. more and more, and more than just about anything Emmerich’s done before.

Too dumb to take seriously, but just silly enough to be sort of fun.

Director Roland Emmerich (Godzilla, Independence Day) knows his money shots: any time he throws some mastodons or giant dodos on the screen for a little beast-battlin’ action, he has our attention. But his lack of skill with actors really shows during the long moments of downtime in-between.

One doesn't expect intelligent scripting or deep characterization from Roland Emmerich, but the film's lack of energy, poor special effects, and monotonous pacing lead to an inescapable conclusion: 10,000 B.C. isn't only brain-dead, it's COMPLETELY dead. It's inert and without a heartbeat.
  5. 33
It's as if all the digital tools of new millennial filmmaking fell into the hands of men who had less storytelling sense than a campfire bard or a cave painter.
  6. Overblown and stupefyingly dull.
  7. 0
The only evolution in question here is that of Emmerich's skills as a director of motion pictures.

I can only agree with Janae, I just cannot understand why this film has received such terrible critic. I admit that the actor's acting abilities could have made it a bit more credible, but what I really enjoyed was how they managed to create a prehistoric world with semi-fictional races based on our own past, and letting them coexist with each other. I think that it was an interesting glimpse into the history of mankind from a new perspective and quite worth watching, not only for hobby historians like me. Expand

Nothing new as storyline goes. It's a love story with wooley mammothes . Add a mystic medicine women to to make a happy ending come true. CG was good the action predictable but still fun to watch. Why an 8 I enjoyed it. Or was it just the food at the movie grill. Expand

Just flat out bad. This decade's attempt at a Beastmaster, only much less fun. It looked good in the trailer (and often the movie really does LOOK good), but the only way I could stay seated the whole time was by dissing it ala MST 3000. There was potential in the concept but oh the horror. If you are feeling very cynical, this is a must watch movie. Expand
