    At this late date, filmmakers who draw inspiration from the Mafia had better have a whole new angle to offer. Otherwise, they'll end up with a movie like 10th & Wolf.

    It isn't exactly a waste of time, but anyone who's seen a mob movie or TV show in the past 30 years has pretty much seen 10th & Wolf.

    At least Ribisi's fake-cojones histrionics are fun. The rest of this "Donnie Brasco" knockoff, with James Marsden as a Gulf War veteran who goes undercover, is a turgid, ketchup-spattered dud.

    Despite the disappointing ending, 10th & Wolf is a good movie, with a great turn from Giovanni Ribisi. Not the most original movie ever made, but worth a watch.… Full Review »

    Not awful, but not terrific, either. The material was cluttered with too many subplots, so the main story ended up being rather thin. There are a lot of familiar mob movie clichés. Lots of poorly researched elements -- the meat butchers are straight out of 1930s in a 1990s movie. Some actors are badly miscast. But the film has some real high moments, too. As one of the reviewers said, however, there are so many excellent mob movies out there, so if you're going to do a mob movie, and it's sort of half-baked, your effort will seem all the less compelling.… Full Review »
