Certainly not for everyone, its humour is awkward and does not leave a lasting impression. Rudd, Love and Chapelle dominate the film's key moments, which are limited, and some quotes will come in use for the odd house party. An interesting twist to conclude, and 100 minutes of prolonged conversation, nicotine intake and lack of anything stable wraps up in something that's alright if you've got nothing else lying around. This movie has a little bit of everything for everyone. It's a period piece for some of us old enough to have lived it. It's a quirky romp through our early relationships and at the very least, it's pretty funny.

While the film comes to a mildly clever conclusion, it feels like a bottle of vintage champagne that never gets to pop its cork at midnight. All that fizz potential wasted. [26 Feb 1999]
  2. This vapid '80 punk party reeks of 200 Cigarettes.
